No reviews of Sioux Falls Pheasants (aka Canaries) baseball? Wow. This needs some attention. Sioux Falls Stadium, known at 'The Birdcage', is a fantastic place to watch a baseball game. The stadium opened in 1941 but underwent renovation in 2000. It certainly compares to stadiums for many A-class minor league teams. The Pheasants (known as the Canaries from 1993-2009) play in the American Association, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball, yet is a league of high quality. The stadium holds 4,500 people and tickets are very affordable, especially when compared to the major leagues. Sight lines are great and there are a decent amount of beer and food options. Sioux Falls won the American Association championship in 2008. They play in the North division along with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, Winnipeg Goldeyes and St. Paul Saints. There are 13 teams in the American Association. Pheasants baseball is a superb way to spend some time in Sioux Falls. It's a very friendly environment and is probably the premier sporting event in town. I always make an effort to catch a game when in town during the season.

Gotta Go!! Never been to a hockey game, but I had such a good time I bought a jersey!!!read more

I need to preface this review with a bit of a disclaimer. I have never been a hockey fan. My only…read moreexperience with hockey has been playing floor hockey in high school P.E. and seeing short snippets on TV. I know very little about it and am probably not a very good judge of quality. Now, with all that out of the way, I have to admit that I love Stampede hockey. I had always heard that hockey, even more than other sports, is a much better experience live. Well, if my experience is any indication, its absolutely true. The speed and excitement just doesn't translate all that well to TV. My wife and I have also been to both Sioux Falls Canaries (baseball) games and a Sioux Falls Skyforce (basketball) game and can say that Stampede is, by far, our favorite. Part of it is personal preference, sure, but that isn't the whole story. The Stampede seem to have a much more devoted following and the crowds tend to be much more into the game. Most people in attendance seem to be following the action closely and are genuinely invested in the outcome. Considering this is a smaller, local team, I find that impressive. The prices are very reasonable. The cheapest seats are $7.50 on up to $20.00 or so for the premium spots. The Sioux Falls Arena honestly doesn't have a bad seat in the whole building. You can easily see the action from any location. Sure, closer is always better, but the $7.50 seats are just fine. The bottom line is that if you aren't a hockey fan going into a Sioux Falls Stampede game, you may just be one on your way out.

It's our personal opinion that it could have been a better event if they held it inside instead of outside, the event tried to have a fair/carnival atmosphere, but the area wasn't big enough to pull it off. There were several different types of BBQ from different areas, and easily it could be costly to go to this, $5 to get in per person, $4 for a non-alcoholic drink and lowest cost for food we saw for BBQ was $9.00 which was 3 ribs and beans. Music was great and it was free however the only people that got a shaded area was the ViP's, whoever they were everyone else normal like us ended up getting sunburned. Seating down and eating you will get a mix of music from the food stands since they all are playing their own brand of music and it overlaps each other. If you bring children next year make sure you bring plenty of sunblock to put on them, it cost us $30 per person to attend so if you have a large family bring plenty of money also. They did have a good selection of different vendors but you will be spending serious money if you eat at each one of them. The biggest issue I had at Ribfest is that they had over 20,000 people attend this event and only raised $1,800 for the Cure Kids Cancer fund, how much is being donated, a whopping 1 percent? Makes you wonder how much their administrative fees are. I gave it overall 2 stars due to the lack of shade and the cost. If you miss it no big deal, you can always go to Famous Daves.

What a great venue and sports complex for a smaller city! Pretty great that that they bring in top…read moretalent division 1 teams to play. This whole area is really emerging as a sport destination. Indoor football, basketball and golf venues. These even a bar/restaurant. The drawbacks are the food at the Sanford Pentagon is limited. But my biggest complaint is the seating. Why when you are building a new venue do you not make room for people to be comfortable in their seats? There is just not enough room for legs and feet in each row. Its almost impossible to walk down a row to your seat without stepping on others or almost falling. Once I got to my seat, as I sat down, I found my feet were jammed against the chair in front of me. Thank goodness their was a small kid next to me so I could steal a bit of his space! This is an Absolute Fail in building design. I am not from Sioux Falls, but I would not go back because it is not worth the uncomfortable seating. Too bad, because otherwise this place is pretty impressive.

Been in so many arenas throughout my career, and this is a keeper. Intimate seating experience, every ticket is a good one. Loved the positive attitude of the game day staff! Superlative displays of South Dakota basketball history in the lobby, loved it. Roomy concourse, good food options, enjoyed being able to play Corn Hole! Comfy seating. Good sound system, great court with superb sightlines. Enjoyed my first visit!
