When he was originally caught and arrested, it took about 36 hours to get him out. That short period scared the hell out of him and he realized what an idiot he had been, how selfish and morally wrong it was to sell drugs along with obviously being illegal. This happened in Rockwall County, and as we learned the hard way, they don't screw around in Rockwall County. Another guy, also a first time offender, got caught selling marijuana gummy bears and was sentenced to 5 years in prison. I was particularly concerned for my son knowing what happened to a few other first time offenders in Rockwall. I don't think the fact that my son was from Dallas helped the situation. The original plea offer was 2 years in state prison! My son had no prior arrests! Heath said "no" to the offer and then spent time getting to know my son. He wanted to know everything, his childhood, struggles, accomplishments, his mind set when he made the poor decision to sell drugs. He genuinely leaned in and got to know my son, understand his story. Because of this, he was able to add some perspective to the case, this wasn't just another kid busted for selling mushrooms. It was compelling and real and it resonated with the DA. He reached out directly to the DA and asked for the opportunity to present why this case was different and he was able to successfully show this because he invested the time necessary to understand my son. Ultimately, my son got deferred adjudication and was sentenced to 120 days in the county jail. If all goes well during his probation, the felony charge goes away. I had seen and heard with my own eyes and ears other people in the same exact position as my son get anywhere from 3 to 5 years in prison. I cannot say enough great things about Heath Hyde and I would absolutely recommend him to friends or family should they find themselves in a similar situation as my son.

The total amount was $540,109 and we was only able to get $210,000 which $104,313 went to me, $70,000 went to Law Office of Bret W. Schmidt, P.C. and $35,000 went to Scott H. Palmer, P.C which was the 3rd party I had no knowledge about. I also had 2 criminal cases that was $5,000 each and the cases were ongoing for 4 years and no motions were filed but the invoices were still sent every month. Also kept you trying to review the discovery of my case to see what evidence the court would try to use on me and he wouldn't let me view it. Kept saying things like "it's a lot to download" or "my computer not fast enough". Then he became very unresponsive to my calls and texts, I could not get in touch with him until days later. Few conversations we did have he was no longer calling me by name, he was referring to me as "dude". When I brought all of this to his attention he wanted to persuade me to sign a plea without me not knowing what I'm up against cause I have not seen the evidentiary discovery. Almost felt as if Bret was working with the prosecutor. Bret last offer to me was a felony 2 years probation deferred and time served. My new attorney Micheal Smith got me a misdemeanor with no probation, time served.
