Canada Trading Company: A Niagara Falls Must-Visit…read more Located in the heart of Clifton Hill, the Canada Trading Company is much more than a typical souvenir shop. It is a massive, well-organized emporium that expertly blends classic Canadian mementos with high-quality collectibles. Visitors are often drawn in by the impressive life-sized animal displays and rustic, lodge-like atmosphere, making it a fun photo op as much as a retail destination. From authentic maple syrups and plush toys to unique home decor and Indigenous-made crafts, the variety is staggering. While it can get crowded during tourist peaks, the wide aisles and friendly service ensure a pleasant shopping experience.

Everything was great until I went to the register to check out. I paid for my items once, received confirmation from my bank via text at 8:51pm. The cashier insisted that the store didn't receive the transaction and to charge my card again. He retrieved what appeared to be the Supervisor, who insisted again to charge my card and that the text from the bank wasn't sufficient evidence of me paying. Against my better judgement while have my child begging for these items, I did indeed charge my card again. Especially after being assured if I emailed the Manager, it will all be sorted out. I charged again at 8:59. Ultimately the store received my money twice. I was refunded the next day, after emailing the Manager to sort everything out. I was pleasantly surprised at how this was resolved. The only thing I will say is that the workers and the women from accounting who called me all said, this happens often. Here's a tip, get the POS system looked at so another customer doesn't have to experience this.

I'll let you read my SLS&GS review (https://www.yelp.com/biz/st-lawrence-smoke-and-gift-shop-toronto) to find what's going on over there. As for TSM, there's plenty of cool stuff. IMHO, they win over the Smoke Shop when it comes to maple quality and selection. You'll find maple syrup, maple cookies, maple candies, maple butter, maple chocolate, and maple coffee and tea, just to name the most prominent. I also put TSM on top when it comes to sports stuff ... you'll find a sturdy amount of reasonably priced Toronto Raptors and Blue Jays gear. They also best their cross-walkway rivals in things the Smoke Shop just doesn't have (or has so little of I missed it): TSM wins on RCMP (a.k.a. The "Mounties") stuff, post cards (expensive, but excellent quality), Anne of Green Gables (the famed Canadian novel character) items, and on international flags. When it comes to the standard Toronto- and Canada-adorned items, both stores do well with t-shirts, magnets, mugs, bags, sunglasses, bags, and the rest. There isn't a lot of crossover, though, making both stores must-sees for the souvenir hunter. With a straightforward name like "The Souvenir Market" you expect an abundance and variety of great stuff ... and, boy, TSM delivers!

A tip, if you will, wait a bit after you come back up the elevators. You'll appreciated not being in the crowd of everyone else you just shared the boat with. You also won't be pushed through the store and might not miss an item you would have picked up. I did the wait and made my way here after the crowd had thinned. I browsed the shelves and slowly made my selections. If you time it just right you might end up in the store with the kind people you shared the boat ride with. Prices are what you would expect from a souvenir shop. Not everything is of high quality here, but if you browse just the right amount of time you will find the high quality item you want. They do have self checkouts in here or you can go to the counter and be waited on. This store is also connected to the restaurant. You can enter from there or take the direct entrance from outside.

We had already done the Maid of the Mist boat tour on a previous visit, but somehow missed doing the Observation Tower. For this low fee, it was definitely worth seeing Niagara Falls, American Falls, Goat Island, and the downstream end of the Niagara River. Definitely worth the time to check out the view!
