The Veterinarians, the professional staff, and the receptionists are all wonderful and terrifically helpful. Somewhat expensive (although not, by any means, the most expensive place out there) their facilities are top notch as well. Ever look behind the scenes to see what your Veterinarian has, as far as equipment? I didn't think so. Well these folks have everything they need to make any procedure as safe and smooth for your pet as they possibly can. Does you vet send your animal home with pain medication after a procedure? If they don't, did you ever ask yourself why? The vets at Shiloh do, and I'll tell you - it makes a HUGE difference in their recovery. These folks are absolutely the best. read more

I had been going to Shiloh for 7 years. We always liked them. There staff and doctors were pleasant and treated my Tucker well. About 2-3 years ago, you could never get the same Vet. They had always left the practice. I did not see that as a good sign, but I kept going. I thought they were expensive, but figured it was the going cost in the area. They charged me $700 a year for geriatric lab work for my Pekingese, and me feel it was necessary. In the last two years, it has become impossible to get an appointment. If I'm calling because there is something wrong with my Tucker, I don't want to wait 1-2 weeks to get him seen. I'm pretty flexible. I'll go to either location and I do have some days off during the week. You do spend most of your time with the tech. One time they drew blood from his jugular vein. They didn't even look in his paws. It was so traumatizing. Fortunately, my baby was a good boy. I'm so disappointed in how downhill they have gone. I think they just have too many pet patients. My new vet says that lab work is unnecessary. read more

Very disappointed with the service.. OUR pug has bad allergies. Tried to get her in but had to wait a week before getting an appointment. When we showed up the receptionist got very irate with my husband claiming our appointment was for the day before. To make a long story short we will not be back. I too, had been going to Shiloh for many years until lately. Never missed an appointment or was late, never not paid what I sometimes thought were gouging rates because I love all four of my animals I brought there. It has gone completely downhill. The owners seem waaayyyy more concerned with $$$ than anything else. I showed up at my latest appointment on time, checked in, and proceeded to watch patient after patient go ahead of me. Finally after 45 minutes I asked the receptionist - the smug older woman with short white hair - when I might be seen. She snapped at me "Well, you were 20 minutes late, so you've had to wait." (Like some kind of punishment). Even though the dog I brought is a mess and shakes and quakes the whole time, too. I told her I certainly wasn't late. She informed me my appointment was at 8:30 and I didn't show up till 8:50. So I whipped out my phone and showed her the text I had received the day before confirming my 8:50 appointment. She then had a conversation with the other receptionist about this being the third person so far, and some new system. "It's our new system," she told me. Not EVEN an apology, an ooops we made a mistake, nothing. Nada. Zip. By the time I saw the doctor with my scared little girl now near panic, it was well over an hour. Still no apology. From anybody. Did they offer me any discount, any thing for my valuable time? Yep. In my dreams. Not a word. To me that screams "We care about your money, not your time or your poor scared animal, and when we screw up, oh well, too bad." I was livid. To top that off, a woman's dog was being aggressive in the waiting room, so she hit it. Smacked it hard. Did anyone who worked there say anything? Not a peep. When she went to the exam room, I got up and talked to the receptionists about it. They claimed they Saw Nothing. Bull. Believe it or not, another patient hit their dog at the desk afterward. The old lady behind the desk said, "Well, that was barely a tap." Barely a tap. First, it wasn't a tap. People are striking their dogs in full view of staff at Shiloh, and nothing is being done. I for one, don't think it's right to EVER strike an animal. I would never in a million years do something like that to an animal, and Shiloh Vet's apparent condonement of this behavior is disgraceful. I had to wonder what might be going on behind closed doors in this kind of atmosphere, and I decided I will never, ever, bring my Furbabies there again. read more

Be prepared to be "in compliance" with this vets standards and to purchase their reccomended brand of flea/tick meds etc. (or you will not be in compliance). I have been taking my pets to this vet for the past few years. To make a long story short....I was told that whatever they, the vet, recommended for my pets was not followed through on. However unless you use the products THEY sell such as the flea/tick meds you're not following their recommendations...even if you ARE using another flea/tick prevention. When we called about issues we were still having with our dogs skin and we weren't happy with the suggestions so far they told us they wouldn't be seeing our pets any longer and mailing our files to us. That was over a week ago and I STILL haven't received them. Even though I DID follow their reccomendations and have prescriptions as proof they said I wasn't. DO NOT GO TO THIS VET!!! read more

Business has not been accepting new patients for almost a year. Been checking in every so often and am turned away.

