So very nice and appreciated! They have various displays inside and outside to peruse. The museum has multiple artifacts exhibits, including a library, baggage car, and caboose with historic photographs of the logging industry during that time. The platform has interesting displays as well. They are open Tuesday thru Saturday from 10am-2pm. Free admission, but they do accept donations. They are dog friendly as long as your dog is leashed. They have a decent sized parking lot available. Overall we had a nice visit. Would definitely recommend when visiting this area!

Noting that my disabled wife was having trouble getting into the rail car, he moved his lecture outside so that she could hear it. He was very good at describing items she couldn't see from outside, and had me help lift things up so she could see them. He went through so much of the collection and made it interesting to someone who is not a train buff. My wife is still talking about it this evening.

The man working the register walked up to us and interrupted our conversation not knowing any context and was a bit rude to be honest. I understand promoting the merchandise and trying to convince and sway us to buy but being rude won't get me to purchase anything or make me feel intimidated by you. He knew how to rush us out the door with his attitude and tone. Merch is pricey and the man working isn't the friendliest. Would recommend skipping the merch and just walk around the free informational area.

Good to know: skip the visitor's center and you can drive to the lighthouse which has a second…read more(much smaller) parking lot. There are clean bathrooms in the visitor's center, but at the upper lighthouse parking the bathrooms are more primitive. Similar to what you'd find at a park or campground. We've always skipped the visitor's center, but decided to finally give it a try. Inside is a tiny gift shop (more like a nook), a self guided museum type exhibit in one room, an open area with an information desk and some simple displays. A large window looks out to a rock face. There is a rear door that leads to a picnic area. We spent about 20 minutes inside. Including a restroom visit and gift shop meltdown. At the information desk we overheard someone asking how to find the lighthouse. They were instructed to walk 1/3 mile up the road. The person at the desk neglected to tell them they could drive up and park. I'm sure the walk is lovely, although I suspect it has a steep incline. If you have difficulties walking, driving to the lighthouse is probably a better option. We've been coming here for many years and have made many visits to the lackluster, concrete-floored, National Parks restroom facilities near the lighthouse and viewing area. Don't be like me. Stop inside the interpretive center for clean, indoor amenities like hot water and air fresheners.

Second, the pull in spot looks like it was well thought out. Plenty of space to maneuver. While the poor soul(s) in charge of the RV do the dumping, everyone else can pop on into one of the nicest visitor centers we've ever been to... and we've driven through almost all the states in the union. The center doesn't need to be open as they've got a great protected setup just outside the front door. Fortunately they were open, so we went in and spoke with Mike who was extremely helpful! He pulled up a map of the city, and with a red sharpy quickly marked all the places in town where we'd be able to pull up and park parallel... he even took into consideration how steep different streets were. If you're visiting Newport, go here first before anywhere else!

It's very nice, btw. Sigh. Ironic, right? Anyway they are very kind to me and love love their granddaughter aka Princess so we have visited with them quite a bit. I had been to LC a lot previously too. Pros: There are nice sandy beaches. The access isnt bad. There is a casino if you like that kinda thing. There is a big outlet mall. There are a lot of restaurants, some very good. Theres golf. The kite festival is fun. People are friendly. The farmers market is cool. There are hotels/motels/rentals for most budgets. There is a hospital. Lots of churches if you are so inclined. Its located reasonably close to Salem for Costco and Trader Joes trips. I found decent espresso, fish and chips, and other important items. There are multiple grocery stores. All in all, its a pretty cool spot. The cons: Other people like it too. It gets crowded. Traffic can be AWFUL. Parts of it feels pretty strip-mallish. That said. I still give it a five. Because we love two people that live there. And theyre so happy there.

The great hotel at reasonable rates. The veiw from our 3rd floor room. The sounds of the ocean crashing on the rocky shore. The people watching. Or just the coastal vibes. We recently found a hotel at great rates and keep coming back to this little town with a big heart. We're abto hit up the Sea Hag for some breakfast and "World Famous Bloody Mary's. " probably a nap after that. Trust me. A belly fool of food + a couple world's famous bloody Mary's and the sound of the ocean = sleepy time.

We looked for a place to eat first since we were so hungry. We found a Thai restaurant along the U.S. 101 Highway. We passed by the "The World's Smallest Harbor" and we meant to come back to check it out after our lunch but we completely forgot. I got distracted from seeing the cute little stores along the highway. Depoe Bay is not a stranger to Hollywood. Some movie locations were filmed here like from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (fishing trip scenes) and a restaurant scene in the movie The Burning Plain (with Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence and Kim Basinger)... Across the highway in the downtown area towards the ocean is a sea wall but it was getting too cold so we didn't cross the street.
