Not ideal when about to cross the pond and hit humidity and bare casper the friendly ghost pale skin to the world, but sometimes comfort grub is just what a girl needs. Mince and tatties was on the agenda so a wander to the butchers was in order. A lovely, bright clean shop, friendly staff with some amazing looking meat. There was so much temptation and some purchases were made as well as the mince. Got to love a shop which makes you buy more than you want, even if it is butcher meat rather than pretty dresses. The mince was great. Proper beef mince and there was virtually no fat running out of it as it cooked. It looked and tasted great and as a result I'm off buying supermarket meat and sticking with my local butchers. Well worth a visit for food that tastes as it should :-)

The best thing about this butchers is the value for money. Not only are you sold superior goods, but at normal prices - why would you buy meat elsewhere? The main things to try are the sausages and pies. Both are truly brilliant and well worth the pitiful amount of money you will have to pay for them. I've never seen a butchers in my whole life this busy and this is because it is a very good butchers, especially when you consider it in terms of value for money. Prices start at just over £3 per kilo for ribs and the first boneless item comes in at just under £4 per kilo for some pork shoulder. As you move up the quality of the meat the price remains very good value for money as it moves up with the quality and this is what makes this place so popular. I've bought an amazing lamb rack, steaks, sausages and short ribs from here. All of which have been outstanding. Firstly, the sausages. Crombie's are famous for them! And they are delicious. Well worth the trip just to stock up on sausages. Everything else, the quality of the meet has been great. I've recently purchased a sous vide machine so anything that can be slow cooked for hours is going from Crombie's butcher straight into my machine for hours on end. One thing, it's expensive compared to what you'd get from the grocery stores. I've found the quality to be way better but be warned- it might put a dent in your wallet. Great selection of marinades, ready to cook pies and other savoury pastries, and service is always friendly and helpful.

Their sausages are widely regarded as amongst the best in the UK and they supply lots of local restaurants with them to keep the punters happy. There are many different varieties to choose from and they range from the traditional (pork, chipolatas, Scotch beef) to the exotic (boar, pork and stilton is an inspired and tasty combination). Asides from sausages, they do the usual butcher cuts of meat (steaks, lamb etc) and meals for you to heat at home if you can't be bothered cooking. Most of the meat is locally sourced and everything is incredibly good quality. It's just a shame that they close at 5.30pm, far too early for those of us with office jobs.

There is also meat and seafood, I loved seeing the fresh caught crab on a bed of seaweed and hard to find meat like venison for sale.

Whilst many of the goods aren't that cheap the entry level goods here are still of very high quality and unless you really want to treat your taste buds should suffice. The guys that run the shop are great - always chatty and friendly. My main draw for here is the lunch time rolls for a little over a pound. Considering the chain places and coops etc can charge almost three pounds for a disappointing dry sandwich, this is a bargain. Nothing fancy just white rolls salad and whatever tempts you. They have bargain bins outside the shop which are always worth a browse. If you are passing pop in for a browse and a chat, you wont be disappointed.
