Ask the Community - Silicon Valley College

Where can I find my school records? Who holds them now that the school has been closed? I need to have a sealed affidavit so that I can apply for my pharmtech license again (I've been inactive for 3yrs & want to renew but have to re-apply). HELP!

I noticed another lead on yelp. For those of you who spent a lot of time and money going to Silicon Valley College, I would suggest putting Carrington College on your résumé. Contact the registrar's office. They have all of your transcripts. - I… Read more

I am trying to get some information about Silicon Valley College. I graduated in 1996 Clinical Medical Technician. Does anyone remember the promise of once the school was accredited that we could come back no further charge to get our AA/AS degree?

they were bought out by DeVry, try calling one of the DeVry campuses, I think Fremont or Newark has one, and they should have your info.

By the end you're looking at a loan amount of $42,021 turning into over $134,000 in total payments with more than $92,000 just in interest. It honestly doesn't feel worth it. On top of that they don't accept any outside prerequisites so you're required to take them through the school which costs an additional $1,700. They also don't accept scholarships only loans and they don't offer in house payment plans either. In the end you end up paying more in interest than the actual cost of the program.

I have been a student here for 3 1/2 years alternating between both campuses. The Newark one is my…read morefavorite, a fairly sized building where students come to work, study, and relax. I always went to the library there, students have some personal space and aren't crowded together like at main campus. If you call the # of the library, you can reserve a room to get your work done. They have a career center where they give mock interviews, comes in handy since I also utilized it for resume help. Inside there is a small room where students can play pool, watch TV, or play piano to kill some time. Parking is not a problem and I always prefer the space on the right of the campus. If you want some fresh air, you can take a walk around campus. The food at Newark is ok, but I highly recommend to drive to "The Block," which is the Fremont shopping district. You could buy from Costco, Panda Express, or even Wendy's besides the overpriced food. For students or future students reading this, try to take all of your classes here! No need to walk all the way up the hill like the main campus. All of the classes are next to each other with lots of places to study or relax. Every now and then they hold events like a Career fair or UC/CSU workshops, those are very useful and I recommend attending those. There is nothing wrong with attending a community classes, classes are cheaper and you get to redeem yourself from any mistakes of the past.

I attended MCC for their CNA Program and could not recommend it more for anyone who's considering…read moreit. Miss Didi was my instructor and was, by far, the best teacher I've ever had. She genuinely wanted every student to succeed. Each lecture, she shared insight from her professional experience, gave plenty of examples of how different scenarios would look in practice, and always welcomed discussions when something wasn't clear. During clinicals, she provided so much guidance and support, followed by thoughtful debriefs at the end of each day. She took the time to connect what we learned in theory to the real patients we worked with, which made everything make so much more sense. Miss Didi prepared me incredibly well for the state exam. I felt confident enough to take the written exam the day after graduating and the skills exam three days later, passing both with flying colors. Additionally, Mr. Dell and Dr. Marilyn were extremely supportive and checked in often to make sure we had what we needed throughout the program. I wanted to add that while MCC does not guarantee placement to a facility with their program, it is important to note that there are A LOT of opportunities for networking that Miss Didi and MCC offers. For my class, Miss Didi had several administrators and DSD's speak with us about their facilities, offering insight, applications, and contact information should you decide to apply. I just interviewed for my top choice facility and have been offered employment contingent on passed reference checks, background check and fingerprinting. I graduated from my program 8 days ago. You get what you put into the program, and being open to communication and learning will lead you to the start of a rewarding career. Overall, MCC made the whole experience feel worth it, and I feel truly set up for success moving forward.

It's with disappointment that I'm updating my review of Mission Valley ROP, and deducting a star…read more As a graduate of American High School and Mission Valley ROP, having taken 3 different courses through ROP, and even earned college credit in one of them, I felt fortunate to have had the pleasure of taking Business Ownership, Marketing, and Law Enforcement. However, it has come to my attention, that the current students at American High are currently without an Instructor for Culinary Arts, therefore the students are being "taught" by "substitutes". I get that teacher shortages are happening everywhere, and we are just getting through a global pandemic, but at the same time it's not like the previous Instructor Chef Rosen, decided to retire last minute. They knew well in advance, and you would think they would have been able to get an instructor before the school year started. If for some reason, they weren't able to find an instructor, which seems to be the case now, why even offer the course this year at all until an instructor is found? I've heard that students are trying switch out of the class and into other classes because they don't have an instructor, and are still being taught by substitutes. It's such a shame many of these students who are seniors, many of which who are coming out of distance learning, signed up for Culinary Arts, yet are being taught by substitutes. They probably aren't even being taught much or learning much about Culinary Arts. I hope Mission Valley ROP is doing everything they can to get a qualified instructor to teach Culinary Arts at American, as there are 4 Culinary Arts classes and 1 Event Planning course offered at American. If anything, perhaps they should ask Chef Rosen to come back until a permanent instructor can be found? Just to show the impact of taking an ROP class, not only did I earn College Credit for one of the courses I took, to this day, I still stay in touch with one of my instructors, Sergeant Crawford. Unfortunately, the other instructor I had, Mr. Gary Marsh sadly passed away a few years ago.

I'm currently a student here and all the common misconceptions are so very wrong. Many people…read moreconceive that Kennedy is a school for the 'bad' kids, well you are wrong. Coming into this school, I believed what people told me; that this school was filled with gangs, that the students didn't care about college, the teachers didn't care, and that it's overall a bad environment for a student. Now that I am a student here, my view has entirely changed. The students here are working on changing what the public thinks of Kennedy. In the future Kennedy will be a college going school. To be frank, there are people who dress like gangsters, but in reality they act like any other high school student. The AVID program at Kennedy is spearheading the college going culture thanks to Mr. Dave Williams. Kennedy is currently the only AVID certified school in FUSD. For those who don't know what AVID is, it is a program that is designed to give students the tools and the mind thought to get students into Four-year Universities. http://www.tricityvoice.com/articlefiledisplay.php?issue=2011-05-31&file=AVID+++TCV.txt Currently, the Class of 2012 AVID Class has 71 College Acceptances split between 15 students. Not bad. Many of the teachers at Kennedy truly care for the students and they actually want the students to succeed. The only problem is the students' work ethic. Many of the students are smart, but generally very lazy. If parents were more involved in their own child's life, it would better their education, and overall make Kennedy a better place for education. For the time that I've been here, I've felt very safe. It's a very family-like atmosphere here at Kennedy, there are no cliques at all. Everyone is friends with each other. The only downside at Kennedy is that the school is so poor and we do not get enough funding. We are so technologically behind here at Kennedy that it's funny. I really hope that in the future when I have kids, that Kennedy will be rebuilt/remodeled. The school is extremely old and fragile. Overall, I would not hesitate to send any child to this school. You truly have to experience it yourself in the end.

Rooms 2113A and 2113B are set up in a way that if you have an afternoon/evening class the sun flares on the screen where professor may be trying to show slides and if you have laptop for class the sun glares off even if the "shades" are down. And then professor is stuck staring into the sun for several hours until the sun finally sets. Have a few class mates that can't come to class because it causes their migraines to flare. Was told there is nothing that they can do to fix this issue so if you have migraines then I'm sorry if you get these two class rooms in the afternoon/evening. As for the professors I have had good experiences with my in class professors and most of my online professors. Have only had a few sour apples that just show up to get paid or push the homework. But overall I have had a good experience so far.
