I had a wonderful experience today with the staff at this Speedway. Both the man and woman behind…read morethe counter were very pleasant and helpful. The young woman assisted me in converting my Speedy points into gift cards. I didn't have the Speedway app on my phone, and wasn't sure how to access my points. It took a few minutes, but the young lady was able to get the gift cards for me with just my phone number and password. No app needed. I am very, very grateful. The staff is always friendly at this station. Kevin

I guess I'll start at the beginning. Way back in the 1980s, this location was a Total gas station…read more I spent many a dusty afternoon biking the streets, and stopping at Total for a coke or whatever. It was an oasis within my suburban desert. My dad would randomly call out 'Anyone wanna go to Total' knowing we damn sure did. It came out more like a single, long word, and we were in the station wagon before he could finish saying it. The sign was bright orange like soda pop. After school, we'd wander over to Total and try to talk the cashier into selling us cigarettes. Sometime while I was at college around the turn of the century, Total became Speedway, and things continued on. After graduation, I headed for the golden shores of California and met the love of my life. We got married and had a baby, and decided to move back to Michigan. Just like that, Speedway was back in my life. I could throw a frisbee from our cute little ranch and hit the pumps. Two more kids joined our growing little family. Once they could pedal, we biked the same dusty streets I used to as a boy. When it was hot we'd stop at Speedway for a coke or whatever, and bump into my dad a lot in the process. He was a regular, with an impressive 10,000,000 reward points (estimate) that granted him access to the employee bathroom. Speedway was our family beacon, shining bright red through the evening fog. The kids got older and their bikes got rusty in the garage, but their gas tanks were always filled at you-know-where. Our son half-joked that he wanted to take his high school graduation pictures at Speedway. Eventually, our oldest went off to college way up north at the tippy top of Michigan, where there isn't a Speedway. Then one day, seemingly out of nowhere, the family group chat blew up: SPEEDWAY IS A 7 ELEVEN. They were all shocked. "I'm not okay with this" someone muttered. But I knew it would be okay. First orange, then red, and now green. They still sell coke or whatever for those especially hot days. Gas is more expensive now. That's the way life goes.
