Ice Cream Cake for my 2nd Birthday
    Ana B.

My experience from beginning to end with Sister Slice was wonderful. Jasmine is so sweet and professional. Her prices are excellent compared to other local bakeries. Her custom cakes are amazing she knows how to bring ideas to life and the outcome is always better than imagined with her touch. Every cake Ive ordered becomes the centerpiece to our parties! And the taste is amazing, my my daughter & I LOVE her Red Velvet. The best experience, i'll be purchasing our cakes and especially my kids cakes here from here on out. Their reactions have been priceless. 10/10 recommend!

The only downside is that the wait can be pretty long, especially during busy hours. One time it was also really smoky inside, not sure if something had burned but, even with that, the food was 100% worth the wait. If you're looking for amazing food and incredible pastries, this spot is definitely worth checking out. Highly recommend!

We were quoted a 10-15 minute wait despite there being multiple open tables everywhere, which already set the tone. The person at the front also seemed like greeting guests was a personal inconvenience. Not exactly the warm welcome you'd expect from a place trying this hard to look aesthetic. To make things worse, several pastries sitting in the front display were visibly burnt. Not "artisan charred" -- just burnt. The pastries we ordered were actually good, which makes the rest of the menu even more disappointing. We tried the soft scramble, pork cheek tartine, truffle tartine, and mushroom fettuccine. Everything looked beautiful but tasted either burnt, bland, or both. Every toast item arrived burnt enough that you could taste it in every bite. Our server came by often to refill waters and check on us, but the service somehow still felt oddly impersonal. Since the restaurant wasn't busy at all, it also made us wonder how attentive the service would be during an actual rush. Honestly, this place feels more focused on looking trendy than serving good food. Stick to the pastries if you go -- it's the only thing worth ordering.

I've driven by this place so many times over the years. I did some research and it's been around…read moresince 1941! And today I finally went in. I was picking up an order of cakes for someone else. The lady helping me was very polite and made sure to tell me at what temperature the cake would be the fluffiest to enjoy. Before I left she asked if she could get me anything and there were so many tasty-looking treats it was hard to decide! I decided to go with the Apple Danish. It was so freaking delicious! They bake everything fresh there. The decor was fun and fit the atmosphere and vibe very well. Come check out Mrs. Backer's Pastry Shop!

I remember driving by Mrs. Backer's Pastry shop when I was a child. (Well, I wasn't driving, I was…read moreriding in the backseat.) I was always mesmerized by the building-it looked like something out of a children's book. I don't recall ever going inside, although I might have. Fast forward many years to when I finally made a visit with my adult son. The place still has the same charm and appeal that it did decades ago-the ornate railing, the over-the-top signage and the catchy window displays. The display cases were full of an assortment of goodies-and we opted to try a peanut butter cookie and a glazed donut-two solid choices that we were both happy with. So why the three star rating? The young lady who was working the register was so unwelcome that we felt awkward just being there. She gave off vibes of being annoyed and interrupted as well as incredibly bored. I would have loved to talk to someone about the history of the business and learn a little about why it's special, but she was barely interested in ringing up the order. Perhaps they can get by on their legacy alone, but with service like that, I'd be concerned if I were the owner.
