We engaged Sheetz Paint & Sheetrock for the first time when we purchased our home 3.5 years ago. My wife posted a request on Facebook to find a painter for interior work, and he performed well. Fast forward 3.5 years, and a burst pipe in the attic caused water damage to our drywall. Remembering our positive experience, we contacted the same company. They visited our home, provided an estimate, and we agreed to proceed. The anticipated timeline was approximately 3 weeks, with the price covering all labor; we would supply the materials. Upon receiving the contract on July 6th, we made the initial deposit. Unfortunately, that's when things took a turn for the worse. Initially, he promised to start the following Monday, but he didn't due to a family emergency causing delays. Despite this setback, we were understanding. After a 10-day delay, he began work. Typically, he'd start around 3-4 pm, he would set up his equipment for like an hour, and then he would work couple hours and leave. He never worked no more than 2-4 days a week. Originally slated to complete the interior within a week, it stretched to 3 weeks due to his late starts. We began to realize that this was not the same company we had dealt with before; many things had changed. Despite this, we maintained a positive attitude, following his instructions. We made payments after each week's work, with the remainder due upon completion. As time went on, he requested half of the remaining balance due to financial challenges and a broken spray gun. While we explained that we couldn't pay until the job was completed, he hadn't even started painting the exterior. He understood and agreed. The next day, he assured us he'd start early to accommodate his son's school schedule. We were skeptical but allowed for this possibility. As the day progressed without any communication from him, we waited. Eventually, he became rude, mentioning bills and the need to purchase equipment. He even threatened to take on other jobs if we didn't pay half the remaining balance. Regrettably, we gave in, hoping it would prompt him to complete the work. However, his promises remained unfulfilled, and the cycle of excuses continued. Rain and illness were cited as reasons for delays. After 4-5 days, he started returning in the late afternoon, occasionally working later. He continued to complain about bills and financial difficulties. We tried to be accommodating, even offering to cover his gas expenses if he came daily. We also paid him for extra tasks beyond the original agreement. Despite our best efforts, he still failed to complete the work on time. We also had a complaint from HOA about the way our exterior of our home looked for a weeks time with incomplete work. Frustration grew as he provided more excuses. We even confronted him about the unfinished job. He became defensive and hostile. We threatened legal action, but he dismissed it, claiming he was still showing up intermittently. After engaging law enforcement, we learned that we couldn't file a report as he was showing up for the job. An officer suggested pursuing a civil case, as he seemed familiar with this type of situation. He also implied that he might have pulled this behavior before. Unfortunately, this experience echoed those of others who had dealt with the same company. He refused to acknowledge responsibility, citing that we hadn't signed a contract. Despite this, we had evidence in the form of text messages, payment records, and invoices. His text messages became increasingly unpleasant, including mocking comments. What deeply upset me was his insensitive comment about my immigrant background and the circumstances under which I gained citizenship. This was especially hurtful given my 22 years in the USA and 12 years as a citizen. I filed a report with the Civil Rights Division in response. While he claimed he would retrieve his tools, we ensured police presence during the process. Although the likelihood of recovering the remainder of the funds seems low, we're committed to pursuing the matter in court. We've left feedback on various platforms and intend to share pictures of the incomplete work. We anticipate that he will respond to this review. He is inherently racist and has voiced his public opinion on his dislike towards Hispanics/Mexicans to be specific. He refers to us as "you people" whenever directly responding to anybody trying to console him for his racist remarks.
