This Pilot is conveniently located just off I-40/I-85 exit 132 (Mount Hope Church Road) in McLeansville, North Carolina. Having grown up in nearby High Point in the 80s and 90s and regularly traveling back and forth between the Triangle and Atlanta since 2020, I hadn't heard of McLeansville until now. Over about the last couple of years, I've learned that Pilot Flying J (Pilot and Flying J merged in 2009) are the best stops for gas and restroom breaks on the merged stretch of I-40 and I-85 in North Carolina, between the Triad and the Triangle. If anyone knows better, please educate me. On this stretch, there are Pilots at exits 132 (this one in McLeansville), 150 (Haw River), and 152 (Mebane). There's also a Flying J across the street from the Pilot at exit 150. I think the only comparable gas station/truck stop on the same stretch is the TA Travel Center at exit 138 (Whitsett). I'll probably have left Yelp reviews for each of these places before our time in the Triangle is up. I-40 overlaps with I-85 between I-40 exits 227 and 259. In between those exits, the I-85 exit numbers, 131 to 163, prevail. This Pilot is situated close to the west end of the overlap, near Greensboro. Relatively speaking, this Pilot in McLeansville is spacious, clean, and well-stocked. It's no QuikTrip, RaceTrac, or Love's, but it's one of the closest things you'll find to those brands around here. My four-star rating is relative to the area. I counted 14 pumps at the filling station. There are Dunkin' and Wendy's fast food restaurants on-site. This is Pilot Travel Center store #7937. It's open 24/7.

While my attention was divided, unauthorized money was sent from my phone through my banking app/Zelle. The scam also involved a "Three Card Monte" style game where they encourage you to pick a card and claim they will double your money if you guess correctly. I did not participate in the game or allow them to give money to my child. After everything happened, I was informed this reportedly occurred multiple times today at Sheetz.Approaching women with children to play. Giving the children dollars What was especially alarming is that after the incident at Sheetz, the same group appeared to move to the TJ Maxx parking lot area and continued targeting other women. While there, another woman came up screaming and stated they had stolen $1,800 from her the week before. One individual was a Black male with dreads wearing multiple chains/jewelry. Another was a light-skinned male wearing a yellow worker-style safety vest. There was also a Caucasian male wearing blue shorts. Female Mexican skinny dark hair . They were seen leaving in a black sedan and a white van with the license plate WAH-- 1753 or 1810 The phone numbers used during the interaction were 336-925-3422 and 336-471-2370. They also appeared to spread themselves throughout the gas station near pumps 4-9 and pump 6. For confidential reasons, I cannot disclose all specifics involving my minor child, but I will say children were present during this interaction, which made the situation even more concerning. I truly tried to do the right thing by helping someone I believed was in need of emergency assistance, and this situation left a very sour taste in my mouth. Please do NOT hand strangers your unlocked phone, even if the story sounds urgent or believable. This was my fault . I also reported this to law enforcement, and I was informed this type of tactic is commonly associated with gambling/distraction scams. Also, to the woman who was screaming, recording, and saying she had also been scammed -- if you happen to be in this group, thank you so much for helping by recording and for calling the police. Shoutout to the Sheetz managers and TJ Maxx staff as well. Unfortunately Sheetz did not have security on duty during the daytime . Please stay alert, ladies, and keep your children close. I have already reported this to the appropriate agencies. Sharing this so other women and families stay safe.

I can't count on the tea to be filled and available whenever I go in, and I don't really get much food there anymore, so without being able to get a drink in the morning every time, it kind of makes me stopping pointless. Usually, it is there, but I would say once every couple of weeks I will walk in and the urns are empty, waiting to be serviced (like they have been noticed, but tea is not being brewed). It's frustrating when the brewed tea isn't available, because bottled drinks are so packed with sugar. I like to put just a small amount of sweet tea in a mostly unsweet cup. I do like that they have the powdered lemon available. Generally... they could probably do better here.
