My spouse and I have been to Family Animal Care in Ottumwa three times so far (9/21/2023,…read more10/18/2023, and 11/8/2023). Our first visit was a last-minute emergency appointment for our cat Sophie who was having stomach problems. Kaitlyn, a Veterinary Assistant, was very kind and helpful. Dr. Drew White, a Veterinarian, was extremely professional, thorough, kind, and compassionate. He expertly diagnosed Sophie's problem and gave us some medicine that helped her feel better. Our second and third visits were vaccine appointments for all three of our cats. One of our cats hates riding in the car, and she made a mess in her carrier on the way to the vet. We didn't ask or expect anyone to do this, but Chloe, a Veterinary Assistant, offered to clean the carrier for us. My spouse and I were amazed by her proactive helpfulness and kindness. We appreciate you, Chloe! Dr. Drew White and Chloe were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and attentive during both of our vaccine appointments. Dr. Drew White answered all of my questions clearly and thoroughly, which I appreciated very much. He has a great "bedside manner". The high quality care our cats have received (as well as the high quality service we have received) influenced my spouse and I to switch from our old vet to Family Animal Care. Even though it's a longer drive, it's totally worth it for us. In my experience, Family Animal Care's prices are fair and reasonable. We're so grateful for their awesome staff and facility. Thank you, Family Animal Care!

From the front office staff to the assistants to the vets, it is obvious that they care immensely for each fur baby, and its mom/dad, that comes through their doors. She went in for a routine procedure on her ear and one week later she is gone. Her lab work prior to surgery was great and after the surgery it went south, what's that tell you. I went to Eastview for 32 years and used to swear by them. Beth Doggett was the best vet I ever dealt with anywhere with great compassion and love of animals. Since her retirement this place is circling the drain from the front desk to the back. My dog went in as healthy as a horse and came out weak and dying. Took her back in within the week and they admitted her. I went in on wed to see her and took one look at her and knew she was done. I took her to Cedar Rapids and the next day I had to say goodbye., breaks my heart~ negligence and not paying attention . I have no idea why Dr Jan did not say we have a big problem. They were going to just let her die in that cage. This is a very poorly run facility as far as I can see and getting worse by the day. Jan needs to open her eyes to what's going on. I will never forget or forgive her for losing my beloved Ronni. She said she wants to "learn from this"? Didn't know I was paying fees for a vet school And at my dogs life's expense? I pulled my files today and told her to never send me any correspondence. I actually had a call from Jan tonight . Funny how I didn't hear from her until Ronni was gone. Wanted to know if she could send a condolence card. What for~ damage was done. I would not take my hamster to this place. If your pet needs any procedure or surgery of any kind PLEASE think twice. If I would have switched vets when Beth retired Ronni would still be alive - I will never forgive myself. They will NEVER EVER get a damn dime from me again and I used to be a big customer spending a lot of money a year. Oh by the way my other lab had the same procedure done a year ago and she almost died after going into a seizure. I'm so done with this joke of a facility, find a different vet people!

I called the office, was rudely told if I didn't have full payment, they wouldn't see us with our cat. He was dying, it was between paydays, and we would of had partial payment only. We took him anyway. We only had 100$ of the about 140$ it would of been for blood work, x-rays, and the office visit. They rudely said, please wait, while my gf stood beside me with our half lifeless cat.. It was their tone, their demeanor, the receptionist acted as though we was an inconvenience to them sitting there chatting..They did go get the veternarian, who was alot more pleasant at least. She took our cat, put him on the floor, tried to make him walk, prescribed him Prednisone, no antibiotics, just a steroid, and did nothing else. Sent us away..no phone calls for a check up to see how our cat was doing, just said he should show improvement within a day or 2. Our cat died a week later..they didn't even take his temperature, they didn't do shit, and our cat is dead now. He was only a yr and a half old and had a long life left. I'm not blaming this vet, but they didn't even try to see what was wrong. They didn't even call to see if he was getting better..
