Now we locals can tell them, you must be thinking of Kansas. We've got Flat Tide! Flat Tide brings their truck of stand up paddle boards (SUP) to Lake Overholser every morning. They provide very cool classes on Intro SUP, Eco Tours, Yoga, and SUP boot camp. I bet you didn't know that Overholser has a network of streams to the north of the lake. There is so much cool stuff to see. It's very cool to go bird watching on a paddle board. The SUP boards are very easy to maneuver. You don't have to get into the water unless you want to. And you may want to! I stuck my legs off the board and splashed myself because it was getting hot doing a work out on the board. Melissa, owner of the Shape Project, taught the boot camp work it class. It was definitely a challenge. Just a warning to those who get motion sickness, you may want to be careful. I was a little dizzy by the time we started doing squats on the boards. You can rent the boards for $15/hour or participate in a class. Families can share boards, which I thought was awesome. You can get a large board and put you and a younger child on the board with you. Or a dog! I think I might bring my dog next time and see how he likes it. Flat Tide also provides life vests that come in fanny packs. (You pull the cord to inflate the vest in an emergency)

Instead not only did they introduce me to everyone who worked there, they offered tips, instruction and even took me on a tour in the lake. Everyone there was extremely welcoming and friendly. Eric was another great guy who worked their and even gave me tips on how to improve my efficiency and speed when on the board. Not only are they great owners, but they are all genuine friends. If you have not paddle boarded before or just want to have a great time, I highly recommend FLAT TIDE! Also the SUP Yoga class taught by Kerry was FANTASTIC! I heavily researched the Riversport site for my daughter's birthday, as we wanted to take a group to the Overholser location. Side note, we heard there are several activities kids can't do at the main downtown location. First off, the website isn't clear on what activities are where, as Riversport claims three locations: Downtown, Hefner, and Overholser. There are also inconsistencies on how much passes run in what locations. When we called the one-and-only number (main downtown location) to ask about Overholser location details (again...claimed on their website), the employee told us they knew nothing about it. We called back a second time referencing their website, and they still claimed they didn't know an Overholser location existed. Internal operations red flag #1. No clear information on the website, no help via phone. We ended up driving some ten-year-olds to the Overholser Boathouse crossing our fingers we could do some activities mentioned on the website. After digging for an address, we drove a half an hour and pulled up to the Overholser boathouse. The area was super impressive, and the boathouse was open with a few people in and out. We were excited and optimistic about the afternoon. When I approached the desk, I asked for day passes, and they said they only offer activities on the weekends (it was a Tuesday). Again - that would have been helpful to learn through their website or the two phone calls. I gave my feedback to the poor staff members who acknowledged that the main boathouse won't communicate with them, will barely acknowledge their location (clear from our phone calls), and won't fix their AC in 100-degree heat. Internal operations red flag #2. I walked away with some disappointed kids and vowed I'd advocate for those unfortunate sweaty staff members who got the brunt of my frustration. Full circle, I'm not eager to try again with Riversport and because of the red flags--I wouldn't recommend planning anything with them unless you want some major headaches.

I'm currently working my way up to my Advanced certification, which requires courses such as: Night dives, Ship Wrecks, Navigation. My next course will be Search & Rescue. We have zero experience with the animals or work involved in this industry. Our family has member with quadriplegia (wheelchair bound) that desired to ride a horse for Christmas. Cottonwood Creek Ranch was not only up for the task, they were excited to share in the experience -- providing therapy thru horse riding. Despite the wicked cold (4 degree Fahrenheit with 30 mph winds and snow), the staff came out in full force with the sweetest horse to help our physically limited family member get on that horse and ride around the barn. The pictures speak volumes. I highly recommend for all novice horse enthusiasts. The professionalism and friendliness of this establishment is worth investigating.
