There is limited free parking on the street but you have to move your vehicle before a certain time to avoid a fine. We were disappointed we couldn't get a WiFi signal anywhere in the hotel (room, lobby, restaurant) but only being there one night, it wasn't a big problem for us. The staff was very friendly and quite helpful with offering suggestions on directions and what to see based on our input....and we were so glad we followed her advice since the locations she sent us too were wonderful! If ever in the area, I'd stay here again.

The themed…read moreroom was impeccably appointed with a very comfortable bed, and the view from our room was beyond stunning. Every breakfast we had was ample and delicious. Additionally, we had dinner one evening at Ferndale that was expertly prepared and served by the proprietors, Jon and Alex. It was a lovely alternative to going into town, and the fresh halibut, scallops and prawns that Jon cooked for us was one of the best meals we had ever had in Ireland, not to mention the fabulous chocolate mousse and deconstructed Bailey's Irish Cream cheesecake he made us for dessert! Last, but certainly not least, Jon and Alex were absolutely the best hosts! They managed to make us feel like family, yet pampered guests at the same time-No easy feat! Their attention to detail in terms of our comfort, and their wit and warmth were a winning combination. We will most definitely be returning!

Arrived in Westport half way thru a 14 day excursion and found ourselves at the Clew Bay Hotel…read more After staying in some very nice B&B's this was a wonderful change. The hotel is a real gem. It has wonderful modern and comfortable rooms, all with a great made to irbreakfast or buffet breakfast menu, a great attached bar and the MADDENS restaurant that has great food and a full bar. The real find is that the staff, while many were off on a "cancer challenge" with the neighboring towns, have been beyond helpful from getting some laundry done, to getting us a taxi when most drivers were off on Sunday. I really wanted a Bloody Mary and the staff hurriedly ran out to the market to get some tomato juice to make me one. I can't say enough about the hospitality.

The hotel has been through major renovations over the past years. The layout is a bit quirky as is the case with many of the older hotels, but honestly, that makes it far more interesting than staying in a corporate chain hotel, where every room is the same as the next and there is not much character to the place. The hotel is within easy walking distance of restaurants, pubs, and shops, which is a huge plus as Westport is a popular destination and becomes very busy especially during the summer season. The original Clew Bay Hotel opened in 1959, the current rendition bears no similarities to the original other than the warm hospitality. However, I would avoid rooms overlooking James Street. The room rate is very reasonable and includes a full breakfast served in the dining room overlooking the river. They also offer free wifi, parking is 3 Euro per day in the lot behind the hotel however one evening we were lucky to get a space at 6 pm, so assume there are other car parks around town. You can purchase the parking pass at reception.
