cool beens nstructor Chang is a senior student of Master Schauer . Chang was born in Taiwan and came to US in 1978. He has studied traditional Chinese martial arts from the Master for more than 25 years. Besides his own learning and practicing, also devoted many years in teaching of Chinese martial arts for various practitioners and organizations. He was the lead instructor of tai ji and other styles for the Chinese Association in San Luis Obispo, California, when he was studied in Cal Poly University and during his employment at the Diablo Canyon Power Plant. and also teaches kung fu in a number of Chinese schools in San Francisco Bay Area. Mr. chang accompanied the Master in 1990 and 1991 on trips to China, focusing visits to the birth places and of ba ji, chang quan, tang lang quan, Chen tai ji quan, and other martial arts systems.The trips to the birthplace of kung fu provided a very rewarding experience, and allowed him to gain an understanding of the evolution of the ancient martial arts, as well as their historical context and the impact of modern culture on them. Even after SiFu had spoken to me and accepted me as his disciple, I still had no interest in learning Wing Chun. I was only there out of respect for my dad. I was more interested in having fun with my friends than training hard in Kung Fu. So in my ignorance and youth, I began to excuse myself from training at the school. In the afternoons, I would sneak off and have fun with my friends while I told my father I was training at SiFu's school. This continued for some time. One day while at a movie instead of training, I discovered my bicycle was stolen as I came out of the theatre. This caused me to get home very late. My father became suspicious and questioned me. I tried to convince him that I had spent extra time training at the school, but he knew that class was over hours ago; and it should not have taken so long a time for me to get home. He did not believe my story and decided to call SiFu to find out the truth. SiFu explained that I had not been in class and that he hadn't seen me in weeks. My father was very angry and disappointed. He then granted SiFu full permission to do whatever was necessary to discipline me, and further my training in Wing Chun. The teacher of this school spreads dangerous and false ideas about the current pandemic. His social media posts and lectures and rants claim that no one has died of the virus and that it's all meant to control people. On top of that when some people brought their concerns to him directly because they themselves had relatives die from this disease, he laughed at them. His qualifications to teach self defense are dubious at best, especially since the antiquated sets and forms he teaches are devoid of pressure testing and sparring. He claims he can beat Jiujitsu fighters etc but if you watch any video of him moving , you'll see that he stands no chance against actual trained fighters. This is a great school, and Grandmaster Schauer is an amazing teacher. While you learn the forms associated with each style you learn (you can focus on a style you are interested in - including Wing Chun, Northern Shaolin and Hung Gar), he also teaches you the practical applications. He freely shares his vast knowledge of martial arts, and, because he takes the time to work individually with his students, each class ends up feeling like a private lesson. Another benefit is that there is an emphasis on stretching that I have not seen in other schools - it not only helps you move better, but it also makes you feel great.
