Things to expect from this practice: - 30-45 minutes on hold to speak to a rude receptionist - being transferred to a "nurse's" line during an emergency who is medically inept (one nurse told me I may need a blood transfusion as I was spotting during pregnancy?) - snarky, rude, dismissive doctors (besides Dr. k) who do not welcome your questions and make you feel like every concern is invalid We need to do better. read more

A young woman called Abi, had a D$C / hysteroscopy done by one of signature OB/GYN / Johns Hopkins doctors, Dr Phyllis P Campbell which was unsuccessful and perforated her large bowls. she caused too much damage to the patient who had to undergo surgery to remove her right ovary and appendix which were affected due to Dr. Campbell's actions. She also had to use a colostomy bag for over a year. The worse of it is that, shady Grove reports on this patient had no chance of having children due to these countless surgeries. Unfortunately, no one from Signature OB/GYN or Johns Hopkins medicine had reached out to this patient who is still going through a lot of health issues due to Dr. Campbell's action and take some responsibility. Avoid at all costs. The worst GYN experience I've ever had. Dr. yelled at me when she had trouble with her instruments- told me my body was shaped oddly. A comment no other gyn has ever made to me. Told me I needed a biopsy but had to wait 8 weeks to schedule it. Then they couldn't find the scissors (!) and the Dr told me she was not very good at injecting the anesthetic. Front desk people are beyond rude and lackadaisical. Do not go here. read more

I have been seeing one particular nurse for yrs and she's great! God forbid you have an emergency and are not pregnant. After being in the ER the night prior I was told to f/u with my OB/GYN. The next morning I called and was never able to get through...I drove to the office (mind you I've been bleeding for 12 day with heavy clots) and was told I could wait for another 3hrs. I told the receptionist "how about tell the doctor to see me at that time over at the hospital"! Continuing to advocate for myself...I told them I need to see a medical professional. Got a nurse consult and am ultimately waiting to see a doctor. FYI- if you are not pregnant, it has been my experience that you will only see a nurse. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Like I'm at a loss for words when it comes to my experience with them. I have past history of emergency surgeries and issues with my reproductive system and it's like they don't care about you at all. I've had multiple medical events happen within the past couple of years where I should've been seen by my doctor in a couple days and it was a nightmare even trying to get them on the phone! On average, it takes like 60-75 minutes to schedule an appointment. I usually am not one to hold so much pain, grief and hate in my heart but it would be a disservice to not tell any of you to stay away from this place. A event happened recently and it was the final straw for me after giving them multiple chances. I'll spare you the details but I'm 26 and haven't been to any other facility so it wasn't until I talked to 5 other people that told me that the things I'm describing happened to me here, was insane. Like please, if you care about your life and your health at all, don't go to this facility or any "Signature OBGYN". I've never been so terrified at the fact that a medical facility doesn't care about you at all. I hope you read this and take it seriously because I know many other women have experienced similar issues. read more

I have been a patient at the Eldersburg office for 10 years. Never have been late once or had any no-shows. The past few years it seems they have grown a lot. Its impossible to speak to someone over the phone without waiting for 25 minutes on hold. I called the refill line 3 times and had my pharmacy contact them twice about filling a birth control prescription and they never got back to me. I finally got a hold of a person to speak to on the phone who told me they need to see you yearly to refill the prescription and I was not scheduled for a future appointment so that was why they hadn't filled it. Nobody had contacted me about appointments or told me this was the protocol. I went ahead and scheduled an appointment to see them so they could refill it. I live in Baltimore now and its about 40 minutes to Eldersburg. I ran into an accident on the way and I arrived at 11:19 and my appointment was for 11:05. I told them what happened and they still refused to see me, then asked if I wanted to reschedule. Needless to say I did not reschedule and will find a different practice. A side note: I'm a nurse in Baltimore at an oncology infusion center. I see my patients and figure out a way accommodate them even if they are an hour late. Unfortunately, it seems as if many of my fellow health care workers are lacking compassion and understanding these days. Save yourself the frustration and go to a differ practice than this one. read more

