However, over the years I learned, even though its a bit out of my way since I live a town over, to just go straight to Shoppers Vineyard for those harder to find bottles. This past weekend, I was in a rush and wanted to pick up a bottle of Japanese whiskey and stopped at my local spot Mason Cellar, which had none and said they might not for some time since they sell out so quickly. Not wanting to show up at a party empty handed, I opted to be a few minutes late and head to Shoppers. Low and behold, not only did they have the bottle I wanted, but three other bottles I never even tried before. Last but not least, they actually have pretty good pricing as well. Place is kind of hidden after some RR tracks so unless you happen to "find it" or are from the area, chances are you have little recollection that this place exists. Inside has a good selection of wines/spirits/beers and their prices are decent. Until I happened to find other places with a bigger selection, this place did do the job. Their prices are hit/miss. Wow. I'd never ventured further than the Home Depot in Clifton when getting off of Rt. 3 but after a Google search trying to hunt down some adult beverages from Greece (I'm heading there later in the year and wanted to get my drink on to see what's what) - I found out about Shopper's Vineyard. (And it's just a stone's throw from the Home Depot, too.) As you pull up you might want to make sure your doors are locked and your wallet are still in your possession - it's a bit dark and seedy... but you walk in and it's a thing of beauty. I thought I frequented some damn fine places with large beer and wine selections but there's just a lot more to choose from here. I went in with an empty shopping cart telling myself to remain composed and only drop $20-$30 and I left with close to $100. (I'm totally going to have to lie at my next AA meeting.) read more

I was in the area today, so I stopped in to buy a bottle of wine for my dad that I know he likes (Vietti Barbera), and that winesearcher said this place carried. Yup, I found it. In perhaps the most disorganized and sloppy liquor/wine store I've been to in ages. Crap all over the place, no real organization, surly staff, dust everywhere-and I'd probably drop a one star on them except the prices were decent-not great, but decent. Please, provide plastic bags for people who buy a few bottles at a time-paper don't cut it, folks, we like a handle to make it easier to carry. Great parking, though. read more

Shoppers Vineyard is a huge liquor store with a very nice selection of wine, beer and hard alcohol. The store is spotless and well organized, so it's easy to find whatever you are looking for. Prices seem very low, too. My husband and I came here and we were able to find a moderately-priced bottle of wine from our favorite region of France, as well as a rock-botton-priced bottle of Chilean wine. Very good selection and probably the lowest prices in the area. That's saying a lot since there's a Stew Leonard's around the corner and a Bottle King in neighboring Bloomfield. In addition to having low prices every day, they run lots of specials on wine and liquor. If you go in there just looking to stock up, and don't have a specific tequila, vodka, whiskey, etc in mind, you'll find yourself saving LOTS of money. They have a great selection of beer, imported and domestic craft alike. Two full aisles plus about 5 fridges of craft. Of course, they also have a few more of the Big 3, but Shopper's Vineyard isn't as consumed with trying to appease the Big 3 as others. Wine selection isn't as big as other places, but it's still quite respectable; they are also very accommodating. I've also been able to find wine here that wasn't available nearby. Keep in mind I'm not a big wine guy by any means. They also run tastings almost every Saturday, I believe. I've been able to try a number of beers from Captain Lawrence, quite a few different wines, and also took advantage of a free Stella Artois glass with 6-pack purchase. On a note so good note, their sake selection is dwindling. They used to have an entire section with about 20 different sake of all grades. It's less than half that right now. They're also down to 1 or 2 cachaca when they used to have 4. On a very positive note, and the reason why I finally decided to send in a review - the staff was really helpful with my Small Business Saturday purchase. In fact, I've been going to them for the past 3 years for Small Business Saturday, but this year they were extra helpful. They'll continue to get my business for a while. read more

One of my favorite wine and spirits shops around. When they have sales, their prices are unbeatable. I got a handle of JP wisers rye today for $17.99 a bottle. Anywhere else, it's $30-35 a bottle. They also have wines from all over the world and priced from $3.99 a bottle to over $1000. They also carry a huge selection of craft beers and also cigars. I am hesitant to write a review of this place because this is my secret place where I get all kinds of single malt scotches you can't find anywhere else. I live about 20 minutes away, but I make the trip out here whenever I can. Not only do they have by far the best selection of single malt scotch whisky in the area, but they also have some of the best prices around. They also have an extensive selection of bourbons and other whiskeys, and a ton of craft beers. The staff is really helpful and one time they helped me select a good high-proof bourbon as a birthday gift for a friend. Oh and I guess I should also mention the wine....huge selection and they have tastings sometimes too. We've been going to Shoppers Vineyard for over 5 years and it had always been great; competitive pricing, had to find items and pleasant, knowledgeable staff who made spending money here worth the trip. Over the past few months I've noticed unpleasant changes especially in the employees. They are almost (if not entirely) different and they're the complete opposite of their predecessors. Rude, arrogant and not helpful in the least. They seem to think they're the only store around. This was my last time shopping there. read more

