We're in this park weekly and have sampled everything is has to offer except for the basketball courts. :) It's a great place to spend a few hours. I'm happy to see that the dumpster that was located at the park has been replaced by regular trashcans. The dumpster was really contributing to the litter in the park (in my opinion) and now that trashcans are on site and emptied regularly, people from the neighborhood can't dump their regular trash here. That's my only complaint and it's great improved over the past month or so. A must-visit park in the South District of Iowa City!

Plus it is surrounded by cornfields so it feels very Iowa. This park also leases community garden plots every year for very affordable rates. If you live in an apartment or a rental and want to grow your own food but can't, then this is the place for you. 10x50 plots are $25 and slightly smaller plots are $15. One of my girlfriends did this and said the plots were well prepared. The park also has ample parking lot at the end of Taylor street so you don't have to fight for street parking. Final bonus, it's a Pokestop and has benches so you can attach a lure, sit and enjoy the afternoon.

The beach area was spacious--lots of room to spread out on the sand. The beach also has a couple of good shady spots, which is helpful on a hot day. However, we ended up heading over to the Lake MacBride beach because the Sugar Bottom area was a little less lively. Could have just been the day, but we were looking for somewhere more high energy on a summer weekend afternoon. They also don't have the boat rental options that MacBride beach has. If you do like quiet spaces then this would be the place! It also seems great if you have kids (which we don't) because there is just more space to run around. Just be prepared to bring all of your own entertainment.

Boat dock available, and honors system firewood available in the evening. We did reservations through Recreation.gov and that made check in super easy! We brought our 2 Yorkies, and about 1/3 or more of the campers also brought dogs. Lots of trees, but also well mowed green spaces. This is now on our top 10 for Iowa campgrounds! Several spots right next to the bathroom / shower house, and great areas for larger camping groups. Would like to see a couple more updates to the shower facility. The water temp was fully adjustable-a knob rather than a button type, so you could have water the full duration of your shower. The water pressure was great, temperature great, but tile could use some updating. That may be in the works because the lighting was motion sensor and LED. There was also a ceiling fan which helped discourage bugs in the bathhouse!

This was my second visit to the walking path. I was reintroduced to Mr Dragonfly, so named by my little friend Micah. We followed the one path to a dead end. From that point, we looked across the river and noticed all the interesting houses along Rocky Shore Road. The best part of the stroll was our discovery of the golf disc course. For my friend and his son, this was a treat to watch folks launch their discs to the target! Is it a hidden gem in Coraville/IC or have I missed out on this activity last spring, summer and fall. Then again, winter hasn't deterred the locals.

27 Holes and the Home to the 1980(something) Disc Golf World Championship... First 9 play long with…read morewater in play and very challenging start. Second 9 play into heavy woods that are very well kept and a good accuracy is required, mostly sand under your feet but Concrete pads in place even way back in the woods. (bug spray needed) Third 9 seems like a after thought even though I still enjoy to shoot it. It is open and long with mature trees but no hazard besides Bike Path. 10pts for a head shot... This course is very well kept, great baskets, pads and markers on every hole. Pick up your trash and that is payment enough. Play Exchange you will be sorry if you didn't stop...

Fun disc golf course that is kept very clean…read more 18 holes/baskets that has a lot of variety. Some are in wide open spaces while others are in the woods. Great exercise! Each hole has a waste basket so you can throw trash easily. Beginners can play in this course, minus some holes. A great walk too.

First time here and first to review. Mount Trashmore is a city park built over a closed landfill…read morethat offers nice views of Cedar Rapids, IA. You first park in the lot and sign in on a computer waiving liability. There are 4 trails. 3 walking and 1 mountain biking trail. I was brave and walked zig zag uphill on Stumptown Trail. It's 5000 feet and 1 mile uphill. I stopped at scenic overlook to take some pictures and walked a little more to grassy mound or the top. I took the overlook trail down which was 3400 feet or 5/8 mile. This was a wide gravel road. The Stumptown trail was also gravel. Some were jogging, I just walked as I didn't want to fall. My husband did the trail 948 which was a 1/8 mile ADA accessible loop trail. On the way down the overlook trail there were some benches and signs about methane gas, and compost center. The landfill was cleaned up and tall grass is growing everywhere. According to my map brochure the 60 acre landfill was closed in 2013 and it took 25,000 dump truck loads of dirt to cap. You can bring your dog on a leash. Who would have thought walking on an old landfill would be so cool. The place that you sign on has modern flushable bathrooms.
