Currently, it's chic to use English when naming an establishment in Italy, but the name is all that The Shiraz Wine Store has in common with England. The rest is pure, incomparable, uncopiable Italian style. This Enoteca caters only for the evening crowd, opening from 6pm through till 2am. When closed (see pic) it virtually goes unnoticed - just a big wooden door and a sign so small and understated that you'd never see it. But when it's open, it quickly fills up with the Treviso smart set, who go there exclusively to drink wine from a choice of thousands of different bottles. I thought I'd be specific, asked for a local Merlot from the region, and was presented with a choice of more than a dozen!
Housed in an old storeroom, the Enoteca sits on two levels and is very comfortable if you wish to linger and enjoy a selection from their cold table. All the usual meats, cheeses, grilled and preserved vegetables, olives and the rest are available from a corner counter and lovingly prepared by a specialist. The bar staff are attentive and some are multi-lingual.
A new 'must-visit' when in Treviso, and straight in as one of my favourite places! read more
