Dana the wine maker makes all the wines and they are delicious and smooth especially the calabash white which is my favorite. A nice variety. Beautiful grounds and they have live music every Sunday. I visited this winery this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised that the wines were very flavorful but not sweet. They apparently outsource the grapes. The staff was friendly and accommodating (they put out extra cushions for us after the rain), so we could sit outside. They also had frosty mugs and several different craft beer choices for my sister who isn't much of a wine connoisseur. I would recommend the Merlot and pay for the extra reserve tasting. The wines weren't fancy but enjoyable. Worth checking out! read more

We had the best day visiting silver coast winery! The ladies were so accommodating for our group of 15 including 7 kids! They set up a cute kids table before we even arrived and had hula hoops for them to play with too! The wine tasting was fun and delicious! After seeing the online reviews and pictures (including those of the great looking snack platters), I was looking forward to introducing my friend to her first wine tasting. The "platter" we received consisted of one unopened plastic tub of pimento cheese and 2 sleeves of crackers. They were placed before us along with little plastic "communion cups" of wine and the staff person walked away. I had to ask her to explain to my newbie friend how to properly taste wine (swirl, sniff etc). Overall, the staff person was disinterested in us as customers. It was a total disappointment. The wine was mediocre. Snack tray from Hormel. We had high expectations. European style is vague. The staff couldn't tell us if that meant French or Italian. We tried whites and reds but nothing stood out enough to purchase. The kids had a place to sit and a few games but they didn't have good snacks either. read more

Long overdue but I'd been disappointed since I left, (especially since recent winery's I've visited have followed through with what they offer) What would've been a great first visit was somewhat rushed and to top it off we weren't sent off with our signature glasses which were included in the Groupon we came with. Not sure if the experience was due to new staffing (our host mentioned being new) or plain carelessness. Wine was tasty and would consider giving this place another go. I give the Silver Coast Winery 5 stars not necessarily because of the wine, but because of the staff and atmosphere...and okay, maybe some of the wine :) Our family vacations in Ocean Isle Beach every year and when I ran across this place, I thought it would be a fun activity to break up the beach time and hang with the family. Eight of us went and everyone had a GREAT time. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and the wines were great! True, some better than others, but everyone came away with a few bottles and definitely had selected some favorites. I particularly liked the Stainless Chardonnay, the Reserve Merlot and the White Merlot. The facility is beautiful - the bar area cozy and welcoming, plus tons of local art, crafts and gifts. There's also a room for events with a great waterfall feature that I could have stayed in for hours. We all raved about it so much we've already got people wanting to go to a tasting next year. This winery is an extremely necessary break from the beach. I know the beach is relaxing, but this winery just emanates relaxation of a different style. The decor of the winery itself is a rich wooden interior. The staff are extremely friendly and willing to help if you have any questions. The wine here is of sweet nature. Mixes of pineapples, pears, apricots, pears, and then some flowers even are hinted in the tastes of the wine. If you buy the wine, the cost of a bottle is $14, I am unsure of the cost of a case. The wine is a perfect match for a hot summer day at the beach. read more

Ok, So the first time I went here, my experience was less than stellar but I gave it another chance at the urging of Rebecca. So this place is a little off the beaten path but about 5-8minutes from the main highway, 17. There are signs along the way so even I didn't get lost going there. The driveway is long and a little bumpy but the lawns were beautiful when I was there. There are a few rows of vines in the front yard and a stage area and lawn to the right when you come in. There is more than enough parking and seating here. When you walk in you are first welcomed by a wall FULL of awards and accomplishments, actually all the walls had personal photos and acknowledgments on them. There was also a room full of art that was available for purchase that was create primarily by local artists from what I could tell. I already knew what wines I wanted when I got there but there was one I didn't try last time that was the "monthly special" so I gave it a go. The staff was more than happy to pour me a sample. It was great! I ended up buying a box of white wines and heading on my way because I was on my way out of town. I will probably be back in a few weeks and try some more of the reds that I passed on last time. My mother purchased some of the dessert wine and its very sweet but that's typical of dessert wines, a little goes a long way. There are also several varieties of white wine that I was surprised to see and am excited to see what upcoming blends they come up with. The prices on the website reflect store pricing as well as selection from what I could remember. read more

