I think I came here once before but couldn't tell you about the experience. This time around we had a mid winters Saturday family day at the Back 9 for some simulated golf then went next door to the restaurant/ bar section. The server was on top of everything in the Back 9 side and the golf simulators were very nicely done. Next door the food, including the Italian ciabatta and pizza, were phenomenal! You wouldn't think being a bar that they would have that great of food and experience but it was all fantastic. I was honestly impressed. A very popular Sylvania hot stop. Drinks are cold and menu has a nice variety of food options. We stopped in for a quick dinner. We were settled right away with drink order given. Our dinner choices were given with minimal wait. My wife enjoyed her pork chop dinner as I enjoy my fish dinner. They have a lively decor which at times can get loud. We visited this place last year and found the food great! People told us about this place and since we wanted to celebrate St. Paddy's Day we stopped by. Not a lot of Hibernian specialities but enough to make us happy. The chicken chunks every bar around Lake Erie serves are here. And other choices as you can see from the menu. We usually get Moscow Mules or margaritas. But when it's cold i like a nice coffee with a kick. Spanish coffee or something mellow. Not a fan of Irish Coffee because it's too sweet. read more

STRIKE FIRST!: The food at Shawn's is not bad. It's not the best bar food in town, nor is it the worst. Suffice it to say that I've never had a bad meal here. And I will say that the burger is actually great; it tastes flame broiled...it tastes like you made it yourself on your own charcoal grill, on a cool autumn evening, in your own back yard. Also, Shawn's chicken chunks are some of the best in town: the ratio of chicken to breading is relatively high, and the dipping sauces are well made. The drinks are cheap and strong. The beer selection is never bad. In fact, it's usually good. The salads and the pizza? Again, not bad... especially the thin crust pizza. STRIKE HARD!: This isn't always the case, but the number one reason why customers get treated poorly by the waitstaff, is because they, the patrons, were rude or condescending to the waiter/waitress/bartender. For me, the service has always been prompt and friendly. I will admit, however, that one particular bartender (and you know who you, Miss Sour Britches) is usually bitchy. NO MERCY!: I checked out the input from the one-star reviews. Predictable stuff. Also predictable is that more than half of all of their reviews are 1 star. Some people are just hard to please. Also interesting is that many of their 5 star reviews were for places that have subsequently gone out of business (long before the virus came to town). Shawn's gets a lot of my business because it's predictable (extra star) and it's on my way home. It's never bad, and it's usually good. Cobra Kai never dies! Made the mistake of stopping in for lunch on Saturday while the College games were on. Not much of an Ohio State fan, and now even less of one. By the time our meal arrived, my son and I were pretty much ready to leave. And after seeing a few other people leave, we asked for take out boxes. Some of the people rooting for OS were obnoxious, loud, generally rude and quite disgusting. Even the waitress was "put off". I blame the management for the lack of control of their patrons. It's just OK, we both had the fish and chips. The fish was dry and over cooked, french fries were soggy. We both also had side salads, just your typical bag lettuce with some toppings nothing remarkable. We Co had some chicken chunks and they were pretty good they were a little on the dry side also and tiny pieces. We love Shawn's! It's a Neighborhood Pub/Grill that has great food, great service and good specials! We usually come on Wednesday's for $1.00 tacos and on Sunday's for $3.00 off large two topping pizzas and $7.50 per pitcher of beer! They also serve free popcorn to each table while your waiting for your food! Outside of tacos and pizza, try the ciabatta sandwiches! They are amazing!! If you like sitting at the bar, good luck finding a seat. Shawn's has a lot of regulars and most of them have assigned seats. Lol. Just get here early. We highly recommend this place! Recently visited Shawns with another couple . We were extremely disappointed in the service. After being seated no one asked anything after 15 minutes. Other tables around us arrived & were immediately attended to. My husband asked hostess who than went to talk to two waitresses hanging around the popcorn machine. Still no one came over. After another 10 minutes my husband stopped a waitress & asked who our server was which she replied " one of the two of us" but did nothing. At first, I was just happy that someone finally bought the other vacant end of Family Video! It's been empty for about 15 years, but then, enter Shawn's Irish Tavern. My friends took me here for the first time in the summer of 2012. It's a sports bar and it's very spacious inside, with plenty of televisions all around. I have to say I'm really impressed with this place. There is a limited menu, but I've only typically gone for drinks, which have been awesome. I did happen to order the Reuben Balls one time, and they just might be the most unique, most creative appetizer I've seen. If I recall, you get 6 of them in an order, and they're all easily 2 or 3 bites each. They're served with a cup of Thousand Island dressing, and they really closely simulate the taste of reuben sandwich. They're very delicious and I've ordered them every time since. Prices for food and drinks are very fair. I've never walked away disappointed! read more

First time visiting, highly disappointed in the food. I only ordered a couple appetizers on my lunch break. The mushrooms were described as battered in their "secret breaded recipe", I assumed they were hand battered but they tasted as if they were like any other frozen mushroom. The breading was very burnt but the mushrooms were only room temperature. I also ordered the cod sticks, fried food is fried food, kind of hard to mess up, the cod sticks were more burnt than the mushrooms. I was also disappointed to find out that they don't have to-go cups for soda pop. I wanted to take something back to my office without making an additional stop. All 5 times I've had crap service, but 3/5 of them I have had the same server who had given us HORRIBLE service. Caitlin's service is beyond embarrassing. Please re-train her or teach her to not be petty of others that come in that are not her regulars. I love little pubs for lunch. I like bar food. I like sitting by myself and reading while I eat. Shawn's looks like that place. The decor is perfect, green booths paired with deep wood. The waitstaff is even friendly. If only the food lived up to that. Previous reviews had recommended their Buffalo wings. I got Buffalo wings as an appetizer. The wings were 40% breading. While decently crispy, the breading overwhelmed the taste-- especially since there was very little sauce. The sauce seemed to taste fine when I ate the two wings on the bottom, but those on the top had very little. Additionally, the Bleu cheese dressing I got on the side was very sweet, not the taste I look for. Plus no carrots or celery. I ordered a burger for my main course. The burger was nearly tasteless. I can't explain it, but there was just nothing happening there. It wasn't bad, just nothing. That matched the steak fries, which were also tasteless. It's okay to undersalt-- there are health conscious people and I can add salt--but there was no rich starchiness, no oily crispiness, nothing. And some fries were undercooked. In the end, I had a bland, filling, reasonably-priced lunch, in a nice bar, served by nice people. Thoroughly underwhelming. read more

Shawn's is indeed a local hang out and favorite. The table service is good and some items at definitively better than others. Very pleasantly surprised by the pizza considering it is a premade crust. Toppings were excellent and made it exactly as ordered even though I am a little overly particular about my pizza. Other items are purchased I'm just reheated from GFS.
