The school helps its students discover their own unique talents and supports them in ways not many other schools do. Students at SMUS are constantly being challenged but still always have time to push themselves to try new things. The boarding community is a tight-knit community, where boarders are able to bond with other fellow boarders through weekend activities or house games. One of the best boarding schools in Canada.

I have reported someone who was seriously grabbed by there shirt and was choked, and guess what nothing happened the person who choked them where not called down to the office, I think people would be better of at Selkirk Montessori which starts at kindergarten to grade 9.

This is probably the worst school I've ever attended for a few reasons, but my main issue was the…read moreteachers. While there are some nice teachers here, there are also quite a few who show little empathy for their students and don't know how to manage those who are misbehaving. I was bullied quite often and the teachers (including the nice ones) did very little to help. One teacher didn't even look in my direction while a student pushed me off my stool, yelled at me, then proceeded to push my papers off my desk, and another just told me to sort my life out when I was underperforming during PE without even asking me what was wrong. There was also a lack of priority and research when it came to non-school related events which left me wondering what on earth they were thinking on a few occasions. In short, you're probably better off going to Central Middle School if you live in the Greater Victoria District.

My sixth grader is currently attending FMS during a big transition year. This is the first year…read morethat every single student is issued a laptop. It is the first year the bulk of students homework is completed on the computer as well as most of the educational materials. In addition to these changes, there are also big changes in the faculty including the Principal and Vice Principal. To say that it a complicated year would be an understatement. Add to this the problems with social media and devices in the classrooms, the staff faces many hurdles that most of parents do see or hear of on a daily basis. Through these big change for the educators, staff, parents and especially student, I have been impressed that most things are going as well as they seem to be. I am pleased with the challenge and direction they are providing my child and we are doing our best to figure out the new tech issues right besides them. The school seem to be proactive in being inclusive and respectful. I hope this first semester is indicative of how the future of FMS will be.

Amazing people! The respect I had for them then it's nothing to the ever growing respect and awe…read more that I feel now. My hat's off to all of the SD61 teachers and EAs (Education Assistants). The challenges that these amazing people have and yet are still able to put a smile on their faces and continue their day. They get bitten, scratched, kicked, spat on and this is only the "minor" incidents. As a parent and an EA I too feel frustrated when my child isn't as focused on as I think my princess should be. But sadly I have witnessed how no matter how big hearted and wonderful her teacher is (and she truly is) she is only one person with only one EA who also only has two eyes and two arms. Four arms arms and four eyes may sound like enough for a class especially if you believe that your wonderful child represents the classroom norm. He/ she is not. If your lucky the classroom has 20 children one or two has a designation, but now count the children who have learning disability but either their waiting to be diagnosed or there is no diagnosis because it's not a cognitive disability but a traumatic event in their short life and there are way too many young souls in our school systems where this is true. So if your child comes home with their little snack container not put on properly and it made a mess in their lunch kits, (been there) just remember your child's teacher or EA was probably keeping him/herself from being assaulted or keeping your child or another child safe. Support your public school teachers and EAs who CHOOSE to work with your children in the public schools. They/we are not over paid babysitters/bored housewives.

Oak Harbor Intermediate School has a lovely field open to the public during non-school hours. The…read morefield is grass and has a gravel walking/running path/track around it. The shape of the path is not exactly an oval, more curved rectangular in shape. There are also a few areas open for play/that contain different exercise equipment. I would guess these are used in physical education (P.E.) classes as part of the school's offerings and potentially are available for use in home-schooling physical education curriculums based in the area. In my experience coming here, I have yet to find the field and track in heavy usage on a given visit. Personally, I like less traffic when walking/running a path/track. So, in that sense this is a perfect place to come early in the morning and get some distance in.