I've been to this vet clinic 4 times in 2 1/2 weeks. All visits started with a tech, ended with a tech even the 2 times we saw a vet. The techs give injections and take blood. Twice they were unable to get nails trimmed, and once unable to get blood. I have to pay for a tech visit the second time for a second try. I've never been to a vet where the techs give injections or take blood. Nail trims also done by the vet with tech assisting. Never had any trouble. A supplement was recommended. I asked if it was a prescription supplement, the girl said yes. When I got home I found it online $20 cheaper, not a prescription.Every time I call they tell me what vet I will see. I have to find out if I have a choice since we are new to the practice. Just my observations. read more

This is a great vet office! Everyone is super friendly and my dogs love it there. My Pit Bull was diagnosed with Lymphoma last year and Dr. Owings was great with us. She told us exactly what to do and where we could take him for chemo. He went into remission but unfortunately it's back again. He's in rescue treatment now and we take him here for his blood work after chemo. They are so loving with my big baby and he loves going there. Dr Owings will call a day or 2 later to check on him and see how he's feeling. They are great with sending records to his oncologist too. I would highly recommend them over anywhere else in the area. We have been going to Shiloh Vet after we had a terrible experience with another vet and we have been greatly pleased by the wonderful care our dog Buddy got there. Buddy had many health problems and probably should have died years ago, but with the incredible care given to him by Dr. Schneider, he lived much longer than anyone expected. I can't say enough about how wonderful he was to our sweet dog and the great care we received. He knew we had spent a lot of money going to an eye doctor for our dog and all the medicine he was on, and Dr. Schneider always worked with us and was so flexible. I highly recommend Shiloh Vet to anyone and especially Dr. Schneider, he is wonderful. We recently lost our sweet dog and they couldn't have been kinder or more caring. Switched vet offices and I'm so happy I did! The vet was so thorough and actually sat and check out my dog for over 45 minutes. I felt like I was really getting my money's worth and that my dog was actually cared about. Also gave me a ton of new info about my dog. Everyone is professional, helpful, and incredibly kind. It's very clear that they love animals and do everything they can to help. We had to make the difficult decision to say goodbye to our 16 year old jack russell this past weekend. They were very supportive and let us know what would happen and answered all our questions and let us be with our dog until the end. I can't say enough nice things about how kind and understanding they were during a sad and difficult time for our family. They even sent a sympathy card saying how much they liked Sport and that they were so sorry for our loss. We're grateful for the kindness they showed to us and to our dog as they helped us to ease his pain and say goodbye. read more

Sorry, but I have to say this....I have been going to Shiloh Vet for over 8 years and up until last month I loved them. Always nice and friendly staff and never had an issue with them! Okay so in January of this year (2012) My dog got very sick. And she needed care real bad. It happened in the beginning of the week and I paid all my bills over the weekend so I was pretty much broke. I called them and asked them if they would at least see my dog and bill me or I could post-date a check for them for the upcoming Friday....Well they said no that there is NOTHING they could do.....To me that is very poor! As I said I've been going there for over 8 years and never once ever left without paying my bill....And they couldn't work with me one time??? For that I'll never ever take another animal there again! read more

I have been meaning to comment and review for a while now, but finally forced myself to sit down and do it, because they really do deserve praise and recognition for their amazing service. Ive been going to Dr Herr for about 5 years, and she is just beyond amazing. Every pet owner thinks their pet is exceptional and wants their baby to get the best care, and I was never disappointed. There have been a lot of health issues with my cat, some which had me going for second opinions and to specialists and never once has my vet made me feel bad about checking all my options or looking around for better prices. I don't really think that this place is very expensive honestly, since I've gone to other places in the area and its not outrageously out of the range other places charge. You get what you pay for - for example, when my senior cat had a dental, she had human grade anesthesia, with nurses monitoring her continuously, as well as after the procedure and 8 extractions and she got excellent meds to keep her comfortable. The vet called me several times during the day to update me on the progress. I felt like she was in the best of hands, and she was. I don't think a lot of other vets do that. My cat recently passed away from cancer that went to her lungs, and they were beyond compassionate and caring. It took a very long time to say goodbye because we just didn't want to, and they let us have as much time as we needed and everyone had so much patience and understanding. I was amazed that a few days later a got a condolence gift basket from my vet and a beautiful handwritten letter. I think this place is a gem and Dr. Herr is just unbelievable. Recently Ive also gone there for my other cat, who ate a monopoly piece and was choking and due to this emergency went with a different doctor and they were also excellent - I think the first time it was with Dr. Hoffman, and the second time with Dr. Onstott, and they were also very very good. We kept going back and forth whether it would be necessary to do exploratory surgery to find the piece if there was a blockage, and finally after several x-rays and barium study found that it was not necessary. Thats another thing which I like- they could have easily told me that surgery was necessary and increased my bill by at least $3000, but they put my cats well being above a larger paycheck and I`m forever grateful. I am very upset with the Shiloh office in Dover. We took two 14 week old German Sheppard dogs. First of all they took in one at a time, which was ok. But when they came to take our male in he was clearly upset. He was crying. A vet tech came out 5 mins later and said we had to come in and get him. They told us he was so upset, that he peed and pooped in the office. Then he went to a corned and growled and tried to nip at them so they didn't give him any shots. But now he learned if he nips, he can get out of this situation. My son went in to get his dog and offered to help hold him to finish the visit and get his shots. They said No and sent him out and told him, in order for him to be seen, he basically has to drug the puppy. I definitely don't agree with this! They could have put a muzzle on or had us help. Yes my puppy was scared going to a new place, with other animals and different ppl. I really think these people need to be trained to handle these situations better! There should be No reason to drug a 14 week old puppy! read more

