Our cantorial soloist, Rebecca Schwartz, is truly amazing. She has infinite patience with kids and adults, alike, and her voice is simply gorgeous. And then there is Rabbi Holin, truly one of the kindest human beings I have ever met. He know each congregant and makes everyone feel welcome. My daughter's bat mitzvah was last weekend. She was completely prepared, ran the service for 2 hours, chanted perfectly, and felt confident throughout based on the wonderful foundation provided to her over the years. Cannot imagine joining any other congregation.

If you are planning to attend services for the High Holidays and maybe a couple other times a year, this place is great. Having gone every week for a year, I can't quite rave about it. The Rabbi wears on you after a while. He is always "on" and has catch phrases that the congregation and the Cantor have started to mock. A recent merger with a smaller synagogue is not going well (do mergers ever go well?) and you will hear griping if you talk to the right people. Torah study is fun and you will learn something, guaranteed. The Torah study regulars pose thoughtful questions and have meaningful, open discussions. Mike, the lay group leader, is well-versed in Biblical Judaism and always comes well-prepared. They are open to pretty much all interpretations of the Torah and are always happy to have newcomers, whether you plan to come regularly, just once, or off-and-on. My only complaint here is that the group used to be more discussion-focused and has become a bit more lecture-style over the year. That said, when you interrupt Mike and pose a discussion question, it usually generates thoughtful discussion from the group. I still rave about the Cantor - he is awesome.

Lets just say, I look forward to Shabbat services followed by the best kiddish in town (even though it means that I have to wake up early on Saturday - its more then worth it). The people become your friends, the rabbi is enlightening yet down to earth, and the cantor has a gorgeous voice and includes you in the singing. Kesher is the synagogue that I was looking for all along, come on by and see for yourself. L'chaim !

All in all, it's a decent church and a great place to learn to drive as a bonus!

Still, once on the property, and the church is seen in the distance across the open field, you realize that this is probably a good place for a church, but certainly not for anything that attracts more autos into the site. There is no other way in or out, so just be careful. I have only been to this location a few times for special events of the Chinese Christian Church of Princeton that rents the facility from the local congregation on a regular basis. The most recent was the celebration of The Year of the Dog, which began recently. The space works well for these hundred or so families, and it is obvious why they would love to purchase the grounds and structures for their perpetual use. Word has it that the church has declining membership and was in fact for sale at one time, but that it is now in partnership with a residential developer to build homes around the steeple and use the hall as a community center!? Sounds like a very bad idea. I enjoyed the feasts and festivities produced by the leasees there, both summer and winter. How nice would it be if they had a permanent home here in the heart of Bucks County. Surely, William Penn would approve.

Luckily for the many community and non-profit groups in the area, its rectory remains available for use. Last Saturday night, its lights were on for the 16th International Dinner and fundraiser in support of Welcome the Stranger, an earnest group of people dedicated to helping immigrants arriving in this country prepare their lives here with English classes, citizenship courses, and job preparation. This was a pot luck dinner supplied by all those who have been helped along the way (more than 3,000). Food from dozens of countries were spread out along one wall, while a silent auction was happening on the other side of the room. There was also a live auction, and entertainment provided. Several thousand dollars were raised, for this wonderful charity that operates on a shoestring budget. Sitting in that room surrounded by people from all points of the globe, and watching everyone having a great time, was totally awe inspiring. It demonstrated what is right with the USA. Many thanks to all the volunteers who made this evening possible, and to the fathers/mothers of the rectory that opened their doors for us. You did good.