I am saddened to be leaving this review because I've been debating whether or not to even post at this point since they clearly will never change, but this morning was the last straw and I don't want any expectant mothers to have to go through the hell I have been dealing with for the past 6 months of my pregnancy. I know this review is lengthy, but it'll save you a BIG headache, so please bear with me. PS: Please read ALL reviews for this practice before you decide to make an appointment with these people. Just because they're in Howard County and they claim to be a "specialty practice of John Hopkins medicine" does not mean you are getting the care you should. There is a reason they have 2 and a half stars or less everywhere you look. They really are the WORST practice and they look at you and your baby like a dollar sign, not their patient. I am 25 years old and I'm currently pregnant with my first baby, meaning I have lots of questions and of course need some more mentoring / guidance than veteran mothers. From the very beginning, the doctors were very pushy about me getting a bunch of ridiculous tests and sonograms and every time I asked a question they made it seem like it was a bother to give me information and were very dismissive. Being a first time mom, I was gullible to all the dos and don'ts, and thought these recommended sonograms are the norm, but before I accepted, I wanted to make sure my insurance would cover the sonograms they were ordering, to which the practice said they verified with my insurance and I was approved for them. For my first appointment I was scheduled for an UNNECESSARY eight week transvaginal ultrasound that I had to pay $300 out of pocket for, and after that, they repeatedly suggested more sonograms and a NT scan because "my baby seemed to have some type of genetic disorder" although I was low risk due to my age and nobody in my family or my husband's family has any abnormalities or genetic disorders. (Side note: the way they let me know about my baby being at risk was VIA A VOICEMAIL AT WORK!!- are you serious? They didn't even have the decency to have me call in or set up an appointment to share the bad news, that's how IMPERSONAL they are) To keep it short, after paying almost $2,000 out of pocket for tests and sonograms, I was informed I am carrying a healthy baby girl, but they would need to continue monitoring her- then I got a $600 bill in the mail after a fourth sonogram and that's when I started to suspect they were just after my money. I requested a call from the billing department, which never came, until I had to reach out to them in writing. They informed me I could "apply for financial assistance, but I would need to still pay"... I was scheduled for a FIFTH sonogram at 26 weeks and after speaking with other expectant mothers, doctors, and doing additional research, I realized this really was not needed unless something was wrong with my baby. I called the practice and asked what this sonogram would be for and why it was needed. The person said they wanted to measure the baby... I told them I wanted to cancel this sonogram because I kept getting bills and the billing department is completely incompetent and unable to help by any means. They are discourteous and take weeks to reply. The person on the phone said she had cancelled my sonogram but I would still be able to come in for a regular check up with the doctor and I could discuss my concerns with her. This morning I drove all the way from Baltimore to the Columbia location and showed up at 9:50 for my 10am appt for them to tell me they rescheduled me for MARCH 18th instead of February 18th for my 4-week follow up. Although this was a scheduling error from the practice, they were very unapologetic and receptionist said unfortunately no doctor can see me today but they could do a 2pm appointment- so me taking off work again to come, wait to be seen, and be treated poorly. No practice manager was available to see me or discuss my experience with them and no follow up call has been made to see how they can make things right after THEIR mistakes. Clearly upset and annoyed at all the issues I have had with them, I decided not to reschedule at all and will be contacting BBB. I am currently in the process of requesting a transfer of care AT 6.5 months pregnant!!!!! So trust me when I tell you, avoid the headache and try to go to a smaller and organized practice. Don't let the name "Signature OB/GYN - John Hopkins Medicine" fool you. They should feel ashamed of themselves. This practice has made me feel unimportant at the most pivotal moment in my life; don't let them make you feel this way too. I've been going to this practice for over 30 years. When I went to my anual appointment, My Doctor informed me that I couldn't be seen and needed to be rescheduled because it was only 364 days since my last appointment and my insurance wouldn't coverer it . I've had the same insurance for 14 years. I explained that it was covered as my coverage isn't based on the calendar year. It resents January 1 and I could make an apointment any date in the new year. I was still told I needed to reschedule. One week later, I showed up for my new appointment 10 minutes late which was my fault. There was one person in the waiting room and they wouldn't see me. If you're considering using this practice, I recomend you look else where. read more

Amazing experience at Signature. The doctors are just so caring, patient, and informative. I had a complicated pregnancy full of bumps along the way but these doctors took amazing care of me and helped me to welcome my beautiful little girl into this world as safely as possible for both of us. They never once made me feel bad about calling when I had a concern and fully addressed them. When I delivered Dr. Kokkinakos was amazing and really gave me the extra encouragement I needed. He explained everything that was going on so I was never in the dark. I felt safe with them and I would absolutely recommend them. read more

