Hello Yelpers,
If you are looking for an alternative to the ridiculously expensive gyms in Geneva, Silhouette might be an option to consider. There are some serious pros as well as pretty big cons which I'll detail now:
Pros:
- The price: it is a lot cheaper than most of the other gyms in Geneva, ie at least less than half what you'd pay at Holmes (and I'm not even comparing it to Usine Opera...);
- The location: Silhouette has gyms all around the city (Acacias, Eaux-vives, Cornavin, airport, Chêne-Bourg, Charmille, etc...) so it's likely that there's one near you if you live inside the city;
- The free weight section: Silhouette probably has the biggest free weight section compared to all other gyms (at least the ones in the centre of the city).
Cons:
- Rush hour: it gets really packed during busy hours and you might have to endure some heavy proximity with strangers;
- Locker rooms: not the best ones (ie. army-like shower, no intimacy). I personally never shower there;
- Opening hours during the weekend: it closes at 9pm during the week (10pm in Eaux-vives) but at 5pm only on the weekend, which really isn't convenient;
- Contract policy: be careful if / when you become a member, their contracts are automatically renewed and you might get some bad surprises at the end of the year. Get informed and read everything carefully!!
In conclusion, if you refuse to pay an insane amount of money for a gym and you're willing to compromise a little bit on your personal space between 5 to 7pm, Silhouette might be for you.
Hope this helps!! Until then, happy yelping!! read more
