Tinker and Smithy Game Store - Me, in action playing the game

You can check out the games for a measly $5, much like one would check out DVDs (RIP Blockbuster) or library books even. Or even better: you can play the games all located in the back shelf for free - right in the vicinity - which can be great if you got some free time on your hands on a lazy Sunday. Right after having brunch at the Diner, we stopped by here and played several rounds of Exploding Kittens. Highly recommend that game. Many other games also to try out. The owner was so friendly; when we walked in, he asked us if it was our first time and immediately showed us the free games in the back to play. My only complaint is that there is a faint smell that I can only know too well: boy smell. It's not the most pleasant smell, but I suppose it could also be worse. I feel like the business could use an air freshener. Maybe I'm just fussy. Nevertheless, this is still a good spot to have fun!

I'd like to make an exception to that and give an enthusiastic thumbs-up to our local board game cafe, The Boardroom - Board Game Cafe in Burlington (literally just across the river from Winooski, at the Chace Mill). Lots of metro areas have boardgame cafes where you can drop in, play a game, get a bite to eat, and hang out, but mysteriously, Chittenden County didn't until seven weeks ago. The staff (Kerry, Preston, and Justin are the folks we've interacted with) are super friendly and super knowledgeable -- if you walk in and say "I want a game that involves livestock and aliens that can be played in under an hour and that takes less than ten minutes to learn" their eyes will unfocus for a second and then they'll go "Right!" and lead you right to said game. And then they'll helpfully explain the rules to whatever extent you need help. Apparently they know all the rules for every game ever created. They have, literally, hundreds of games, for every age and skill level. The food there is very good also -- they have giant pretzels, plates of pickles, sammiches of all kinds, drinks, coffee, you name it. At the end of every session, they bring you complementary cotton candy. What's not to like? I do not own stock in The Board Room nor do I expect to gain materially by posting this over-the-top review. I just want them to stay open and prosper so *I* can hang out there and play games.

Didnt even get to play a game because they created so many issues for us. Both myself and my date were more than displeased, I had to split my sandwhich. we came hungry and left hungry with a side of bad taste in our mouth from the owners rude attitude and lack of business ethics. Food bad, basic food that's overly expensive, small portions except for large portions of cheap bad ingredients chips. They don't know the difference between spring mix and sauted spinach or was just very old, slimy, wilted. We regret choosing this place. Ridiculous experience and business owner who certainly does not have any education or experience around food or business. As someone who's worked in both I'm disgusted by this experience, especially coming from the owner. She wouldnt even remake the sandwich or ma a different one which either way would have been cheaper than the one she had to take off the bill and throw away anyway. so they knew we left hungry and continued being rude. The owner said if she remade it then you'd be getting a free one. there was 2 bites taken out of the sandwich and the second was very forced after trying to take out the spinach which was not spring mix. they didn't try to make things right when we let go split my sandwich and both looked upset to even be there. we wanted to leave and honestly should have. I called today and the owner started raising her voice telling me that she said she'd make it when clearly that did not happen. You don't raise your voice when you're talking about an issue you created for someone else and not only didn't fix but continue to keep making more havoc. We just wanted a meal and to play a game. Neither of which happened- Did leave feeling played, but not the right kind haha- Do not give this business your money.

You don't come to The Book Garden expecting Powell's City of Books or the endless aisle of Strand…read more No, this is a small, magical space that's tucked away in a cozy space in the center of Montpelier, Vermont. You'll open the door, and instead be greeted with the playful chime of the front door's bells that will accompany a simple "Welcome", and the presence of Brad. He will confidently preside over the space with the gentle guardian energy of a wise, ancient custodian, ensuring all who enter are assured that they do - in fact - belong here nowhere else more than they do here. You'll look to your right and muse over the selection of Tarot decks, and books on ancient mysticism. You'll find your interest growing as you land on Claire Saffitz's latest cookbook. Electic, you'll think. Then you'll turn around, and displayed proudly at the front will be troves of literature extolling the beauty and depth of the Green Mountain State. Then you'll take your next steps inside. Your eyes will sweep over rows and rows of graphic novels, and a bold fantasy/sci-fi book case that has all of the reverent classics and hot new entries in the genre. Brad will be watching you quietly with a smile, his counter containing select Magic the Gathering cards, each of which enshrined protectively, as if containing the power of these rare relics. And the beating heart of the store, a robust selection of some tabletop games for all interests and ages. The Book Garden has been the much-needed local shop for all of the nerdy and geeky literary and gaming needs of those residing in the greater Montpelier area. I have been picking up my graphic novels from the store for years, and find myself becoming more attached to the place over time. Brad has been more than the new owner of a Montpelier fixture - he has given this place the unyielding amount of love and respect that both it, and our community, deserves. If you find yourself about to step past this special nook as you walk down the capitol's main street, you'd do well to pause and take a look around.

I was sorely mistaken. They offered me $90 for a console that they will turn around and sell for ~$300. They claimed they were doing me a favor by giving me 10 whole dollars (!!!) more than GameStop was offering.... Regardless they'll be making a $200 profit off of my sorry ass. The employee claimed they'd only sell it for $150 but me, not being a total dumbass, pointed toward the base version switches they are selling for $250 and questioned why they'd sell a superior version of the same console for less... The employee got noticeably nervous and just kept repeating that his boss wouldn't let him change the price. (Massive eye roll). I was scammed. The only reason I took the deal was because I needed grocery money. Hope they feel good about extorting locals. This was my first time ever doing business with them and it's most certainly my last.
