Sifu Cindy took time to speak with me and answered all my questions and concerns before we even did the trials. I was concerned that the classes were short but they were high energy and my daughter left the first class sweating and excited. Fast forward a year and a half later, and my daughter went from whining and saying I hate kung fu to saying she wishes she could go to kung fu every single day. I can see that her confidence has grown in leaps and bounds over the months. She has not only learned discipline and how to do the moves but also how to use her voice. Her movements have gotten stronger and she is eager to learn more and work harder. I could not ask for more patient or nicer instructors in Sifu Cindy, Sifu Alex, and all of the instructors there. They do not let the kids get away with misbehaving but they also do so in a fun and engaging way, which is not easy to do. Their experience and love for the children and the art shows. A well run and professional school that is structured and fun. The kids love it and we are so happy that we found Five Animals!

The community of students here has been very welcome among both newcomers, veterans, and returners. I gotta start with my teacher, Sifu Philip Wong. It's easy enough to see his credentials, as there are many and well-published. What I did want to capture is how he interacts with the class I'm in. We have a spectrum of students across different ages and martial arts experience levels and he makes sure to get the best out all of us. He finds ways to get us to push ourselves a little more each day and is very present to ensure our forms are correct. And he genuinely cares about his students as people, able to connect with anyone from a variety of backgrounds. The facilities and gear are high-quality and up-to-date. There's plenty of sparring gear for different purposes; whether it's hand-held for punches or kicks, or padded dummies, it's great to have something for every need. And my thanks the top-of-the-line floor mats the school uses can't be expressed enough. As I'm pushing 50, making sure that the mats can provide me traction when we warm up, stability when we strike, and cushion when we practice falls is very important to me. I can feel safe, not worry about injury, and focus on the exercises. And bonus points for the workout playlist that makes me feel like a kid again.

The entire welcome experience could not be more perfect. You book a free trial class easily online and show up to find your kids name on a big sign with a free t-shirt waiting. They are super supportive in the class and let the first-timers do a board breaking at the end so they get absolutely hooked from the jump. The joy in their faces after that board breaks and they feel so powerful is priceless! Arrive for your first real class their uniform is at the ready on the front desk. Seriously, so organized! We love the instructors. They break the kids into smaller groups so she's gotten to work with Shīfu Bender and Shīfu Fidler and Shīfu Lucas Dela Cruz who are all wonderful. They have an app that makes everything super easy. Including instructional videos kids can use to practice. When you arrive you just check your kiddo in on the ipad (they are located right next to the after class lollipops). The class itself is the perfect blend of skill-training and fun. They learn respect, discipline and hard work, then they get to play a fun game at the end like freeze tag to get all their energy out. They also earn sticker stripes leading up to the different color belts. My kiddo is highly motivated by this and always looks forward to the "earn" days. The support staff is super responsive and helpful with inquiries and questions. There are plenty of benches to sit and watch but it's in a great neighborhood so always fun to run out and grab a snack or bubbletea.

Reason for visit: Sprained ankle from 3 days prior. Ankle: swollen to the size of half a baseball then the swelling transferred to my foot. Treatment duration: - 3 days at home with ice and topical Chinese medicine - 2 days at Chau Shifu's Cost: $60 per session The Experience: Day 1- He looked at my foot briefly and proceeded to prep the large sheet of medicinal ointment right away, wrapped it around my ankle and the top and bottom of my foot. Day 2- He used the lamp and first treated my foot for about 20 minutes with heat therapy. The lamp slowly heats up to a burning temperature, my foot was turning red and I can barely stand the pain from the heat. I mentioned it to him, he simply said "don't worry about that" and went back to chatting with his friend until my treatment was over. Then he applied the cool sheet of ointment over my foot. THAT felt good. He told me there is no need to elevate the foot but I felt like it made a difference for me so I elevated it at night when I went to sleep. Results: His treatment definitely works with moderate results, considering it takes weeks for a sprained ankle to heal. The swelling subsided a bit on both my ankle and foot and bruising began to form under my skin. It's getting there. I am now continuing treatment at home with heat therapy with my lamp at home and topical medicine.

Now I am back at it after starting work and after playing a while, there gets to a point where you hit a wall and need some help. Well, Bryan and Jimmy were the perfect cure. A lot of times, people are taught to play strictly a certain way and are tough on you about you doing it exactly their way. With Bryan and Jimmy, they instead try to bring out your hidden potential with your style of play. I found that in my few times going to their clinics and taking a lesson or two, I have improved a lot. Granted you need to practice on your own to hone in their teachings, but the way they support your game with their clinics and your mentality brings you a long way. Everyone is different and they know that, which is why they want you to learn and have fun. I met Bryan and Jimmy after seeing them a few times on the court and decided to give it a shot. It was easily one of the best decisions and I highly recommend them for whatever level you are at. They know their tennis and have a lot of coaching experience. They make tennis fun for everyone!
