I've been a patient for 16 years, and I still drive from East Haven to Hartford because the doctors and their staff are excellent. I have an uncommon and chronic condition that led me to Dr. Benson Horowitz, the wonderful founder of SHE Medical. He salvaged my sanity with his expertise, care and humor. Once he retired, I consulted their other fine doctors who have since retired as well or departed for different opportunities. My current nurse practitioner, Diana Forbes, is a treasure with heaps of practical experience, inquisitive intelligence and a calming bedside manner. It's a comforting experience, which is not what you would expect in a doctor's office (especially one of this nature). The staff is also exceptionally diligent and full of camaraderie. A couple of the ladies have been there for over 30 years! If that doesn't speak volumes about this practice, I don't know what else would. If you need a competent, compassionate and knowledgeable GYN, then call SHE Medical.
Editorial comment: If you are a body type other than slender or athletic, I would not suggest Dr. Polly Moran as your practitioner. She is terribly demeaning and didn't even bother to ask me about my recent weight gain (I'd turned to comfort foods after my parents died). Though I've had problems with my weight for a while, I also have chronic illnesses that interfere greatly with shedding pounds. This information is readily accessed in my records that she clearly did not read. However, she chose to make silent assumptions about the 20 extra pounds and then told me that she'd mark the Medicare chart as "morbidly obese" so they'd pay for the exam. I was shocked. Despite my struggles, I'm *not* morbidly obese! A few months later, I noticed that I was charged for this exam and called a billing specialist to explain the situation. The specialist told me, "Medicare never pays for that part of the exam. She should have known that." Well, I'm sure she did. This "vulvar specialist" also performed the most needlessly painful exam I'd ever had, and I literally drove home (one hour, mind you) in tearful agony. No, I was not impressed and ended up reporting her to the administrative manager. Now I have DIANA and could not be happier. read more