Great stock, they usually have what I'm looking for, and on top of that, they usually offer it at the best price around. This store is generally great if you shop at the store itself. The biggest strength is that they carry a wide variety of liquors at competitive prices. Some of these items are very hard to find elsewhere locally. Wine selection is just okay, with a few occasional great wines at good prices, but usually it's underwhelming. Service is disinterested and impersonal - whatever. I really only need help when I can't find something on the shelves, and I just want to buy what I'm looking for, not solicit recomendations or make new friends. Their website, however, is a den of deception and lies. I found a good deal on an expensive and desirable 2010 Barolo, but the website showed only one bottle available. I ordered it and awaited notice of availability for pickup. A full day and a half later, I was told the 2010 wasn't available and the "distributor" only had 2011, which they would sell me for the same price as the 2010. Such a deal, right? Um, no. About a dozen local dealers are selling the 2011 for $30 less. Bait and switch much? Even though they were now aware that they didn't have the 2010, it's still there listed on the website. And now two bottles, not just one, are available. Not sure why they're blaming the distributor when allegedly they're supposed to be listing what they already have in stock, on their shelves, in the actual store or at least in their storage. Don't trust their wine-searcher.com five-star rating! (Apparently wine-searcher has its own trustworthiness issues as well.) At least they notified me of the discrepancy before I drove to Clifton, but it still makes me suspicious of their practices. It seems like they're trying to prey upon the unaware and uninformed. Shoppers Vineyard is hands down my favorite liquor store in the area. The physical store is huge and they have a massive selection of wine, liquor, beer (regular and craft), and mixers. They have wines from every country including specialty varieties such as Kosher Wines. Great selection of wines that are Kosher for Passover with even better prices. They have more varieties of vodka then I knew existed including many flavors. The hubby had a field day searching through the craft beers. And they even sell two different brands of ginger beer (non-alcoholic) which can be very difficult to find. I checked two different grocery stores, and couldn't find it. The staff is friendly and will look in the back if the shelf is empty. You can order on their website, which I've done on occasion to lock in a great price. Make sure to sign up for the club card (you don't get a physical card) to get additional unadvertised discounts. read more

I have nothing but praise for for this business. From the large selection of easy search items, to the placement of the order. This was a brewed in Prague beer. I was so happy to talk to actual, live persons who were knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. They were more than accommodating to my personal requests. The order arrived on a timely basis with advisement for me to track the order along the way. I expected the usual print out of birthday greetings, this being for a birthday and was pleased to find a very nice gift card with the special wishes inside, nicely done!!! I was amazed at how two cases of bottled beer could be packed so ingeniously so as to traverse multiple UPS delivery points and arrive unscathed. I ordered a case of wine online from the website three weeks ago as a Christmas gift. I gave them a call today, as I need it by Friday and the status of my order was still pending. I spoke with a girl who told me they got my wine in yesterday and I would receive it tomorrow. I then receive an email 6 hours later stating they were unable to get my wine and to call them with how I would like to proceed. THREE WEEKS LATER, and only AFTER I called to get an update. The girl on the phone did not want to hear my complaint and did not seem to care at all. She just did not respond. Why would they wait three weeks to let me know that they could not get my wine? Now I have called every liquor store in the surrounding areas and cannot find it anywhere. Also, like previous complaints that I see, I received the email with the free shipping for a $150+ order. I also was unable to use that coupon. I would never suggest anyone use Shoppers Vineyard's online ordering. The worst customer service and three weeks later they do not have the product. read more

This only has to do with their website. Stated free shipping if you sign up on email. I did. Went to order some wine and was told at checkout you needed $150 order to use code. Then I loaded cart with $151 and went to checkout as a guest. Said I needed to join and guests can't use code. Strike two. Tried to sign up as quest and couldn't get cursor to work in the space. Worked everywhere else. They don't really want you to get free shipping. A scam? I was afraid if I ordered they would not have what I wanted or substitute. They have several negative reviews on substitution and very crabby workers. I would only shop in person if I were you. read more

