I asked a friend for a recommendation for a quiet place to read and enjoy a good breakfast, and he immediately pointed me towards Simitdchi. I have to say, it ended up being one of my favorite meals in Berlin!
The simits are freshly rolled and baked, and with the high volume of customers, you're almost guaranteed one baked in the last hour or so. I also ordered the menemen on the recommendation of my friend - it's a spiced tomato and scrambled egg combo with some fresh arugula that paired amazingly with the simit. I never knew a simit could be so soft and delicious - the ones I've found in the States are usually quite hard and somewhat tasteless.
Simitdchi has a lot of seating removed from the busy counter area, and I was able to find a quiet spot without issue. They forgot about my order (which I honestly did not notice because I'd been reading), so they gave me an extra simit and a glass of Turkish tea on the house. The tea had a beautiful mahogany color, great flavor, and a decent amount of caffeine.
I ate my extra simit on my flight the next morning, and though it had dried out a bit, it was still reasonably soft and super delicious. I think I paid about 4€ for what basically was two meals worth of food (crazy!) - I already miss this place and look forward to returning when I'm next in Berlin. read more
