Shaw's Hillsborough prices are astronomical! Price gouging is not illegal in NH, so they do it every week and get away with it. I live three miles from their store and must shop there for convenience sake. Every week i walk in there, the prices are hiked up, $25 at checkout more than last week at my last visit. Give us a break, stop the gouging. We must eat! We should have a Market Basket, not a Shaw's or two Dollar Generals in Hillsborough which literally stink. This is defeating the shoppers in Hillsborough because we live 25 miles from the other decent supermarkets. Shaw's is short on produce and meat on sale more times than not, also, and the goods do not look so good. Shaw's is a shame and should be held accountable for gouging its customers. It is unaffordable to continue to shop there. In addition, every week I must check my receipt because there is usually a price problem. More often than not, I must go to the refund counter. My honest review of this store is that you're better off driving the extra distance to a more reasonably priced store where the food is fresher and you are treated better. This being the only grocery store in the area has allowed them to offer subpar products and services, such as: Many regularly priced food items being sold a day before their expiration date. You need to look very closely to ensure your food will still be safe the next day. This has happened with milk, cheese, salad mixes, and meats. You have to be extra diligent on checking the expiration dates. All items have a significant markup on prices. Being the only grocery store in the area has allowed them the ability to increase prices dramatically to the point that, if doing a weekly shopping, you can expect a final bill of 1.5 -1.75 times the amount at either Hannafords or Market Basket. When comparing a receipt for the same items between the stores, this store cost roughly $50 more on the final amount of the receipt, so for perspective - a full tank of gas. You can expect to be required to bag your own groceries as they have not hired sufficient staff to run the front of their stores. I'm sure this is deliberate decision in order to encourage customers to use self checkout. When buying multiple items this is extremely inconvenient and self check out is not designed to accommodate a large amount of items. While bagging my own groceries you can see the visible annoyance of the cashiers if you have not finished bagging your items and be ready to pay the moment they total the items (seconds after the last scanned items). I am sure the company would use the same excuse as many other large companies that there are not enough employees, which is a conscious decision in an effort to maximize profits. Both Hannafords and Market Basket have sufficient employees to ensure the checkout process is efficient and the customer is treated respectfully. I would guess that employee positions are either left vacant or eliminated instead of having to increase wages to be in line with the overall job market. Regardless, this is extremely inconvenient. At the end of the day, you're better off driving further to go to another store. It's better for your wallet, you will get items that are able to be consumed longer, and you will be treated more respectfully. read more

Too expensive! When youre the only supermarket in town I suppose you get away with charging far more than what I think is acceptable. Prices haven't come down much since Covid either, but I suppose that is true everywhere. The store is always clean and the staff helpful and friendly, but the prices are just too high. read more

There are not a lot of grocery stores around to choose from, this is more expensive than others in other cities and states. We travel around the country, and we needed groceries, so we had to go here. If you have a Safeway card, you can use it here. I went there recently to get a few deli items. The young fellow behind the counter was covering up the fresh items for evening storage. I asked if I could get some patato salad. He said no. No one was there for closing. I said, OK. I went the the service desk and asked to see the manager. The young lady who was the manager was very nice and helpful. She said If the were still there, they could have and we have told the to wait on the customer. She went with me to the deli counter and got me the item that I wanted. I said thank you and said I appreciated her effort. Next time, I will go the other direction to the market in Warner, where the people who work there want to wait on you and take care of your purchase. This is the second time I have had trouble at Shaw's and I think it will be the last. read more

I would like to know where they got all the money to redo the store and how much it cost on renovations, the temperature of the store is like being in Alaska, that much cost a lot. This Shaw's has managed to look new for the last 15 or so years since they have come into existence. No one was more happy than me that they put that terrible terrible over priced grocery store out of business down the street. Directly acrossed from Sylvania sometimes the traffic around here is a little hairy. They have two red box locations one inside and one outside. Some how I always forget about the outside one. Unlike Market Basket and Price Chopper they don't block all the aisles to get in and out and I do appreciate that. Prices aren't the best, however, you will pay a premium price, as Shaws is one of the most expensive grocery store chains around and this one is no exception. read more

The only real grocery store in town. People often complain about the prices being astronomically high but I find them favorable in comparison to Hannafords, etc. Shaw's has a Mobile App that allows you to clip coupons right from your phone into your online account. Then at the register all you have to do is enter your phone number and all coupons are instantly applied. It doesn't get much more convenient than that! In the 5 months we have lived here I have only had one notable bad experience at the store and the manager called me immediately to apologize. read more

Oh how I wish I could say something nice about this store other than there price for milk and bread is OK. When I live in Taunton Ma. 16 years ago, the Shaw's there was Primo. I can't help but compare that store to this one. I find it ridiculous that the prices are soooo high considering the "climate" of Hillsboro. I used to shop there just because it was convenient, but have boycotted the place. Here's why: 1.) Produce and packaged goods are overpriced. Prices are too high. You can go to Hannafords or Market Basket or even Walmart and get more for your $$. 2.) Management plays games with merchandise. Adds will be near similar item from the same brands but have very little if any of the brand that is on dale available on the shelf where the add is placed. It's the same thing for the buy 1 get 1 in their freezer section. You have to be aware that they will put similar name brand items there and hardly, if any, of the sale item. 3.) Meat is another concern. They will advertise a lower price for a certain weight (family packaging) but will not have any there for purchase. They will however have smaller packages half that weight there to grab. The check put person when scanning meat for me one day did not give me the sale price of some beef that was on "sale" (even though I had over the amount of Lbs. required for the sale price. When I noticed that it rang up as the regular price, she said she couldn't give me the sale BECAUSE it was not in one package and the bar code had to be changed. I then left the check out line (don"t get angry reading this. It was super early in the morning with hardly anyone there) and went to the meat department, so they could put the 3 steaks in one package to get the "sale price". This made the kid scratch his head, because I don't think anyone ever requested that sort of thing there before. After waiting 5 minutes and him having to consult with the manager, I got the original single packages back with the understanding that "they should ring up with the sale price now". Note: I wouldn't have had to go through that trouble if they just had the product to grab and go near their ad. Who wants to got through that..... I am sure I am not the only one that has to watch their pennies when shopping, and I don't mind spending money to feed my family, however I hate the bait and switch tactic this store plays. I'm used to shopping at the Concord and Manchester Market Basket, but since the problems started we switched back to Shaws, where we used to shop until their prices skyrocketed. We decided to try the Shaws in Hillsborough yesterday. We found it to be a small store and the selection limited. Not only that but, as before, the prices were unreasonable. We will continue to shop at Hannaford in Goffstown until Market Basket irons out their problems. I'm done with Shaws and their high prices. read more

I wonder if your store does not hire overweight people. My granddtr applied for a job as cashier. She has prior experience. When she called back after the interview she was told she was not a fit. Yes she is overweight but very bright and personable When I was there today I noticed that all employees were rather on the thin side especially the younger ones(which my grandtr is). Their fresh produce is terrible. Every time lettuce or greens come home from there, they are rotten in the core. Their prices are higher than MARKET BASKET, even adding in mileage to Warner, Concord or Swanzey. The only thing I go in to buy anymore is a Sunday paper which isn't available anywhere else in town. read more