Run away, run away fast. I would not give it any stars if possible. More worried about churning the clock and running up fees than caring for your pet. Med prices are inflated. Everything needs a separate appointment so as to rack up more fees. Been in York for 15 years. Changed vets because I moved across town. Will gladly drive across town or to another town for a vet more concerned about my dogs well being than generating fees. The straw that broke the camel's back involved a request related to a scheduled visit with a "technician" for a "med check" for my senior with thyroid issues. My four month old puppy developed an nasty ear rash. I asked if someone could take a quick look while we were in with the senior. The response was "No, you will have to make a separate appointment." Your kidding me, two minutes to look in puppy's ear and say - "here, clean it out with this." Borderline insensitive. And then when I got there, they said, we can't test his thyroid because the medication was not given 4 hours prior to the appointment/drawing blood. Would have been nice for the vet to remind me of the time sensitivity of providing the medicine and drawing blood. The tech acted like I had screwed up saying "don't worry about it, its not a big deal" - like I was doing them the favor of patronizing their business. I am the one that took a 1/2 day of work for the appointment. This was not an isolated incident. When I made the appointment, I remembered it needed to be in the morning and she was providing me appointments in the afternoon. I feel they don't have a good grasp of the various issues dogs can encounter and I don't trust their advice. Pretty clear they put generating fees above an animal's welfare. I am done and going back to my old vet. read more

I can't thank Shiloh Veterinary Hospital enough for everything they have done for my pets. They are, in my opinion, almost like family and Dr. Hurley, is an amazing veterinarian. She is caring, understanding, and always there to help with anything you or your pet needs. Recently, my family struggled with two of our pets being gravely ill and she took care of both of them. One pulled through and is doing extremely well. The other had to be put to sleep after trying to do everything we could to save their life.. Her kindness, patience, and caring made the process easier. If you are seeking a vet that you know you can trust and you know that will do everything they can to save your pet, they are an excellent choice. read more

I have been going to Shiloh for awhile now but my recent experience is making me reconsider ever going here again. I have a 2 year old golden retriever/ cocker spaniel mix. He is the sweetest dog and very friendly. I got him neutered when they recommended and when I went to pick him up they said he was vicious. Which was very concerning seeing as though I have never had any problems with him. It was alarming to hear that but I continued to go there for his checkups. Recently he had some ear problems so I took him to get examined and they made me muzzle him. They also would not examine him unless he would get on the metal table that would then be raised. I asked the vet if he could examine him on the ground where he was comfortable and he replied no I cant examine him properly without him on this table. It was a process to get my 70 pound dog onto the table all by myself which he was then raised on in complete fear. It was a very stressful process and with him on the table the doctor still said he couldn't get an accurate testing to fully know what was the problem. The vet still gave him a shot and prescribed him two medications anyway- I feel like they are in it just for the money and not well being of animals. My bill for this 6 minute visit and not having any answers was almost $200. Since he was muzzled he was petrified. It broke my heart to see him so scared and worked up. I will not be taking my dog back here. I wish I knew what they did to him to make him so scared and anxious to go to the vet. read more

My dachshund had broken teeth that were infected and the infection was causing fluid to ooze out of my dogs face. After much procrastination (I thought the wound on his face was cancer), I took my dog here. Dr. Hoffman diagnosed Bailey correctly immediately. I took him to surgery thereafter where I was treated wonderfully by the staff. I previously took my animals to Dover Animal Hospital but decided to try here. I received good care at Dover as well but my preference is here at Shiloh on Emig Mill Rd. The reason why is because they had more respect for the budget I am on. And also because they took more time with my animal than Dover does. They gave my dog a complimentary nail cut and tick removal. At Dover, nothing was complimentary. And also because I was treated with MUCH MORE compassion. One of the vet technicians even gave me a ride when I had difficulty getting back to pick my dog up. I was just treated as if I was there only client. So I am going to change all of my animals over to here. read more
