Petro Canada - Gas pumps and sign

Petro Canada

(1 review)

I filled my car's gas tank up once while I was in Ottawa. After stuffing myself with grub for lunch…read moreat a nearby restaurant last Friday, I saw this Petro-Canada and stopped by. It had steady business. I had no problem finding a free pump. I tried paying at the pump, but the authorization was declined. I tried it again and it did the same thing. It was odd. The reason why this review gets a high rating is my seeking help from the man at the convenience store attached to this gas station. I couldn't tell if it was an issue with my credit card or the pump. I asked if he could pre-approve an amount for me. We went through the process of approving $70 worth of gas on my credit card. This transaction was also denied. It proved to me that there was something weird happening with my credit card. I thanked him for his efforts troubleshooting with me. I sat in my car and called my credit card company. It is known to do fraud checks. It decided to initiate a check and put a hold on my card when I tried to pay for gas at the pump. I find my credit card company to be odd. I've been in Ottawa for a week and you now flag a gas pre-authorization on it? I got the hold taken off my credit card. I was then able to pay at the pump. I swiped my Petro-Points card to earn points, my 407 ETR card to get a discount for each litre of gas, and them my credit card to pay. It worked at long last. Woo hoo! I successfully filled my gas tank up. I was happy. It was way too much work after lunch, but I'm glad that I was still alert. It's a decent gas station. I'd return here again to fill up my car's gas tank and hope that my credit card is hold-free due to a perhaps random fraud check. (238)

Awesome news until you have to get any form of work done. It was rumoured that the Lighthouse had WiFi and I had no choice in the matter. Found between the bridge to the US and Mallorytown Landing, the Lighthouse has long been a place that campers and locals would come to for necessities and the elements of civilization. The WiFi isn't the only indication that they've stepped up their game. Firstly, there's a gas station if your car or boat happen to have been caught out. You're also able to camp there. They are a registered campground and you're more than welcome to stay over. They have all the tuck shop faves such as cold drinks, snacks, maps, newspapers, and probably the tastiest coffee in Mallorytown (which admittedly may be the equivalent of being the best hockey team in Dubai, but it is good stuff and it isn't Tim Horton's). You're also able to grab a sandwich that's made daily (or made to order if you ask nicely) and homemade soup that is also made daily. Not hungry? They also offer a movie rental service that is as current as most independently owned movie stores. Oh, and if you're thirsty, they're also a fully licensed LCBO that has for its size a great selection of beer, wine, and sprits. After I was done stealing their WiFi, I was able to buy tins of Sapporo, Grolsch, Gösser, and a bottle of Casillero Del Diablo's 2007 Shiraz. Not bad at all for a campground.
