'You can be sure of Shell' went the old slogan from the 1970s, when they used to advertise petrol and lubricants on TV. Petrol company adverts seem fewer and further between these days (though oddly, not on Spanish TV). I wonder why?
Anyway, this service station is on the main A23 road into and out of Brighton to and from London, about a mile and a half from the city centre. As such, it has got the perfect location for passing trade, and it does get very busy on summer week-ends, and when there are car and motorbike rallies to the town. But it all seems reasonably efficiently managed, and it has the usual shop selling sandwiches, snacks and drinks, newspapers and sundry items of basic motoring supplies.
The main downer is that it has no lavatory, which can be a pain just before a long journey. There's no cash-point either. read more