This place is horrid. Nightmare highlights: - symptoms blown off - sonogram results blown off - returned for same problems 1 year later, strong armed a second sono. RADIOLOGY points out that i should have had an MRI for further study a year ago. Shocked that i was back. - returned with previous years results they failed to give me - midwife who took the appointment didnt understand terminology on the report Turns out I walked around FOR A YEAR with two tumors. Saw new Dr at a new practice and was in surgery within 2 werks from that point. This practice made me feel nuts, left me in pain for a year and cost me time off my fertility window. This clinic is unbelievably dysfunctional. I am a physician myself, therefore I would like to believe that I have a pretty reasonable set of expectations as far as my medical care is concerned. I do not even know where to begin describing my experience at this clinic. I have summarized a few points below that I think capture the overall experience . 1. A few weeks ago, the maternal-fetal medicine specialist that they had referred me to informed me that a critical structure was "absent" in my baby's brain, and also that there might be a cardiac structural abnormality. They advised me to get further testing done at a tertiary care center. The conversation with their doctor (MD Perinatal) was extremely rushed and did not answer many of my questions, so I thought it would be reasonable to call my OB at Signature to get perspective and reassurance. I sent them a message on MyChart, but Dr. Nelson was not available, and Dr. Kirkner-Vourlos refused to call me back and said that I would need to come in for an appointment even if I just needed to talk for a few minutes. I had just received terrible news and was extremely frightened and concerned. It is reasonable to expect a call from your OB under these circumstances, even if it costs them a few minutes of their time. I call my patients all the time with abnormal test results, this is NOT an unreasonable expectation. I wrote back to them a second time requesting a call back, and she called me the following morning. She was extremely irate and told me that she only had "one minute" to talk to me. She said that she has patients scheduled every 15 minutes and does not have time for long conversations. This is an incredibly inappropriate, dismissive, and insensitive way to address a patient who has just received incredibly distressing news, especially since I was not demanding an inordinate amount of her time. She provided no additional insight into the situation and rushed me off the phone. 2. When I later reviewed my visit notes written by the doctors at this practice, I found that their "documentation" (if you can call it that) consisted of one sentence and did not accurately describe any of my complaints. At one of the visits I had complained of severe abdominal pain with eating, 10 pound weight loss, and near-syncopal spells - NOT normal things for a pregnant woman. The visit note merely documented "Pt denies spotting, no concerns today". Considering that you see a different OB every time you come to this practice, it is extremely important to have accurate and complete documentation. When they omit important details and fail to document information appropriately, this means that the next doctor who sees you has no idea what was discussed at the previous visit, and the quality of medical care that you receive is adversely affected. 3. The maternal-fetal medicine practice (Maryland Perinatal) that they refer to leaves much to be desired. Their ultrasounds are poor quality with limited visualization. They are not up-front about the lack of visualization/poor resolution of the images, and in discussion with patients they make it seem as though there are critical structural abnormalities and defects, when in fact the poor resolution of their studies is what limits interpretation. 4. In light of the above-mentioned issues, I decided to switch to another OB practice. I was on hold with signature OB/GYN over 4 hours in total on Friday 4/15/22 in order to talk to someone about getting my medical records. I had been on hold without getting through multiple times earlier that week. I finally had to go there in person to pick up images of one of my scans that was stored on a flash drive. 5. I asked multiple times to discuss my experience with the practice manager. I was assured that she would call me back (Joyce Douglas), but she never did. This confirms my overall impression that this practice is poorly run, disorganized, and neither the management nor the doctors truly care about their patients. read more

It was fine a while ago yet recently something is going on with them. Grumpy on the phone, rude in person, or just can't be reached, left messages through online portal yet no reply after 48 hours. Called multiple times around 8:30 am on 7/10 and was told by the auto voice message that the office is closed, office hour is from 8am to 5pm M to T. In what universe 8:30 is not after 8am?!! I truly needed to find a good doctor. I read the reviews on here and decided to give it a try. It's been awful. You can never get through. You sit on hold for 10-15 minutes at a time. I have been trying to get a surgery date for a hysterectomy for three weeks now. When I call, I get Mona's voicemail. She doesn't return your call. I was told the delay was because of the doctor's schedule. Called back today and was told it is because of the hospitals schedule. Someone needs to figure out how to coordinate schedules. Any doctors office that cannot return calls the same day or call in a prescription refill the same day doesn't deserve to have my as a client. When I first started going here in 2008 my doctor was responsive and it was fairly easily to get an appointment, now it's the exact opposite. I really need to find a new doctor after these past few appointments. I have stayed so long because she is good once you see her face to face and she has been an excellent surgeon as well. I have a condition which has required frequent MRIs and ultrasounds. After having these tests done I sometimes have to wait up to a week to get a call regarding my results even though the radiology company sends them over within 24 hours. This last time I promptly got a voicemail from my doctor to call her, I returned her call within hours and its now it's been 72 hours and I still havent heard back from her. This is often the case here. I sometimes get no call at all but instead a letter in the mail with my results and instructions to make an appointment. I dont think this is the way patients should be treated. The practice has just grown too large and they are still accepting new patients so in turn the customer service sucks. The support staff is often irritable you can tell they are overworked. I hope to find a smaller practice with more focus on patients. read more

