Filipino-themed pop-up restaurant. I caught them at Rose Hill Farm in Red Hook, NY. It's got all the favorites: lumpia, pancit, even a brownie topped with an ube glaze. There are rice noodle bowls on offer and I opted for one of those, a vegetarian bowl. Different veggies simmered in a coconut sauce, adorned with a few pickled and some fresh vegetables to add variety and crunch. The flavors are familiar to a Filipino palette but also seem lighter than traditional fare. That's a good thing, in my opinion, because some Filipino food can give a cardiologist a heart attack just thinking about it. If they can bottle the habanero mango sauce, I'd buy it. That's good stuff. By the way, Sira Ulo literally means "broken head." Gotta be a bit crazy to run a restaurant/pop-up these days. read more

The flavors are out of control! I've see them pop up at various spots in the hudson valley with different menus, all incredibly delicious. The couple that runs it is adorable and they work their butts off. Sadly, I ate everything too fast and don't have any pics to share. read more
