I have been looking for a competent auto detailer in Denton for a little over a year. Someone with experience, the right detailing products and most importantly someone that knows specifically what kind of care a BLACK car needs.
I decided to take a chance with Kevin (the owner of Shine It!) and I stopped in to talk about detailing my 2008 Jet black BMW M3. This car is my baby, with only 20k miles on the clock it was basically new, but the years had not been kind to the paint. Swirl marks show horribly on black cars and by this point the paint looked dull, scratched and frankly not befitting of such a beautiful automobile.
I feel like I grilled him pretty good about how he operates and he didn't hesitate to answer any of my questions. He uses a good detailing procedure, and quality Meguairs products, along with some waxes that can't be store bought for long lasting paint protection. Kevin is a stand up guy that takes pride in his work and it shows. I left my car with him at 8am to get a full detail. Exterior required a wash, then a rubbing compound / clay bar to remove contaminates, a polish/sealant, and a final coat of wax to seal everything in and keep it shiny for a long time. The interior included cleaning everything, applying protectants to all the plastic parts of the interior and then cleaning and conditioning the leather seats, and then a deep clean on the carpets.
The whole process took about 5 hours, but that is to be expected for the amount of work that goes into it. When I picked the car up I couldn't believe the transformation. I know its been 4 years since it was purchased but I honestly believe it looked better than the day I bought it. The exterior had a beautiful shine and even under direct sunlight I couldn't see a single swirl or scratch mark. Excess wax was was cleaned from around the hood and bumper. Good attention to detail.
The inside smelled fresh and clean but not overwhelming, the products he used brought out the natural leather smells of the seats (which I love!). There's nothing worse than having your car detailed and you get in and it smells like a dollar store "smooth breeze" christmas tree air freshner that's been sitting in the sun all day. I like my car to smell clean not perfumed. The seats went from shiny and well used back to their original matte color. The conditioner he used wasn't greasy, didn't rub off on my clothes, and didn't make leather fart noises when I slid into the seat. Just clean and conditioned, they way it should be.
Kevins prices are definitely higher than the $4 car wash but you get what you pay for. If you care about the way your car looks, and want it to keep looking good for many years to come it's worth the premium. Compared with detailers in the D/FW area, his prices are much lower and is quality of work is as good, if not better.
