After a couple of days of French food we wanted to try something different. Siseng fit the bill given the Pan Asian description. We didn't realize it until we arrived but they are located in the Canal- St. Martin area which is full of restaurants & people picnicking/having their beer/wine and hanging out along the path area next to the canal. We arrived Saturday around 8 pm and they only had high stool seats that faced the wall (no fun) so we ordered a couple of beers for the wait. (About 20 minutes). We ordered the Grimbergen Blonde- large. A Belgian Beer yes but thought 10 Euros was a bit steep. Also ordered a fruity non alcoholic drink (house creation & can't remember name) which was very refreshing. The restaurant is quite cozy and it is community seating. We ordered a couple of appetizers. Croquettes de Crevettes & Spring Rolls. Both very tasty. For main, it was Bao Burgers. beef and fried chicken. Beef (5 spice) was seasoned just right and Chicken was crispy, juicy and not greasy. Also, Bo Bun, with the thin vermicelli Noodles was light and the perfect dish for a hot day. One word: wow! We were frisky impressed by Siseng and our burgers. We got one of the chicken and one of the beef burger and they were both an explosion for flavour in the right quantities. The croquette was tasty but I wish it was accompanied by some kind of dipping sauce. I found the flavors in the bao burger didn't compliment each other. Something was off about it. I really like the concept though, it reminded me of, The Bun Shop in LA. Moving on, the sweet potato fries weren't the best I've had. I'm a big fan of sweet potato fries, and I was just happy these weren't oily. They had a slight crisp but not enough. The dipping sauce for it was okay. There is potential here. I would suggest they add more dipping sauce options, reinvent their five spice burger and add more meat options like pork belly. You can't go wrong with pork belly! Mega awesome address! This is barstool, Asian-American fusion food like you'd find on one of the American coasts yet there's still something delicately Parisian about the place. The menu is delightfully tight and every items sounds delicious, from the bento and bobun to the inventive burgers served on steamed rice-flour buns. After oohing and ahhing and asking the waiter what was best, he replied without any attitude that everything was delicious but the bento was one of his personal faves. So I went for it. And it was fabulous. The chicken was marinated in some teriyaki spice sauces and slow cooked so that the meat was super tender but moist, the steamed broccoli and mushroom medley was great and the rice perfection. At the cash register to pay I ran into an old acquaintance from NYC, a very famous pastry chef who was dining with her husband and they were freaking out about their burgers and even said it was the BEST BURGER they had ever had. Surprised by this cute little spot. Wanting a break from all the French food we had been trying we rushed up here for lunch. The food was delicious, the spot was quaint and the service quick. I really liked the risotto croquettes , it was full of flavor and crispy. We almost ordered a second helping if it wasn't for us all already ordering a side of fries each. The fries needed some more seasoning to them but they were pleasant, sweet potato fries. the burger had an asian seasoning to it, with some oyster sauce maybe which was nice because we weren't expecting that. I came to Siseng on a Wednesday night with two friends at around 8pm. We ended up waiting outside in the cold for almost 45 minutes before enough seats freed up for us. I got the tofu burger and a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was delicious. It is served on the softest bao bun, and the tofu and seaweed was salty and great. It could have used something with a bit of crunch, but otherwise was really good. The fries were fine. I'm not the hugest sweet potato fry fan...I just think regular fries are so good that you never need sweet potatoes. So maybe I'm not the best judge of these, but I think they could be better. They weren't served very hot, and they were just a bit thick and not crispy enough. The sauce they came with though was really amazing (m If they cut the fries a bit smaller, fried a bit longer, and added something a bit crunchy to the veggie burger, then this place would be a solid 5. I ordered the 5 spiced beef bao and black bean noodles which was so flavorful and delicious. I honestly have never tried anything like this expect maybe pork bao sticky buns. The bao bun is so soft and a light, the mixture of spices/sauces that they use to make the burger is pure perfection. This restaurant is a must try to say the least. The noodle dish was also amazing I honestly loved everything on the menu. The location is a little small so it definitely provides an intimate setting but the decor is super hipster and chic. This place is so good, I had to eat here twice on a recent trip to Paris. I had never really understood Asian fusion cuisine but this place definitely hit the nail on the head. I enjoyed the lunch special for €15. It came with burger, sweet potato fries and a homemade drink. The bao bun and 5 Spice Sauce took me back to childhood memories of eating steam bao buns for snacks after school. The veggies on the burger gave it a nice crunch. I savoured every single bite of that burger. The sweet potatoe fries were soft on the inside crispy on the outside. It came with a sesame seed peanutty sauce that was sweet and tangy. I found this place extremely average. My boyfriend and I arrived here around 1 pm on a Saturday and the place was full but luckily we came when guests were leaving. We were seated five minutes later even though there was a queue. All the employees were friendly which is rare in France, especially Paris. I swear it's because they are male and hipster! We ended up getting a seat at the end of the table. I think the majority of seats here are bar style with high chairs. The servers kept on bumping into me. It was annoying even if they apologized every time. We started off with the chicken spring rolls for 7€. I thought they were tiny for the price but the sauce for dipping was great. For the entree, we got the beef BAO burger with sweet potato fries and the bo bun. The BAO burger could have been so much better. The BAO itself didn't have the chewiness baos are known for. The meat also tasted weird which could have been the marinade. There were barely any veggies and onion tempura. The burger also became extremely soggy. I would never order this again. The sweet potato fries were amazing with a peanut sauce for dipping. My bo bun was average and again, the meat was kind of strange. The hot sauce wasn't the typical Sriracha but a chili oil paste which added absolutely no heat whatsoever. Our whole meal came out to be 33€ which is a steal in Paris but I wouldn't come back here. There are much better Asian food places to give a try. They get three stars for the service. read more

Our accommodation host recommended this restaurant to us, and we decided to give it a try. What a wonderful surprise! I got the veggie burger with tofu and veggies, and it was so delicious. It reminded me of the veggie steamed buns I used to get from my favourite Asian markets back in California. The bun is very soft, and the sauce and tofu patty they serve mix well together. Hubs got the fried chicken burger and thought it was really nice. The sweet potato fries are also great - good chunks that are lightly battered and come with a lovely sweet sauce. I was getting tired of all the French food on my recent trip to Paris (don't get me wrong, I absolutely love French food). I purposely walked around the Canal Saint Martin neighborhood in search of any ethnic type restaurant when I found Siseng. It was small, but had a very inviting and hip aura about it so I sat at the bar and perused the menu. I was pleased to see that they had Vietnamese inspired dishes such as the Bo Bun which I ordered. From the very first bite I was in heaven. The dish was full of the familiar Vietnamese flavors that I am used to from back home (Cleveland, OH). It was also really cool to see the bartender or shall I say artist create the fascinating cocktails right before my eyes. There really is a lot of work that goes into making these concoctions. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to order one, but I lived vicariously through others that did. The place was getting pretty busy by the time I left at 8 PM on a Thursday night, so I think it's pretty popular with the locals. It was very flavorful with good quality beef. However, I ended up preferring the chicken burger. It's similar to tonkatsu and they use the same breading to create a delicate crunch.
