When we eventually tried Matalan, they not only had a choice, they were £7 a pair for reasonable quality. When I was asked about a card, I thought it may come in useful at some time, filled in the information, was given a temporary card and got £1 off the trainers immediately! Definite points for the store there! What I was impressed by was that, although the prices are ridiculously low, most of the products are good quality - at least as good as most normal shops. I couldn't give five stars, however, due to the long wait to get served. There was a snake of people all waiting patiently and two tills in operation, every time I have been in, no matter what time of day. I still recommend Matalan to everyone for whatever clothing they need.

This Warrington store has had a recent refurbishment, and now looks bigger than it did previously. The shop is really spacious, and there are no problems shopping with a pram. The shop has a great selection of everyday clothes. You can pick up tops for £2.50, and leather shoes for a tenner. They also have regular offers, and 3 for 2's on gifts, especially around Christmas time. Most of the staff are really friendly, and car parking is usually fine. Be aware, however that the store does get busy. Weekends can be a nightmare, and even with all the checkouts open, be prepared to queue!

They USED to be the bane of my life until I walked past Arches and saw a sale sign over these pricey children's shoes. Arches is a small shoe shop in Lymm village centre that stocks quality footwear for men, women and children. This is a shoe boutique and it focuses on well made Italian makes such as Caprice and Ricosta. Catering more for a slightly more mature clientele, it makes it even more surprising that the uber trendy Lelli Kelli shoes are sold there. Arches has sales frequently and Hilary the assistant is very helpful and has kept shoes aside for my mini-me. several times . There is also a good line in handbags by Fiorelli and Bulaggi . Arches is a price paradox, some of the shoes are quite expensive at £90 and then others are £25. Well my secret is out now. Please leave some Lelli Kellys for me.

Yet the large window display is just full of really lovely looking boots that I couldn't resist going in. It's quite a large shop and more like a discount shoe shop than anything else. All the shoes are piled high in boxes of each style with an open box and sample shoe on the top, so you see what you like then ferret out the box of the right size and try that. They do a lot of women's shoes, from day to day boots to evening shoes, a men's selection and some trainers (although for these I would say try JJB or a dedicated sports shop) The prices are brilliant in here, everything was very reasonable and I saw a lot of boots I liked for under £20 however a wardrobe full of boots and common sense made me hang onto my pennies. They might do children's shoes too, but that's not really my area so you might be best to check for sure before a visit.

I particularly like the fact that I wasn't made to feel out of place in a young person's shop which, after all, is what River Island is.

It is a fantastic place for teenagers and young people as well as having some sophisticated pieces for older people. The staff are reasonably friendly and will approach you to ask if you need any help (sometimes a little too mithering). A good selection of gimmicky gifts in store at the moment, just in time for Christmas. great!!
