After ten years and my shower door going "whomp-whomp" every time it was opened or closed, I decided it was time to look for a new one. I started with Lowe's and Home Depot. Neither store had the expertise on hand to answer any of my questions. Next, I made the trip down to Sterling to visit a glass company. The receptionist (?) was eating her lunch at her open desk, there were very few shower doors to view, then she unwisely called me "sweetie", and then I was gone. I spent a lot of time on the Internet getting information on what I wanted. I took the ten-mile drive to Jefferson, Md to Shower Door Experts. And they were true to their name: shower door experts! From the minute I walked in, Devin was so helpful. And so many doors to check out! Who knew shower doors could look like this? He had all his facts and figures at his fingertips. I was going from an aluminum "framed" door to a "semi-frameless" door. Devin had another gentleman in the shop step through the shower door I finally decided on to make sure my husband, who is 6' 4" could easily fit into it. We settled on a price and the time another gentleman, Tom, would come out to accurately measure. Less than two weeks later, my custom-made door was installed by Alex and Kevin, who did a first-rate bang-up job. Mats on the floor, tools on the mats, vacuumed up any excess mess. When they walked out, except for my beautiful new semi-frameless shower door, one never would have known that they had been there. I'm a contractor in Marin County California. Went back to Baltimore to do a bath remodel for my parents. At 91, I'm sure my father still thinks he can do it all but I said he might have to sit this one out. We do pretty major remodels out here and when it comes to glass we use only one company. Tom and his guys could easily thrive in this high-end atmosphere in the Bay area. Everything about the process that I'm used to was performed by Tom, Devin and their installers Mike and Mark. Their measurements were right on the money, when it came to the install, they had the floor protection that I was hoping for, they put almost nothing against freshly painted walls and if they did, something was behind it to protect the walls. Being a second floor bath, they had to navigate large sheets of shower glass up and around a couple newel posts and landings and seeing them take up the first panel clearly showed that this wasn't their first dance. When my clients ask me who they should use for certain subs, I am adamant when it comes to tile, stone and glass. Everything else can be fixed for the most part without a huge expense. A meticulous friend recommended this company for a new glass shower enclosure in a small corner. Shopping only online and not even visiting the showroom, we were pleased that Devin was such a great help to us, contemplating between a space-saving nearly frameless sliding door versus a swing door and whether or not to use square clips vs. U-channel. People think clips are the only true frameless shower but honestly we are thrilled Devin recommended and we chose the U-Channel on our sliding Serenity enclosure - it's gorgeous and matches the chrome schuler trim around our tile edge.
