I needed a break, and this was exactly what I needed. Travelling with someone who had never been to Whitby before, I know of Sherlocks well, so trusted this would be good, and a good mix of old fashioned and quirky- perfect for me. You access via sherlocks, or the little side alley, and lives where Mrs Hudson's (get it?) used to be, above the tearoom.
I booked about a week and a half before- as a last minute booking, I just used booking.com- which turned out to be a bit of a mistake- as booking.com never notified them of our booking- so they weren't quite prepared when we got there! But- they kept my companion entertained, were apologetic and attentive- we popped out for dinner (they gave us a long list of recommendations too) and when we returned, the room was perfect, warm lights on, clean, and our bags upstairs ready.
The decor was gorgeous (I even took pictures of the cushion labels because I want them...), the bed was comfy, as were the cute chairs, the tea and coffee making facilities were fab- as you would expect above a coffee house, it was warm, the shower was great and the service was fabulous too.
Breakfast was amazing, full english on the first morning, and pancakes on the second, but plenty on offer, served one floor down- we were given goodie bags of scones hot out of the oven, and had lovely chats with the owner and staff.
We absolutely will be coming back, and would very highly recommend. read more
