I just got my hair cut for the first time since late January or early February, and Don did a fine job taming my curly mane. The little business has always looked busy during its open hours, and today, on a late Saturday morning, was no different. Gentlemen's Choice had three chairs going simultaneously, the hum of conversation and clippers blending to a tune familiar to barber shops anywhere you go. Although the place was hopping, my wait time was minimal--Don and his colleagues efficiently clipped and chatted their way through two or three clients before my turn came. After some banter about what he was going to have to do to deal with my unruly mop, Don quickly got down to business, taking me from shaggy to shorn in deft snips and clips. I learned that while the establishment had only been in this location for about three years, they had previously done business in Forestdale for 30 years, so there's a lot of experience behind the scissors. The barbershop is clean, inviting, and has a great vibe. There's very little wait time, the chairs are super comfortable, and the magazines are up to date. They even have small games available for customers to enjoy while they wait. In the heat of summer, the shop stays cool and comfortable, and in the cold of winter, it's warm and cozy. All the barbers are friendly, and the steady stream of regular customers says a lot about the quality of their work. Parking has never been an issue either, and they have handicapped parking available. Our barber, Raven Baker, is absolutely top-notch--both highly skilled and incredibly attentive. The haircuts she gave us were exactly what my brother Tim and I wanted. But beyond being a great barber, Raven is also wonderfully personable. She takes time to understand our preferences, offers helpful advice, and makes the whole experience enjoyable. She's very patient with both of us, and we always leave feeling like valued customers.
