They…read morehave the most magnificent collection of Christmas decorations this side of the Christmas store up in Niagara on the Lake. This is the visions of sugar plums dancing in my head realized in real time. I can spend hours just sifting through all of the unique and whimsical holiday decor. Every year I try and add something new and fun to my collection and this year I just couldn't resist a set of Christmas tree lights that are the Red Ruby Slippers from the Wizard of Oz.. My holiday tree this year will be sparkling red shoes! There are other fun trinkets and oddities to also be found at Flatirons. Over the past few years I've picked up a bobble head Jesus, Mullet Magnets, Axis of Evil finger puppets and a Queen Elizabeth figurine that does the waving hand thing. All very funny and extremely campy. Flatiron also carries an excellent selection of cards not only for the holidays but also for all other occasions. Finally, best of all, Flatiron's is just a few doors away from what I think is Toronto's best bookstore, Nicolas Hoare's Books. Absolutely fantastic bookstore and on a day like today I can't think of a better harbour from the chilly winter air than sitting by the fireplace in Nicolas Hoare's ogling the books and admiring ones latest purchases from Flatirons.

From skincare to mugs, kitchenware, plushies and cards, there is always something for someone there. I've been to Outer Layer more times than I can count if I need to find a gift for someone. Even if I may not find the perfect gift for a friend and family, it's a great shop to browse at as well. Definitely a great spot for some unique gifts for yourself or others! Staff are friendly and I've never had an issue with them. My shopping experience here is pleasant and I never feel rushed or pressured to buy anything. I read her every item my sister recommended I buy for my nephew and she was very patient and kind while helping me decide on the perfect combination of gifts to make his covid birthday special. The associate, helped me go through the virtual checkout so I could use my gift card and had the gifts wrapped and ready to go in a couple minutes. When I arrived at the store I called them and they brought out the gifts and placed them on the table for curbside pickups. The service was perfect, quick, friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend this toy store. Would I go back? Absolutely! This was actually my most pleasant curbside pickup experience in all of covid. Thank you for your exceptional customer service.

So I agreed we could go in, very quickly, and in about three minutes I spent about $60. What an adorable, thoughtfully curated, independent toy store. I was looking for rare Hot Wheels cars and was directed to a different brand. More larger and unique cars based from real life, I had to get them. Kids love 'em as well as I, a man-child that is very particular in my choices. I wrote a Google review about another local toy shop in Toronto that I won't name here. Pleasantly surprised when I entered Playful Minds. Both shops are like night and day... Playful Minds is the bright, sunny, happy place, ideal to bring your kids to. While the other, "Terminally Ill Toy Store, Queen of the West" is the dark, deathly night where trolls follow you around without a peep, hoping for a reason to chase you away ...or eat your children, I'm still not sure what their deal is. I will definitely shop here again and suggest my family and friends to do so as well, maybe even people I don't like very much.
