This is what happens when you let kids run your business. Visited Jackson lake last year and inquired about renting a wave runner. The wave runners were out of commission at that time but we inquired about the specifics anyway $500 cash deposit plus a credit card?! Um okay . (Oh and you can't use their ATM to get cash for the deposit, luckily I'm sure most families are walking around with 1000's of dollars in cash in their pocket when they go for a weekend on the lake.) This year we had wave runners lined up to bring to the lake but the deal fell through at the last minute when our tow vehicle had mechanical problems. I remembered that the marina rented them, so I had my wife give them a call while I was at work. She called me to explain that the person she spoke with was extremely rude on the phone and said we won't be renting from them. Apparently they aren't interested in having customers actually rent their "barely working" crap because he told my wife that it required a $700 cash deposit now- not $500 like the website says, and that they would not rent to persons without water craft experience. Ok, we've rented/ rode and driven wave runners a handful of times at other lakes which my wife communicated to them. He snapped back "well I don't know how many times you've visited other lakes, do I?" He then started running down a veritable quiz of water safety and regulations that he expected my wife to know. "What's the minimum depth you can take a wave runner?" I don't know, a reasonable depth? 2 feet? Isn't that information you can "run down" with the customer when we are signing the paperwork? If you have to pass a watermanship test to rent their stuff, they should put that on their website so people can go to the local community college, take their WAVERUNNER 101" course, get their certificate and have it framed and ready for the 19 year old kid with zero life experience at the dock. Needless to say, I wasn't too happy to hear that, and knew immediately that they were just trying to get my wife off the phone and save them from having to do something other than share instagram pics of them flexing their 12" biceps. When I called them back to inquire about the rentals, the guy was impatient and audibly irritated by my phone call. He sighed a heavy sigh when I asked them if any wave runners were available this weekend. He said "I'll have to check......".and sat there. I broke the extended silence and said...."okay go check". He said they were available but I needed $500 cash deposit (price goes down when a man calls apparently) and said that I needed prior experience. I said okay, I've driven them before. That was it. I apparently had the melodic voice of a seasoned waver runner rentalist because I didn't get the impromptu quiz. I then let him know that I was following up on a call he had with my wife. The call de escalated from there when I challenged his wavering approach to customers and lack of practical sense. He promptly hung up and that was the end. I guess that's why it's Friday afternoon and nobody has bothered to rent their equipment on either a Saturday or Sunday- in the middle of summer. Yeah, they're really tearing it up out there. Look elsewhere for equipment rentals, this place is a joke. read more
