Most of the post office staff know me. It's to the point where I rarely need to pull out my photo ID to pick up a parcel. As for the store itself, it is dated and has never been renovated since I have shopped here. The hours of operation are not terrific, either. It closes at 10 pm. Most SDM stores close at midnight. Of course, you have a few that are 24-hour ones. If you need basic items or need to fill a prescription, this store is perfect. Don't expect to get frozen Stouffer entrees, though. There aren't those types of freezers here. Staff are friendly here.

There's a Canada Post outlet inside this Shoppers Drug Mart but that's not why I'm here. It didn't take long to spot the cold medication aisle displayed on the overhead signs (in English & Chinese). As far as this huge SDM store, aisles are wide and product selection is excellent. There is a lottery station, ATM to get cash, and all the departments found at SDM stores including grocery & frozen food product selections. I used one of three self-checkout stations to scan & pay for my single Vicks NyQuil purchase that $4 off the regular price. Quick & easy! Be sure to scan your PC Optimum points card too.

This one is on the south side. The other one that I frequent more often is on the north side. The parking lot looks small. However, there are more spots towards the west side of the building. I had no problem parking next to a snowbank. I then walked into the store. This store is open till midnight. It's decent. The woman at the beauty boutique said hi. I reciprocated, which brought out a huge smile on her face. There was a lot of Easter merchandise. I saw everything from chocolate Lindt bunnies, to Squishmallows plushies. I grabbed a couple of six-pack cases of Diet Coke. It was cheaper here than any other store. I also got some vitamins. There was a sale, so I was pleased. I did some perusing. This store has a mini grocery store. I saw bagged avocados and cut-up fruit that was discounted. I should visit this store more often, as most SDMs in Markham don't have fresh produce. The checkout area is different. There's one counter for a human to help cash out your purchases. I didn't see any humans. Instead, there are self-checkout kiosks. I used one. It was straightforward. I scanned my PC Optimum card, my items, and then paid with a credit card. Done! This store has a post office. It's located in the back right corner of the store by the frozen foods. I found a prime parking spot in front of the store. I backed into the spot and walked in. I like this SDM more than the one closer to my home. This store has exotic Lay's potato chips. I was thrilled to see them. My local one doesn't have any. I looked at the frozen foods section. It was nice seeing Stouffer's products before it goes away. There were also Pizza Pops, which I like to enjoy now and again. This store has a strong noodle section. You can get at least four different brands of mac and cheese here. You can also get Knorr's noodles in various sauces. I also enjoyed seeing the Squishmallows section. Easter Squishmallows are out. This store had medium and large ones. The lip balm section is also decent. I spent a good chunk of time looking at everything. I used the self-checkout kiosk to pay for my items. my experience with this SDM today left me in a rage. I…read moredropped off a prescription and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I then did some shopping & at check-out was tied up for 15 minutes because I was charged 9.50 for beef jerky that I didn't buy. This took a very long time to resolve, because apparently they have to find the exact product in the store to reverse the charge (which got in the bill god knows how) and 3 clerks were involved in trying to fix it, while a line-up of shoppers waited. Finally got resolved and headed back to the pharmacy, as 25 minutes had elapsed. Was told the prescription wouldn't be ready for another 5. Then the pharmacist Mary came to tell me that the government refused it, because I came in 10 days early. Why they could not have told me sooner I don't know. I plan to move my business but fear that other SDMs might be just as bad.

However, driving there takes less than 10 minutes. I filled my asthma inhaler prescription at 3am. Why 3am? Because silly me was too lazy to do it during the day and my flight was in a couple of hours. The pharmacist who was on duty and I had a great conversation about being from the Caribbean. Plus, it took 8 minutes for her to fill my 'scription. That never happens during regular business hours. You won't find much people on staff or that even want to help you. They are usually too bubbly for late night or are dead on their feet. It doesn't bother me though. After shopping here for so long, I'm pretty much a seasoned vet and don't need any help navigating the aisles. I can however spent an inordinate amount of time in here figuring out what I need, picking up things I don't need, and then rationalizing that I'm about to spend double than what I estimated. But since they don't close, I don't have to rush and I can take all the time I need--even until 5am...I'm not saying that's happened before but--it has.

Milk is cheaper, cheese goes on sale for $3 a block and they have an extra selection of tchotchkes without the Halloween costumes and excess of holiday cheer. A star is lost for the limited staff on hand at checkout, especially on the many Senior's Days they hold. Pouting even as I type this. For real.