The Wine Club is very inexpensive to join and they host a lot of events that are fun to attend. Make sure you check their events calendar, there are lots of fun things to do and see. I was really surprised at the quality of this winery. The bf and I headed here before driving home from the beach. Although we are both big Virginia wine fans, we were a bit skeptical of a North Carolina winery near the beach. Could it be any good? First off, we learned the grapes aren't grown there. They are grown in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia. The winemaker comes from the Finger Lakes and has more than 30 years of experience. The tasting room staff was extremely friendly. There were a variety of wines to sample, including an unoaked chardonnay, cab franc, cab sauv, and several blends. The reds were on the fruitier side, not super dry, but tasty. You could taste reds for $6, whites for $6, or all for $10. Nice! We tried them all, and then noticed there were even more cool selections sold by the glass, so I also got a glass of viogner, and my boyfriend got the oaked chardonnay. Both were also very well made. As we sipped them, we wandered around the winery and loved the selection of art on the walls. There were all kinds of paintings, sculptures and some awesome wine racks for sale. It was definitely a cool place to stay for a bit and sip. We took home a bottle of Calabash White, which was a blend on the sweeter side, and a bottle of Tesouro, a fuller bodied, dryer red that would go well with red meat. Just went over on a rainy Saturday afternoon. It was my first time doing a wine tasting at a winery, so I have no basis for comparison, but the staff was friendly and welcoming and they have some really nice facilities. There was a wedding there that day (shame about the rain) and I can see this being a good place for events. The wine tasting was $6 for 5 or $10 for all twelve that they had available. My unprofessional verdict, corroborated by my two companions: The whites were good, the reds were not. We purchased two bottles of the Calabash White, very reasonably priced at $10. They have different wines for different tastes, so your results may vary, but this is a nice grown-up diversion from the beaches and boogie boards. read more

We visited this winery while staying in the Ocean Isle Beach area. It is a little off the beaten path, but then again many wineries are. The staff was very friendly and inviting. The tasting was fun and although they charge for it, it was inexpensive. The main building houses an art gallery and there is a free, short tour through the production facility. If you've been to other wineries before, this one certainly won't impress with vast, picturesque grounds covered in vineyards and rolling hills, and there aren't caverns full of expensive aging wine like you might find in Napa. This is a small winery, but they do make up for it with a great staff and some nice wine. We had fun. read more

This was our second trip to Silver Coast Winery. Our first time was about 3 years ago and we enjoyed it. This time we were in the area and knew we had to stop again for a tasting and maybe pick-up a few bottles. It's pretty easy to find, just follow the signs. The tasting room is very pretty with a gift shop and art displayed. The day we were there, there was an art show and the artist was there. The wine club members were also coming in but the crowd was very friendly and very considerate. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. The tasting flight was your pick of 5 wines and a souvenir wine glass for $6. We both picked four of their regular wines and 1 premium (limited) wine. We really liked all the whites we tried. Some were very crisp and clean, others had a slight sweetness/fruitiness to them. I was already pairing them up with dishes in my head while I was sipping. The Rose was good and totally not what I expected, each sip changing the flavor. I wasn't as enamored of the Merlot. But I'm not a Merlot drinker. The limited edition wines were exceptional but we were limited in our choices because three of them were sold out. We also tried the White Merlot and immediately knew this was going to be one of our summer wines. You could really taste the fruit notes with this wine! We both ended up ordering a glass of wine to sip after our tasting flight was done. There are rooms to wander, art to look at, people to chat with, and even rocking chair outside to sit in. All and all a very enjoyable stop and we left with four bottles and a smile on our faces! read more

Well I recently moved to Brunswick County from the Wine country of Virginia where I had no less than half dozen wineries very close and even more within a couple hours of my home. After moving here I met Debra and Maryann at Silver Coast Winery and was delighted to know I had such a nice place so close by. So far I have tried the Rubio which is a sweet red desert wine that goes great with a chocolate desert as well as other deserts I am sure. My next wine and my favorite wine now is the Toriga or as it has been nicknamed "The Cape Fear Blood Wine". Very fitting as it has to be one of the darkest reds I have ever tasted. A rich flavor wine with many facets to the taste buds. I enjoy it with a cut of filet mignon. The winery is a pleasure to visit with an art gallery and gift shop. They have two tasting areas if I am not mistaken and can cater events of all sizes based on the rooms that I saw. Oh and by the way be sure to check out the barrel room and the wonderful waterfall at the front of it! read more

It was my family's first trip to Ocean Isle Beach. We planned a day off the beach to explore the area. I am so glad we stopped at Silver Coast Winery! Our hostesses were gracious and welcoming. The tasting room is charming and the wine tasting was offered in a way that did not intimidate the novice tasters. I tried half a dozen wines and left with several bottles of my favorites: the seyval blanc and the white merlot. We had fun browsing the gallery and gift area. There are several nice places to have a glass after your tasting. . .an outdoor garden area, rocking chairs or a nice art room inside. We also had an excellent cheese plate with our glasses.
