One morning we found a note on our door notifying about an impending inspection next week. Fire code compliance is important, it said. Make sure your windows, doors, vent shafts and other major orifices are not blocked in case of a fire, it stated in a menacing tone. And heavens help you if your park your bike under the stair case, your bike is a fire hazard. We will be entering 30% of the apartments, it warned. We stayed home, we cleaned up, we waited all day, no one ever showed up. The note on the door next day said the inspection was cancelled and rescheduled for next week. This would repeat three or four times. Knowing Shelby, we took time off work and stayed home each time, fully expecting Shelby to barge in, fire marshals by her side, open the door wide, let our cat out, and then write us up for every fire code violation known to a man since prehistoric times. After the fourth notice, no one showed up either. We fully expected a fifth one, but it never materialized. We asked Shelby the next day how the Fire inspection went. We passed it with flying colors, she said, avoiding eye contact. With her extensive background in student housing, I wonder if this was her idea of keeping everyone on their toes ? Who knows...On a completely unrelated note, a few days after the last notice a fire alarm went off in the building. It was loud and obnoxious, it was reaching every corner of the building, it lasted a good portion of the day and ear plugs would not help.

Just before we got down here it was taken. "THANKS" We had to settle for third floor apartment with all carpet. "THANKS AGAIN" First couple days were good, first water leak, fire sprinkler system pipe busted in a closet. Lucky us, a few months later the kitchen sink sprung a leak, the maintenance crew came to fix it and broke water pipe underneath the sink. Water water everywhere... During the winter, we had an invite a guests, the roaches moved in. We keep our place clean so we knew it wasn't us.. as time went on the roaches just got bigger. maintenance was called the Came and sprayed the apartment. Now is the time for us to leave the apartment because our lease was over and we didn't want to live with uninvited Guests. They expected our apartment to look as good as it did when we moved in.. we had a dog that said there. They wanted to keep our security deposit plus the charge another1400 to replace the carpet. We are fighting the amount charge for that crazy end of lease. We got it down to $600 and still fighting it.. Be warranted places that's because it was when we moved in.