Very large practice. I had many complication during my pregnancy and was always able to get an appointment same day (sometimes this required multiple calls before actually speaking to a nurse who was always able to find a way to fit me in - even when front desk/scheduling said there was not availability). Wait time was not too bad c I saw multiple drs in the practice. While they all answered my questions, only Dr Suraita (sp?) freely gave information/advice without me having to ask. First trimester scan and anatomy scan were not in-house. I assumed that they were b/c this is such a large practice, but no all scans are done either at Ho Co General (always booked was never able to get an appt), Johns Hopkins or University of MD Medical center. At 18 weeks pregnant I felt weird pressure and back ache and went in (again same day appt) and was checked and assured that everything was fine and it was just the weight of the twins. two weeks later I had the anatomy scan at UMMC and they found I had a short cervix and I was admitted to hospital for monitoring. All in all, I was there 7 weeks and no one from the practice contacted me. Also, the practice changed names and sent me no notification. For future pregnancies I will choose a different practice that will be able to offer more personal care. read more

I've been going to Signature for the past five years, and I've discovered that finding the practitioner(s) you like makes all the difference. I had some difficulty initially getting messages to doctors and having forms completed, but in the past year this appears to be resolved and I've been able to get through to either a nurse or have my message/e-mail returned same or next day (if not urgent). They are also good at getting you in for same day appointments when needed, often within an hour or two. They have OBs and Certified Nursing Midwifes in the practice. I went with the OBs. Dr. Hall and Dr. Kokkinakos are wonderful. One of the midwives actually attended our birth because things progressed so quickly, and she was so amazing and comforting. So you really can't go wrong when choosing between the OBs or Midwives because you will get compassionate care either way. I loved that we were able to form a personal relationship with our doctor in a large practice. We also appreciated the support we received from the ultrasound techs when we had a few scares. It really helped us feel at ease during anxious times. If you are interested in a natural childbirth, they are supportive and I didn't receive any pressure from staff at Signature or the hospital for unwanted interventions. read more

Worst ob/gyn practice to provide care to pregnant women. They almost wanted to kill my wife. They have only two good midwives: Gennene & Nora, but the problem is that the pregnant women doesn't get to have preferred midwife to deliver the baby. My wife had bad luck to have midwife Stiffany to deliver the baby whom was not courteous or passionate whereas she actually failed to remove the placenta all at once & never checked on my wife's health afterward. My wife had infection then fever and suffered for a week after that then a doctor from the clinic discovered the problem & fixed it with d&c operation. So please avoid this practice, you may try University of Maryland Medical Center. read more

I have had to wait over two weeks for a call in response to my countless messages. I needed my birth control re-filled; to me this is an urgent matter. I find myself constantly disrupting my body because my refills aren't being taken care of. MULTIPLE TIMES I have had to wait weeks while calling every day to just get in contact with a doctor to send a refill to cvs for the prescription. This office simply does not care for their patients.. my mother and sister have had similar issues. I can't imagine if the matter was more urgent. Do not use this office. I've only seen the midwives, but can't say enough fantastic things. Both throughout my pre-natal appointments and into the birth of my daughter. Nora was simply incredible and I will never forget her magnificence, patience and compassion during the birth of my daughter. I wanted an unmedicated birth and Nora truly helped me get there. Nine months later and I am still moved by Nora's dedication during my daughter's birth. Regarding appointment scheduling, I always just scheduled my next appt at the end of the previous appt and I didn't have any issues. I also needed multiple forms filled out (for short term disability and to become a milk donor) and again, no issues. read more

You are going to wait on hold for up to 45 minutes if not longer EACH time you call EVEN IF ITS AN URGENT MEDICAL QUESTION AND YOU CHOOSE THAT OPTION. I like the two doctors I see and it's the only reason I've gone to them still. I have been on hold for up to 2 hours for either just waiting for my phone call to be picked up, getting wrongly transferred to them having to hold again or my call not being picked up... you name it. I have been very disappointed with my experience here. I made an appointment for birth control complications and was never seen by a doctor & only seen by a midwife. I also didn't receive any physical examination they just took my weight & blood pressure then told me what I was experiencing was normal, but how can that be true with an exam to confirm? I was still having the same problem for a month after my appointment so I rescheduled to get my birth control removed. I had to wait another month for my appointment then they canceled it the day before!!!! Now I have had to call them 4 times and can't get off hold to reschedule the appointment that they canceled. While yes the hold time was a little longer , the customer service was truly amazing and you can tell they are doing all they can. Every other gynecologist I called did not have appointments until months from now, signature got me in the very next day. If you have a little patience there is nothing wrong with this office! Every time I go in I see a different OB. They have never been on time so I've had to call by boss to let them know I'll be in later than expected repeatedly. The receptionist staff has zero empathy and does little to help you. I had a miscarriage and called in every hour to try to reach a doctor or midwife. NO ONE could help me and just took down my number and said they would call me back when they got a chance. I was passing TISSUE and having serious cramps and ended up having to go to the ER to be seen... awful practice mainly because of the lack of empathy and help I received on the phone.
