Legit live theater in an unexpected part of DC…read more If you've been around the last 20+ years, you would notice dinner theaters and old school acting abilities have died off to no talent sitcoms and overpriced cheap entertainment. Well Studio Theatre is a local spot with lots of talent and great shows. We saw Paradise Blue and it was amazing. Beyond that, this place just works. Plenty of parking. Decent place of DC. Clean bathrooms. Decent snacks and drinks. If you are a fan of live acting that is in our face, this is a great spot for dates and night outs with friends. Overall a great live theatre option.

The actors were so good in their respective roles and I was completely immersed in the story. It came together at the end really well and the practical effects were incredible. I loved the staging with the 2 floors and getting to see everything all at once. The theatre itself was very nice. The bathrooms were spacious and clean, the ushers were kind and helpful, and the seats were relatively comfortable. Pro tip, choose row E if you want extra legroom!

I visited the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Harman Hall this past Sunday for a performance of…read moreParanormal Activity (their seasons include non-Shakespeare works), and I was really impressed by the production and the building itself. (FYI: STC has productions in two separate theaters - Harman Hall and Klein Theatre, so make sure you know which location is the location for your production). Harman Hall is beautiful - modern, bright, large. We sat in the front row of the mezzanine, and the seats were great but I think most of their seats would be great. Unlike the prices are outrageous, I often like to sit in the front row of the mezzanine when I attend the theater, because I'm short and often find my view obstructed by people in front of me in theaters. Because Harman Hall is modern and newer than historic theaters (on Broadway in NYC, for example), the incline of seats in the theater is much more pronounced than in other theaters. I didn't need to sit in that front row, because I probably could have seen from anywhere. Our performance wasn't sold out, and the theater was not packed or crowded - short lines for the bar (especially on the top floor where we were sitting anyway), short lines for the bathroom. The location is convenient, near a couple of Metro stations, lots of restaurants and bars, and a few museums. We parked in a garage I reserved a spot in on SpotHero, which was less than $15 for the day, too. Although I tend to focus my reviews of theaters on the theater itself (you could see a good production at a theater and then a production you don't like as much - but you can still appreciate the theater - its comfort, its location, its amenities), I will say that the production we saw was interesting and thought-provoking. I'd say I'm likely to return, but I have tickets for a production in April, so I know I will be.

I'll be honest that it's…read morerare I ever go to a play, but in 2019-early 2020, it was a pretty common occurrence as I was part of INWEGO. In April 2019, my friend got me to join INWEGO. We each got a credit, which made it nearly free. On April 12, 2019, I went to Arena Stage for the 1st time, and the INWEGO era began. You'd pay $19 for 1 show a month, $39 for 3 shows, & $59 for 5 shows. This included plays, concerts, sporting event, comedy, & other various events. I visited National Theatre 4 times all on INWEGO: 1. Tuesday, December 10, 2019: Fiddler on the Roof 2. Thursday, December 19, 2019: Jersey Boys 3. Tuesday, February 11, 2020: King's Speech 4. Wednesday, March 4, 2020: Bandstand A lot of great shows. Some good vantage points from the level to upper level section seats that I got along with my girlfriend of that time. It was a cool, grand venue. Each time was its own unique experience. December 10, 2019: I'll be honest that I was upset with my girlfriend of that time on that day. I had gotten home from work to quickly eat & take Metro down. I had some couscous at home. She was making it, but she had doctored it with cannabis. She had feminine issues that day, but I was pissed she ruined our couscous that night. I barely could talk to her I was shaking with anger. Ultimately, we were committed to going, and I still wanted to see Fiddler on the Roof. It was a great show with a great first impression of National Theatre. December 19, 2019: My girlfriend & I didn't break up on or shortly after December 10th's couscous. We were pretty good for Jersey Boys. This time my friend who got me to join INWEGO was joining us for the play. I remember my g/f & I had some disagreement in the early part of the evening around dinner, but I don't remember what it was about, and it didn't spoil the night. Jersey Boys was my favorite of the 4 plays I think. February 11, 2020: King's Speech was a great play and a good night for us on the lower orchestra level. That was the only time of the 4 we were on the orchestra level. March 4, 2020: Bandstand was another funny story. We were in the upper balcony section once again. We met up with her friends another couple sitting next to them. At the time, we were taking this Covid thing with a grain of salt not realizing what we would be facing soon, saying time to social distance & fist bumping but not thinking much of it. After the show, I learned my friend who got me to join INWEGO was there too. We were texting about the Metro or something after the show, and I was like what a coincidence we are at the same Metro. He mentioned Bandstand. We realized we were in the same row. He was like 8 seats further down, but we didn't notice each other. My girlfriend & I thought it was interesting he didn't try to coordinate with me. Conclusions: National Theatre is a great venue with a lot of memories. Sadly, INWEGO went out of business in Sept. 2020 as they couldn't survive the still Covid environment at that time. Perhaps, I'll visit National Theatre again if it was ever convenient.

Went to the National Theatre for the first time ever. The group I was with saw "Suffs" (short for…read moreSuffragists). It is a Tony Award winning musical that retell pivotal moments from the Women's Suffrage Movement, especially events that led up to the Suffrage March in 1913, the The National Woman's Party White House Pickets in 1917, and the subsequent events after over the decades. The story was told beautifully through a lot of music and dancing, humor, disagreements, losses, tragedies, and wins the women faced individually and together over the decades. I appreciate the play also addressing tough discussions that needed to be had, such as the movement often & purposely excluding women of color. I also appreciate the play highlighting the significant contributions Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. made with the 1913 March despite facing racial tension from the organizers who wanted them to be in the back of the march. Overall, I will say the theatre itself is very professional, especially with seating patrons and ensuring easy transitions before, after, and throughout the show. They absolutely do not allow any outside food nor drinks. I would suggest eating before or getting something light from the theatre. It is also very close to the metro rail (Metro Center) so transportation there isn't a hassle.

I just saw (May 29, 2009) a preview of "1001" based loosely on the Persian story of the woman who told stories for 1,001 nights in order to avoid being beheaded. The play weaves the original story with other stories which echo and reframe the story-within-a-story-within-a-story concept... ultimately to illustrate how the stories we tell ourselves frame how we see the world. (This seems to be a local theater theme right now -- Arcadia at the Folger and Legacy of Light at Arena have the same concepts!) 1001 was very well done... the script was excellent, the acting -- including comic moments -- was very good, and they used props and the staging (theater in the round) very well. It was held in the basement of a church at the time (2005), and was a modern adaptation of an early 18th century Japanese samurai play ("Fair Ladies at a Game of Poem Cards"). An adorable love story with lots of Imogen Heap songs thrown in, it's amazing how the company takes their limited funding and resources and creates wonderful stories on stage with ingenuity and creativity. Tickets are always very inexpensive and their play choices are always refreshingly unique and "indie". Rorschach Theatre will always have a special place in my heart.

I am so disappointed by the customer service I received when trying to rent at dance loft. I would ask questions via email, not receive full responses, get very late responses, and nobody would pick up the phone. Their prices are crazy, and I was also made aware that my name was on their calender for a booking that I never confirmed. I then reached out to the director about this mistake, and never received a reply. I don't understand why their business operations are so abysmal, but it's safe to say I will never be renting with Dance Loft. The dance community in the DMV deserves better than this.

Got my tickets off of goldstar for "free" but really had to pay $5 processing fee. The theatre is cozy and clean. The patrons are polite, friendly, and older. Get cookies, coffee, and other refreshments before a show for a donation of your choice.
