I walked past this place lots of times and didn't even see it, nestled away in the Great Western Arcade. I ended up heading in after a friend from work sent me photos of shoes his wife had bought...after her visiting South African mother tipped her off! It's odd that someone had to travel half way around the world to get me into somewhere half a mile from me, but that's how it is.
This place is just a treasure trove of footwear. It's tiny, and you think there's not going to be too much, but there's a huge range and they stock brands that are tricky to find elsewhere. Lots of Fly, Irregular Choice, Ruby Shoo... Every time I go in I get palpitations and sweaty palms, because I want IT ALL.
I might have some chance of restraining myself if the staff were mean and rude in there, but unfortunately they're not. They're lovely. The guy (?owner) has devoted time to putting half insoles in shoes for me, and watching me deliberate and deliberate, without ever getting impatient. His sales technique is gentle, which is good considering that selling to me involves agreeing with me as I sell stuff to myself.
If you want something unusual, or just something that's not from a big chain, and you don't want to spend your whole month's pay in one fell swoop, visit! Try to leave without a box. Good luck! read more