This place of business is horrible. Scam!! Bait and Switch. Most spirits can be found much cheaper elsewhere. Be extremely careful when dealing with their internet sales. Ordered a bottle of spirits from online and waited 3days to get notice it was ready for pickup. Drive there and waited 30min for stock guy to get the product. Once it was brought to the counter, I noticed it was not what i ordered. Some Old rude Geezer (ball head, with glasses) tells me its new labeling and this is what I ordered. You could tell he wasnt well liked, even by the stores staff. Well another guy took over and stated it was a internet mistake and what i thought i was going to get is now $10 more. Well I opted to get a refund. This is not a place where you want to spend your hard earned money. Take my advice. Stay away from this place. I love shopping at Shoppers Vineyard. They have everything and their prices are very good. I would have given a 5 star rating except for the following experiences. As I said, I enjoy shopping at this store except for checkout time. There is a short middle aged woman with glasses at the register who is the most UNFRIENDLY person that I have ever met. She will NEVER ask how you're doing or respond to you, asking how she's doing. On A few occasions, when I asked for a duplicate receipt or made other requests, she said that it wasn't possible in a very nasty way. When I asked for someone else for help, they immediately addressed the situation with absolutely no problems at all. If she doesn't feel like working, maybe she should stay home. I'll continue to shop at this business but I suggest (to the owners) that it would benefit your business to send this cashier a paycheck, in the mail and tell her to stay home! read more

Warning: Bulk discount is never applicable. Been here more than once. They have big signs up about their "20% discount on any case", but it's an illusion. What they don't tell you until checkout is that if the wine is selling at even a $1 off sale price, no discount is obtainable and yep, you guessed it, most of their affordable ($10-25) wines have a sale price. I am a former (as of this afternoon) customer of Shopper's Vineyard. Although they have a nice selection of wines and liquors, I can no longer endure the unfriendly, rude behavior of the checkout staff. They are sullen and rude and always act like they are doing me a favor taking my money. This is not an isolated instance, but has been getting progressively worse for some time. I'll take my business somewhere where they at least pretend they are happy to take my money. This has been my go to store for 15 years, but today things changed. I like to drink bourbon and I'm a amateur collector. I stop in every week or so to see what new things they've put on the shelf and more importantly, in their rare case, which I've bought a lot out of. I've been waiting for a particular $70 bottle to show up, and today, they finally had it. The problem is that they want $199 for it. I ordered a bottle of vermouth and requested that it be sent in a gift bag with a card. I made this request in the section where you are supposed to write any questions/comments about your order. The next day I got an automated shipping label; my package was NOT shipped as a gift & apparently no one read or responded to my request. I called customer service, who said that they would recall the package & reship it as a gift. That was approximately 5 days ago. Today, 12/20, I called to find out the status of the order and come to find out that it has not even been re-shipped. The customer service person I spoke to did not seem to think it was a problem that they took my money & have not sent a gift I ordered 9 days ago. I will never order from here again. read more

Been here about 15 times over the past 10 years. One thing has been consistent, every employee in this place is cranky and miserable. Doesn't matter if it's busy or slow, tons of huffing and puffing going on. Display a NJ craft membership card for a discount, and it gets a reaction like you asked them to jump start your car in the rain. As far as product, nice selection of both European and craft beers. Fridge is always a little on the light side, but single shelved bottles & 6's are in abundance. Matter of fact, just read some other reviews while typing this and can't stop laughing at how true the negative behavior thing is, as also noted by others. My advice, get what you want and go to the counter with the mindset of matching the garbage attitudes. Or go somewhere people aren't like this. read more

Ordered 2 cases of a 2012 Ruffino wine in the store and they were suppose to call me when it came in. Never called so I called them and they told me they had the wine and confirmed it was 2012. I jumped in my car and drove 30 minutes to get the wine. When I got there, I asked one of the employees to check again to make sure it was 2012 and she opened one of the cases, held one bottle up and said it was 2012. I was standing about 10 feet away and could not see the bottle and had no reason to believe she would be lying. Needless to say, I got home and both cases were 2013. I called the store and spoke with Scott and he never even apologized and just said it was my misunderstanding because they haven't had 2012 since August. My response was "that's not true because one week ago I bought 2012 from his store". I can buy 2013 three minutes from my house so why would I drive one hour round trip unless I was being lied to. What nerve to say it was my misunderstanding when I asked not once but twice for them to confirm it was 2012. Are they just stupid in that store???? They should reimburse me for my time and gas!!!! read more
