I must join everyone else and give the highest ratings to this firm, especially my collaboration…read morewith Tai on tax preparation. He is detail oriented, thorough and provides very useful information on the tax code and the actions we take together. I have worked with him for a number of years and he makes paying your taxes as pleasant as they can be, under the circumstances. lol The prices are also very affordable !

I find it disappointing when a business responds to a negative review primarily by defending its…read moreactions rather than taking the opportunity to understand the customer's concerns and acknowledge where its communication could have been better. Since the owner has now responded to my review, I would like to address each of her three points. 1. Roth conversion calculations We were never told that calculating the Roth conversions would involve an additional charge. Had we known that, we may have reconsidered having the calculations performed. More importantly, regardless of whether there was a charge, the calculations provided to us by Tai were incorrect. He sent the calculations to us twice, and both versions were wrong. These calculations involved our actual tax liability and potential Roth conversion decisions. Providing incorrect tax calculations is a serious concern because a client could reasonably rely on that information and potentially make financial decisions based on it, which could result in an unexpected tax liability or penalties. The issue was therefore not simply whether the calculations were included in our client copy. The issue was that the calculations we were given were incorrect. 2. Mortgage interest The owner's response says that our mortgage interest statement was included in our return and that the information was used in determining whether itemizing deductions or taking the standard deduction was more beneficial. That was never clearly communicated to us by Tai. He did not explain that the mortgage interest information from the prior year was being used in that way, nor did he explain how changes in our mortgage-related expenses could affect that calculation. Mortgage-related expenses can change from year to year. For example, changes resulting from a loan modification or restructuring, property taxes, insurance, or other changes affecting our mortgage could potentially affect the itemized deduction calculation. As clients, we should have been given a clear explanation of how that information was being handled rather than having to infer it afterward. 3. Filing date and payment date This is the issue that concerned me the most. My complaint was never about whether Smart Tax & Accounting has a procedure requiring final client authorization before filing. I understand that authorization is necessary. The issue was that authorization to file and confirmation of when the return would actually be filed are two different things. Tai asked us to authorize the return, but he never confirmed with us when he would actually file it. He did not ask us what filing date we preferred or confirm the date on which the return would be submitted. That distinction matters. A client may need a refund by a particular date, or conversely, may need to make sure a tax payment is withdrawn on a particular date. Simply providing a payment date somewhere in the documents is not the same as clearly communicating and confirming when the return will actually be filed. For me, this was a communication issue, not an issue with Smart Tax's general authorization protocol. Overall, I am disappointed that the owner's response does not appear to address the actual concerns described in my original review. Instead, several of the points seem to explain why Smart Tax's procedures were technically followed without addressing whether those procedures and communications were clear and accurate from the client's perspective. I am leaving my original review in place because it reflects my actual experience with Smart Tax and the problems we encountered. I believe prospective clients should have the opportunity to hear both sides of the experience. If the owner would genuinely like to discuss what happened and review the facts of our particular situation, I am open to continuing the conversation through Yelp.

She was 12 minutes late. She walked into the lobby, went to her computer with no acknowledgment of her lateness nor did she even say hello. She told me to come into her office with zero apology and said what can I do for you. I opened my laptop to pull up my notes. In less what a 1 minute passing after starting to reply to her, she told me she needed to take care of something urgent and left the office and locked the door behind her. Again, no apology. I'm not trusting my taxes with someone who can't manage an apology or her own time. I left and told the woman sitting in the front how rude and disrespectful it was that she kept me waiting with no apology and then promptly left as soon as I sat down - again with no apology. *****UPDATE TO MY REVIEW 1 DAY AFTER THE OWNER'S RESPONSE ***** Screenshots attached of: 1) your 12-1 p.m. appointment invitation, 2) my call to your office 3) your email telling me it's "not right to hurt a business with your own issue." Mindy, I arrived at 12:01. Were you ready for me at noon? You didn't meet with me until approximately 12:12, then left immediately after we sat down. Claiming you didn't know when I would arrive does not explain walking away WHEN I WAS ALREADY SITTING IN YOUR OFFICE IN FRONT OF YOU. I emailed as a courtesy and also tried calling. Your voicemail was full and would not accept messages. My garage door problem made me 1 minute late. It did not cause you to keep me waiting or leave our appointment. Those were 100% your decisions - own it. Calling this "my own issue" shifts the blame instead of addressing your poor conduct. An honest review of my experience as a potential client is not unfairly hurting your business. You're an accountant asking clients to trust your judgment and attention to detail. Your public response asks for mutual courtesy. Yet your private email tells me I'm hurting your business with "my own issue." Neither explains why YOU chose to leave an appointment I showed up for and we had already started. Both reinforce why I wouldn't trust you.

They're straightforward, easy to talk to, and don't make things feel more complicated than they need to be. I had a few questions about deductions and filing changes, and everything was explained in a way that actually made sense without feeling rushed. Turnaround time was solid, and they were pretty responsive when I followed up. What I appreciated most was that it felt organized and personal at the same time; it feels like you're not just another file in a stack. Pricing was fair for the level of help I got, and I left feeling confident everything was done correctly. I'd definitely recommend them if you want a no-drama, reliable place for taxes or bookkeeping.

It felt complicated filing taxes by myself since I sold stocks so I had to hire a professional. I was concerned of paying a high fee so I contacted AT&A to help me out on my situation and Megan respond back to me via email. I made an appointment with her the next day and she was very detailed and I was not aware with the overtime bill (I am a type of person who works overtime weekly) that recently pass and it helped me paying less taxes than expected. My appointment took an hour and it was worth it when my concerned of paying only taxes for both federal and state, I ended up getting a refund for fed but ended up paying taxes with state but I am satisfied with the outcome they gave me. I would definitely come back here to file taxes again next year and I was 100% satisfied with the service they provided and the cost to file taxes was reasonable too. Thanks again Megan, Danny & AT&A. The drive from Riverside to file taxes in my complicated situation was worth it.
