I just bought a house (sup ladies?) and now I need to paint it all. I had an interior designer come…read morein who decided that grays would be a nice, masculine color for my dudeplex ("brodome" was also in the running) - and before you knew it we'd picked all the incredibly manly hues. Problem : I don't know anything about painting a house. Solution: Go to Benjamin Moore! My first experience with Benjamin Moore was outstanding. Rad Bruce (there are two Bruce's, so I will be referring to one as Rad Bruce on account of his awesomeness and one as Pretty Rad Bruce on account of his helpfulness but not-quite-as-awesomeness) helped me pick out the right ceiling paint, tray liners, rollers and paintbrushes to make painting my ceilings a success. Seriously, my ceiling is amazing. Ladies, feel free to come over and stare at it for awhile. I'll let you make that as clean or dirty as you want to. Anyways, Rad Bruce really set me up well, gave me tons of great advice and helped carry the massive 5 gallon paint can back to my car. Rad Bruce, you're the bomb. My second visit was also good - just not quite AS good. Pretty Rad Bruce, who has longer hair and over 27 years of painting experience (according to Rad Bruce) helped me this time along with an adorable young lady who was extremely patient with me as I tried to figure out the colors I needed. Turns out that half the color choices I made weren't even Benjamin Moore to begin with. Oops! But I did learn they can color match if you give them a paint chip and 24 hours. So, there's that. Anyways, Pretty Rad Bruce didn't give me much advice, but he DID help me calculate how much paint I'd need, and that's pretty rad. We also bought some TSP here to clean out the nicotine stains from the ceilings in the kitchen. Now before I wrap this review up with a pretty bow, let me just say this: Smokers, if you want an incentive to stop smoking, clean a ceiling in a room that was occasionally smoked in. Once you see that black and brown sludge wiping off, you'll never want to inhale again. Seriously, you will want to vomit and will immediately realize the error of your ways. Anyways, enough guilt tripping dirty, dirty smokers and back to Rad Bruce and Pretty Rad Bruce. This place gets a 5 out of 5 because those guys are passionate about paint and very helpful for first timers. If you're about to deck out your crib in some sweet new tones, go see 'em. You'll be glad you did.

This is a very long store with the paint selection in the back. The pricing looks pretty high in here but it looks to be a one stop shop. The women behind the counter were dealing with a customer and they looked like they were giving personalised service. The place has furniture, lamps and decoration accessories that is a bit conservative for my aesthetics but would be pleasing to the local Mission cliental. The place is tastefully laid out and I am sure you get what you needed here if you are renovating details of your home.

That means I need a lot - and I mean a LOT - of paint. I came here one afternoon with a list of paints picked out by my interior decorator (Dasan Interiors, look her up!) and a wallet that knew it was about to get the diet of its life. The nice woman behind the desk took down my order and helped me calculate how much paint I would need. Unfortunately we hit a snag right away. I was buying Pratt & Lambert Matte/Flat finishes, which aren't big sellers for them. As a result, they didn't have enough of the base color to mix my paints. OH NO! That was a huge problem, because I officially moved into the house in 5 days and they wouldn't get a new shipment for 2 - 3 weeks. What's a man to do? Luckily, in stepped a very nice German-sounding man whose name escapes me. Together, they deduced that I could use a C2 paint for the base, then use the Pratt and Lambert as my second coat - and everyone would win! Babes wouldn't even notice that my base coat wasn't the same as my top coat. Oh, I'm a sly devil alright. So I waited about 35 minutes (I didn't have a watch or I certainly would have timed it for all my devout Yelp fans), got the paint, loaded up my car and sped off to adorn my dudeplex in the finest shades of gray. One thing you should know: Paint is absurdly expensive. Just painting my house will wind up running me over $1,000, I'm sure of it. But at least my walls will look nice when I'm sitting on the floor because I can't afford furniture. All in all my experience here was excellent, no complaints. That is - until I see whether or not that bottom base coat actually looks okay or not. Fingers crossed.
