We came in needing help because the generator on our boat was not starting. Mike delayed showing up…read moretwo days because of light rain as he was afraid of slipping on the docks. Great, two extra nights we have to pay for. Then was on the boat all of 15 minutes diagnosing a bad starter switch, a part he would need to order. Two days later his assistant came to install the switch, but in doing so realized the wire behind the switch had wiggled loose and was actually the issue. Still installed the new switch, but the new bolts did not line up right, so my husband had to grind down a part to make it all fit. The assistant was on our boat maybe 30 minutes. We were invoiced for 3.5 hours which came to $700, called and were told the hours included getting to the shop, gathering supplies, driving to the boat, walking to the boat AND the shop is only .3 of a mile from the marina and the marina parking lot was only 1000 yards from our boat. On top of gouging us on hours, he also tried to diagnose things wrong on our main engine, one part we had just had done by a yard we trust six months ago. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY SERVICE ON YOUR BOAT!! Two other boats in harbor with us had him do work on their boats, ended up with things being worse than when they came in. I feel we got off light with this person as at least nothing else got broken or worse. We only got gouged on hours.

If you ask anyone at the Georgetown landing marina they will confirm my experience that you won't find a more dishonest and incompetent mechanic. I caught him stealing hours and charging me for services and parts that were not provided. He stated he was working on my boat when in fact my cameras and his worker said otherwise. When I informed him I had cameras he changed the story to say that he was picking up parts at 3am from the post office. He installed the wrong gaskets on all four of the turbos which resulted in 5+ gallons of oil in my bilge. He moved the boat from the marina without checking the engines for leaks after a major service and the engine leaked a few gallons of oil and coolant. Additionally, he claimed that his subcontractors performed certain work that they denied performing and he refused to provide adequate documentation or support. After spending a significant amount of money the engines were still not properly functioning. If you get stuck in Georgetown SC or on Long Island NY where Mike operates his business do yourself a favor and find another mechanic.

In early June 2025, I hired Shane and SS Marine & RV Service for a pre-purchase inspection and received a very clean bill of health. It was on blocks so I also needed to buy a trailer. I worked with Shane and paid for a trailer and went ahead and bought 2 power poles, a new fuse box, 2 new batteries, a 9-inch chartplotter, 48" guide rails, and a full boat cleaning and detailing. After it sat in the previous owners driveway another month, It was finally moved.  And that is when things came off the rails. * The new trailers were "delayed"... It's mid-May 2026 and I've yet to see a trailer, although we've allegedly gone through 4 different options he claimed to have secured for me. * The power poles supplier shipped the wrong poles...then Shane thought the poles wouldn't hold the boat so a different pair was to be provided...I've yet to see my 2 power poles. * I've yet to see the new fuse box. * As for the 48" Guide rails for the trailer.  Have not seen the trailer OR these since there IS no trailer.  * I've yet to see the new chartplotter/electronics. * I traded Shane a new depth finder for a Bluetooth radio to be integrated into the 9" screen.  I've yet to see that. * I've seen zero proof that any work has been performed on my boat.  I've asked numerous times for pictures and videos but he finds ways to avoid sending them. * I drove 3.5 hours to pick up the boat just for him to tell me he noticed a gas tank leak. He said he would replace it but I've seen no proof that has been done. * On a separate occasion, I drove 3.5 hours again to be told my motor won't start...no Compression.  Worked out a deal to trade my motor for a repower.  He sent pictures to confirm my motor had been removed but no new motor has been confirmed back on the boat.  "I don't typically send pictures to customers!" * Shane has missed 15 confirmed Dates of Delivery, with one being where he just never showed up.  He claimed he told his secretary to call...  And these are dates HE set.  Just recently I got the, "I promise on my mother's grave we're sticking to this date!"  Yes...  we missed it. * The endless list of excuses range from his suppliers missing deadlines or not delivering the items I bought, more issues he's found but can't prove he's repaired them, his employees not returning from vacation, one employee allegedly getting held up, employees having family emergencies, Shane having family emergencies, car accidents, shooting scenes in the Netflix series "Outerbanks" (no I'm not making that up), and even his employees not receiving phone calls or texts so he could verify what work is being done. * He will tell me how much money HE is investing in my project to make it right, but 11-months in, there is zero progress other than he's proven hes removed my original motor.  And he will remind you that you are not his only customer as many times as you ask for updates. * Including my boat and the missing trade-in value of the motor he has removed, he is sitting on  $15,000 of my property and services not provided. And, we have the receipts he peovided. I've paid Shave via wire transfer across state lines over $7,500 and after 11-months, I have nothing to show, and cant even get to my boat since he keeps it behind his locked gates at storage yards. Shane says all the right things but proves none of the things he says.  If he tells you he will call you tomorrow, that means hes call you in 3-4 days, if calls at all. Do a free Google search and see what public information is out there.  Get to know Rusty Shane Shockley before you consider doing business with him and SS Marine & RV Service. This guy is the most unprofessional business person you will ever meet...this guy is a LIAR...I've…read morenever had anyone tell me over and over again that he was on his way out only to disappear so many times. he told me he would fix my jetski for $400 over the weekend..Within a couple of hours of working on it he started telling me that it was more like an $800 job but he would do it for 600. at first I resisted that but then when I realized he was never going to come back I told him I would give him the full amount if he just got it done in time for me when I returned. despite numerous attempts on my part 2 contact him with only an occasional text answer... he has failed to deliver on anything that he has promised. 6 weeks later he has only done about 5% of the job. he has begged me for money since 2 hours after he started. he gave me every kind of sob store in the world why he needed cash at midnight..he is either just a complete scam artists that tries to do a little bit off work and then collect money and leave, or he's just an overhead making promises that he cant fullfill..DO NOT USE THIS GUYS "SERVICE" I very seriously doubt that he has any sorts of Licensing or insurance. he does not even have company letterhead or invoices or business cards or signs on his truck. I personally just think that he has got some sort of personal problems ..but I don't want to make accusations. But I think if you take one look at him you're going to realize what's going on.

The docks are very well protected and don't suffer much from tide and current. Harborwalk is a hidden gem between the waterfront and the rows of restaurants and specialty shops along Front Street downtown.   The Harborwalk offers scenic views of Georgetown Harbor and is accessible behind the Town Clock, or through Francis Marion Park, Constitution Park, or Rainey Park, all along Front Street. It is a perfect location for a stroll along the waterfront or viewing a spectacular sunset. You can also go directly from the boardwalk into many of the restaurants, shops, and art galleries that are adjacent to it. You will probably want to walk around town and enjoy some of the historic homes as well as the intriguing live oak trees.
