Sitting on the porch by the river at SSB

Short Story Brewing is a not only a good place to get a variety of microbrews, but they have some of the best smash burgers in Morgantown. Take your libation and brew out on the deck for a great view of the Monongahela River and if you're lucky you can hear a live performance from the amphitheater up river.

Atmosphere here is unmatched! They have such an amazing patio over looking the river and WVU's campus. Diner burger was good, but not good enough for them to call themselves "The burger place". I wish there were some more fun, innovative burgers on the menu. None of the sandwiches come with a side, and you also can't buy a side after you purchase your meal which I found to be strange. The menu on the Instagram did not match the menu in the restaurant which was also bit disappointing. Next time, I would skip the food and just come for a drink. Service was fine, not bad but nothing to rave about.

Views are unbeatable. Beers are innovative and tasty - I especially liked the sours! Perfect for a beer (or two) and a laid back, chill vibe.

A small but good offering of beer styles all done right. They are a quality over quantity venue. The food is limited again but it is all excellent. The service is friendly and knowledgeable. The ambience is nice up to date and relaxed with a riverside setting. Outside seating along the river is great in good weather. In bad weather stay inside and still enjoy the view.

A couple of issues. First, the beer. Just not good. There are not a lot of options in Morgantown, so by comparison, it's fine. But in actual practice, the beer is bland. This is our second time here and both times same result. Very limited selection too. Some beers are on the menu twice, with just slight variations. Meh. Second, the people. Not friendly. The sever was not interested at all. The other patrons were standoffish too. My wife and I aren't hipsters. Felt let like we needed to apologize for coming in. Definitely don't recommend.

Beers with a distinctive point of view that are memorable. Friendly, helpful staff. And, the patty melt and waffle fries were super tasty. Couple all that with a great view of the river and WVU campus, and these folks have really got something going on.

Beer is excellent. I purchased a couple of four packs to have at home. Even from the can the beer is excellent.

For a place that specializes in burgers mine was flat, dry, flavorless and overcooked.

When we got there, we were sat in good order and everything was quite nice. However, we realized…read morethere was going to be some interesting developments when the server came by and he seemed a little nervous, but that's understandable. In any case we placed our orders, I ordered the breakfast platter special, which was fried chicken and biscuits with country sausage gravy my wife ordered the eggs Benedict my daughter for her birthday ordered the French toast with two eggs and my son ordered the chicken and waffles. Talking first about the chicken and waffles. I've come to see that many locations offer chicken and waffles. This being about average for what I would consider chicken and waffles as it was a small filet cut in a half upon a very thin flat waffle, which would've done better to be a Belgian waffle with a much fluffier plump chicken filet. My son did enjoy it but when he finished it the server came by and he says did you enjoy that? Was it good, it must've been good because you ate everything! Then let's discuss my wife's eggs Benedict, which she thoroughly loved. However, the ham looked like it was sliced deli ham for a sandwich instead of Canadian bacon or a little thicker slice of country ham. It's not my call, as my wife said she enjoyed it. My daughter enjoyed her stuffed French toast and egg. Everything was cooked to her liking and she said it had a good flavor and of all four dishes that certainly was the best of the four. as for the last dish, my Sriracha sausage gravy, fried chicken and biscuit with home fries, the jury is still out as the home fries came out a little overdone and cold. The sausage gravy looks like somebody spread it on with a paintbrush, and it wasn't very warm. The chicken was warm and did taste good and the biscuit was good, but it made no sense when the server said, it comes smothered in sausage gravy. Take a look at the picture, and it looks more like a couple tablespoons of gravy on each biscuit with the chicken. We did have a good time and the ambience of the place was very nice, especially seated along the windows looking at the snow outside and perhaps we'll give it another shot at a later date. Overall, nothing over the top but nothing to make us fear coming back either. It was just kind of middle of the road, but I am glad that the nicest dish and the best presentation went to my daughter for her 20th birthday. At least that was a saving grace as well as the lunch with the movie, listening to the various antics and chatter coming from the server.

Service was subpar. I asked the lady at the counter how she was doing and didn't get a response. I…read moresaid thank you multiple times while ordering and didn't get a response. Girlfriend asked a few questions about coffee and her responses were very vague and not helpful. Prices were also not transparent. Menu at front counter said breakfast sandwich for $6 with any bread and any toppings. That $6 is for just eggs... I got bacon and cheddar cheese on my sandwich and it came out to $9. Girlfriend's breakfast tacos said 2 for $8. She got sausage, American cheese, and peppers/onions. Those ended up coming to $12. Coffee was nothing special. We both asked for cream and sugar and both got black cold brews instead. Had to add our own cream and sugar (cream was empty on the side counter). There were a lot of people in there making it seem busy, but as we looked around we noticed most were on laptops working with just a coffee. Only a few people had food. One lady ordered a green drink, we watched her go back up to the counter and give it back. She stayed there and continued working on her laptop with no food/drink. This is a social media coffee shop. Loud music, seating like you would have in a living room with small tables, and a very California/hipster vibe. I would've given it three stars, because my breakfast sandwich was good, if not for the person that took our order at the front counter having zero personality.
