The store appears to be quite compact and there is a small step to enter it. There's not a lot of room downstairs to fit many customers let alone buggies so i'd avoid entering if it looks busy and maybe go back later. However the good think about this being an independent shoe shop is that you get the benefit of choice between Clarks and Start Rite (as well as other popular brands such as lelli kelly etc) It's worthwhile to note that they do have a loyalty scheme in the kids department where you buy x amount of shoes and get one pair free, which is an obvious incentive for you to shop there and a very welcome one at that due to how fast kids feet grow! However, apart from the size my main gripe with this shop is the staff. Whilst shopping in there they'd left piles of boxes right near the shoe display and on the already narrow floor in front of it a very obvious hazard. My son tripped on it and grazed the skin off of his forehead head resulting in tears and a very shocked little boy. The staff did not apologise for the hazard THEY left there and nor did they show any concern for his well being. I had to ask, twice, for an antiseptic wipe. They were well aware of what had happened, they witnessed it and yet they made no effort to do anything about it and there was no mention of an accident report book which would have been whipped out pretty quickly by one of the better known competitor chains. This in my eyes in sheer unacceptable and is the main reason I would NOT shop here again. Customer service is vital to any retail outlet and here it is painfully lacking.

Decichmann are a major German shoe company, which sell branded shoes. I called in Deichmann while shopping in Bury to take a look and was rather dissapointed, that despite the size of the store they was only a small range of shoes. They did have shoes, a lot of them, but it seemed they only had few designs, and just boxes and boxes of them on the shop floor meaning you were mainly looking at boxes. I normally like the approach most stores have, where you see shoes you like and then request the box, as it makes the place seem less cluttered, this way makes it more confusing for the customer, cluttered and the need for less staff, which although cuts costs, really lowers the customer experience The prices of the shoes here were reasonable, although some were a little pricey. The layout of the store in general was quite nice, other than just boxes and boxes of shoes. This is a decent shoe shop to look in, but please don't be fooled by it being a large store, they don't stock as many shoes as you would expect and you may have to brace your way between boxes and boxes of shoes. This place isn't terrible, but it isn't average either, instead boasts a below average vibe in my opinion, meaning it only deserves 2 stars.

I like the way the Bury branch of New look has womans and childrens wear on one floor which means no fighting for lifts and traipsing up stairs etc. It's also worthy to note that despite these sections being on one floor the store does not appear at all cramped or small and instead boasts a decent amount of space for you to wander and browse. the store is bright and well lit and the staff are pleasant and helpful.

I put children's in quotation marks because amongst others they stock DnG and Ugg boots. Not only that but their sales are legendary - if you are a size 4 or below these should definitely be on your calendar. Underlined and in capitals/ red pen. Everything is good quality imported stock and is perfect if you have relatives or friends who like to dress their kids in branded footwear. Which the little ones of course grow out of almost immediately. Bear Feet are your saviours.

Whatever you might need, for household items, or food shopping its all here, and all at great prices. The various meat, cheese and bakery stalls are amazing. The quality of the food is always top notch, everything is so fresh as its coming straight to the market from the manufacturer or supplier. My main problem is that I always end up going home with a pile of chocolate and cakes because the prices seem too good to be true!! Then theres Black puddings! This is the home of the Black pudding and if you like them, theres nothing better than a freshly cooked one eaten outdoors with lashings of tomato ketchup. Theres a couple of stalls in the outdoor market selling them. The layout of the market is somewhat haphazard, but for a very occasional visitor like myself, its nice to just wonder around taking it all in. I'm sure there are parts I've missed though. The location of the market is very convenient for public transportation, being right next to Bury Interchange which houses a bus station and a Metrolink tram station.

There's an indoor market with a huge selection of meat and fish, as well as other various stalls selling bits and bobs like clothes, handbags, homeware etc. There's also an outdoor part with stalls selling fruit and veg, lancashire cheeses, jams and spreads, sausages...you name it. Great to have a wander and try all the samples being handed out...before you know eat you feel like you've eaten a meal! You can also buy flowers, control knickers, bras...clothes...none of it fashionable, mainly for the OAPs. Bury is famous as the home of black pudding, I'm not a huge fan of it myself but you can come and buy it from a couple of stalls here. I've been to markets all over the world, this isn't an 'artisan' market, a lot of it is bargain tat, but I like coming here to buy meat/fish and things to cook with. Makes a change from going to Tesco and I like the atmosphere.
