I have had some really great yoga classes here. The staff is super friendly. The yoga room and…read morethe rest of the facility are very clean. There's an excellent sound system and colored ambient lights that are a nice touch. I like the feel of the thick floor in the yoga room. It looks similar to a dance studio, with mirrors, and they were a little to get used to for me, but if that's your thing, they are there. They do help you see your positioning, but I don't always want to lol. Even the props room is well-lit, aesthetic, and organized. The 6 or so classes I have tried have been Slow Flow with Leanne. She is such a good instructor, very positive and encouraging, but also motivating you to challenge yourself. The routines have had excellent variety and scope, and I have done yoga moves in her classes I have never done before! She is able to give insights into what the pose is doing and small goals to tweak it for your best practice. It's been challenging, but not so hard or overwhelming that I want to quit (well, except once lol). AND she plays very good music which is a big plus. I have found myself really looking forward to this class. It has been filling up in there, and there's no spot reservation, so arrive early if you want more placement options. I have Well Hub, and do yoga at two other places, and they are all different. The vibe here is a stop for busy people to get in their yoga. It's modern, clean, efficient, fitness-minded, vibes young (but all ages present), and is not overly "woo woo", if ykwim. As I understand it, Slow Flow is the easiest of the active yoga classes at Yoga Six because it's fully guided and the pacing allows you time to learn and master positions. Some attendees have told me they also like the Signature Warm class, which is a guided non-varying routine, and Power Flow. I haven't tried them yet, but I plan to, as well as Restore. No one is going to hate on you if you can't do something, so don't be afraid to try it. It's your practice, after all. Namaste!

There are so many different types of yoga, and in Ann Arbor you can find them all. I've tried about…read moreevery type of yoga out there, and can finally say I have found my yoga "home" with The Yoga Room. Christy's Vinyasa style of yoga works for me, taking me right to my edge of challenge, always introducing something I need to work on, yet allowing me to flow through the movements without being so difficult that it becomes frustrating. Her use of low lights and great, low-level music allows me to focus inward and let go of any other thoughts. I also like how you need to remember the sequence because Christy frequently has you go through it a few times on your own. This is mentally challenging as well because the sequences can sometimes be complicated, but I love it! If I get lost I just do what feels right. Christy occasionally helps students to go deeper into the poses, but mostly you're on your own, so the Vinyasa class is for students who are familiar with yoga and do not need a lot of detailed instruction. The space is small, and the ceiling on the lower side, so one of my taller friends felt a little cramped. I like the intimacy, and being 5' 6", the room works fine for me. I guess my only complaint is that it doesn't last a little longer! I would enjoy a 1.25 hour class, with a little longer relaxation at the end, but overall, I am happy I found my yoga "home."

I love what the Hatha classes at the Yoga Room have done for me since I started in early 2013. In…read morethe past I tried Pilates, Crossfit, Personal Trainers, Walking, Ellipticals... and I have never had the same results and transformation I have seen in my body in the past months with Christy's classes. If you had asked me 9 months ago about doing yoga I would have laughed and said, me? not going to happen... in fact, I have known Christy for over 13 years and had never considered doing one of her sessions... little did I know what I had been missing on all this time! After going through a really hard year 2012 and putting on a considerable amount of weight (60+lbs) I had hit rock bottom and needed to make some changes to my lifestyle. I started to modify my diet and make some other changes outside of my comfort zone with positive results, so I thought, well, why not, let's give Christy a call and see if she has a spot in her class for me (man was she surprised!). All it took was one class and I was hooked! Christy's gentle instructions walk you through a routine with ease even if it is your first class. The low lights and intimate setting make it all about you and your practice and encourage you to focus on yourself, not your surroundings, and work at your own pace. Now I do not miss a class for anything, and that is a commitment I have never made to any other type of "exercise" routine.
