There are multiple entrances to the pumps, which is helpful when lines start to build up. Moreover, there are always reliable deals on junk food inside the station, which is great in a pinch. The prices seem to be market-driven, and not artificially inflated due to the area's affluence. There's an air pump as well, which is helpful when the inevitable tire pressure light turns on. If you're located nearby, I'd suggest enrolling in a Speedway rewards card, simply because this station is conveniently near many restaurants and points of interest. Man, we'd go there for every occasion; during bomb threats at the school, cutting class and driving around, I even went there for cheap gas through my college days... hell, I was loyal to that gas station after I dropped out too. When you're that age, a car is freedom, and the open road is all your hopes and dreams before they were smashed by cops and life, and horrible ex girlfriends, and Work, and money, and NewYorkers... I digress. Everything I did back then involved driving forever and ever and when I needed a fill-up, I'd go to Jamaica mart. The Portion Road Speedway…read more With 87 octane fuel reaching $4.05 per gallon in Las Vegas, I appreciate the price of $3.49 per gallon for 87 octane here. Actually my dad does, since he was pumping the gas for his vehicle. This Speedway is an old fuel station that dates back to at least the early 1980s when it was a Hess. Over the years it has been renovated. This includes the Cape Cod exterior of the convenience store. When I use to live in the area back in the 1990s this was one of the gas stations that I used to fill up my Chevrolet Celebrity then Mercury Cougar. Just like it was over two decades ago when it was a Hess, this is one of the easier gas stations to maneuver around and get in and out of. Unlike the Portion Road BP and generic gas station, and Exit 61 Mobil. The Sullivan Street to Ackerly Lane backway provides an option to exit onto westbound Portion Road. And just like it was decades ago when the Hess family owned it, it is clean. There is none of that graffiti on the gas pumps that spoils some gas stations. At the same time that it celebrates the past it celebrates the future. Where I looked out toward a convenience store that reminded me of a coastal Long Island Cape Cod house, my eyes took in my dad paying for the fill up by inserting his credit card. This alleviated the extra steps of stepping into the Cape Cod house convenience store. The fact that this is the gas station that my dad and I stopped at on Long Island is evidence that it generally a safe area. After my dad put in $3.49 per gallon for gasoline here, I will put in my $3.50 cents by saying that the Portion Road Speedway in Lake Ronkonkoma is a good gas station that has been that way from at least as far back as the President Reagan Administration.
